  1. Oh I know its been overheated. This wont affect the car if the hg are changed? any time its over heated for me i've pulled over and let her cool down.
  2. The rotor was scraping the dust shield. Got that bent back. next up the Master cylinder, then head gasket and we are good to go!
  3. Pulling the engine and putting it back in is relatively easy. I can leisurely pull an EJ engine in 1.5 hours. If I'm trying to show off probably 30 to 45 minutes if nothing strange crops up like a stuck lower bell-housing nut..... I don't like to sweat and throw tools around like a mad-mad though so I usually take my time and organize parts/tools as I go to maintain a clean work area, etc. GD Well you should drive on down here to Boise from Portland when you have a few days off and i'll time ya I think for sure its the hg now. I put a new radiator cap on and heated it up. there are loads of bubbles coming from the overflow container. I think i could borrow a hoist I have a lot of mechanically inclined friends with tools. My biggest issue is that my younger brother (17) with zero car working experience is the one who would have to do it.( I just sold him the car and I am moving to mexico) I know some people who could help him, but they have full time jobs and family's. I was thinking it might not be so wise for him to give it a go or it will be in pieces all over my parents garage for two years untill i'm back although he might opt to do it. If he opts to have it done, or if we do it, what other seals inside the motor should he have done at the same time? ( I searched the forum for a few hours and got distracted/couldn't find the ones needed for the 2.2 litre.) I did find that we need to get Subaru parts from the dealer.
  4. Well I changed the water pump, timing belt, both other belts (power steering, air conditioner?) thermostat, radiator hoses. I just need the seals and gaskets in the motor changed. Is the work hard? or just takes a lot of time? I read that the motor might need pulled? Is that worth the time?
  5. Should I get a OEM Radiator cap from the dealer? or just one from autozone? Do you know the cost on a hg change?
  6. How many miles on your 91? She has 168k on her, 48 of which i put on in the last three or four years. She sat at my friends house for maybe five years, they thought it wasn't drive-able since the brakes grinned, (new pads, 20$) the hood wouldn't latch (just needed a go though and lubed) and the car wouldn't start ( new fuel in the tank and a battery under the hood 60$) I had to do a CV half shaft on her too. All in all about 600 bucks for a 1991 legacy in 2007 with 120 miles on her. It was a deal. I actually sold it to my brother for twenty bucks and am helping him get her fixed before I leave for mexico for two years. It has been the best first car a kid could ask for. I will search the forum about the HG, thank you.
  7. No anytime its over heated i've pulled to the side of the road and let her sit. I'll get her to temp and check on the bubbles. If it is the hg how much does it cost to repair? or how hard is it to do myself?
  8. Thank you for all your help! I got it out and the new one installed. I had two other questions as well if you want to give me your three Cents on the matter. That would be great. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1034180#post1034180 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=124964 Thank you!
  9. My 91 Legacy is over heating. Its not leaking radiator fluid. The Anti-freeze is not in the oil either. But it is going somewhere. The car over heats when you drive and cools when you stop. The over flow also fills full of Anti-freeze. I changed the water pump, thermostat, and timing belt 700 miles ago. It started overheating maybe 100 miles ago. I read that I should change the radiator cap. and will do so tomorrow. Do I have a bad head gasket? Or is it something else i'm over looking?:-\
  10. I have a 1991 Legacy L and i'm having issues with the brakes. When I'm driving it sounds as if the pads are touching the disc, especially when I turn. It sounds as if its coming from the front passenger side, but i'm not 100% sure on which side. Also when you are stopping the brake pedal depresses to the floor, then when you let it up and push it again it's firm. I've put fresh brake pads on the front. The brake fluid is not low. And I've bled the front brakes. Any other ideas??
  11. Got the half axle off. Drilling out the Pin tomorrow. I hope it goes back in as easy as it came out.
  12. YES!!!! I have been working on this dang thing for 2 days straight and racking my brain over it. So pry it out? I have a drill press and a vice so it should be easy to knock out the pin, or just drill it out! This will be the first time having a automatic instead of a standard will pay off. So I will be prying/ pulling off. Then just hammer it back in? thank you for all your help.
  13. It is an automatic. So I can just pull on the half shaft its self? That will pull the male part its attached to out of the transmission along with the half shaft? Would you say this is easier then drilling? Drilling was what I was going to go with next.
  14. Yeah, I just thought of that and tried that, to no avail. a lot of the problem I think is the lack room to swing a hammer, its hard to get any force behind the swings. :-\ This is my first time being there, and I don't like it.
  15. I need help. I have a 1991 Subaru Legacy L that I am attempting to change the front passenger side CV Joint. I replace the driver side a few years ago with no problems. This side not so much. I was attempting the knock the spring pin out with a punch when it broke off inside. So now I have a quarter inch of spring pin sticking out one side and half an inch of the broken punch sticking out the other. I believe the punch that is broken off is wedged inside of the spring pin, due to it's incorrect side. I've already tried the following things. 1. using the right sized punch to punch the spring pin out ( from the side the spring pin is sticking out) 2. using vice grips to try and pull out either side. I have tried using liquid wrench to help the pin and punch along to no avail (no big surprise there) I have no clue what to do. I am all out of ideas and am about to pull my hair out. Any help at all would be fantastic.
