  1. I've heard of distributors just dying and some members carry a spare if they are on off-road trips. Also, many members remove the timing belt covers and leave them off permanently. So, if that might be your plan you can get them off without be overly cautious. I just saw your post and I this might help. Good luck.
  2. Glad you could use the parts and the FSM! All the best, Aaron
  3. I hope you figure out the problem. The guy who set you up with the motor would probably be a good help to you also. Also it would be SWEEEET to see some video or even photos of your mudboat!! Sounds awesome and a lot of fun!! Good luck with the fix and the ducks.
  4. Hey that's awesome! Is that a Harbor Freight item? .....lol cheers.
  5. Sorry to see your accident. That sucks but glad nobody was hurt. Good luck with the repairs. Cheers
  6. Here's a USMB link. Cheers. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/155707-selling-my-1970-datsun-240z/
  7. ....."You will get many varying opinions on this." Well said. I was told Valvoline 10W-40 and always genuine Subaru oil filters.
  8. After I replaced my wagons front axles with new aftermarket ones, I had the shaking violently and a lot of banging noise (but not the pulling to one side) after only about 500 miles. One of the new axles had failed and was coming apart. It was so noisy and violent I had to be towed home. In your case with your jack if you can lift one wheel at a time and spin, move it around, back and forth etc., I would think you would notice where the problem is. Sorry can't help anymore but good luck with your trouble and be safe. Cheers
  9. Are they like these? Cheers and good luck. http://simpletire.com/cooper-p205-60r13-39603-tires (Sorry I didn't notice the "out of stock".)
  10. Hey WELCOME, nice Brat, keep us posted on the project, and good luck!! Cheers, Aaron
  11. The female part gets stripped out and will just turn and turn. If your planning on keeping the car be gentle with the timing belt covers and take your time. They get torn up when the fasteners are overtightened. Many people take or get/ hack the covers off and leave them off. Good sets of covers can still be found (NOS) for good money or even from parts hoarders, like me, for alot less. Cheers and good luck! Aaron
  12. "Note that the axle only fits onto the diff stub one correct way. Think about where the spline is in relation to the center of pin hole. It is possible to slide the axle onto the diff stub incorrectly, thus misaligning the pin hole by a half spline. Does that make sense? " ........YES, thanks! I have the snap rings, heard about using heavy duty zip ties, and hose clamps have been suggested too. I would like to use hose clamps also but they aren't narrow enough for the groove. I think there's a bit of technique reguired to get the snap rings tight enough, grip, and fold over correctly of all in the same motion. But I am going to use them at first. "You can double up the rubber from the ring that always comes off the 30 year old boot". .................not exactly sure what you mean there. Thanks for the help everyone. Aaron
  13. Thanks Dinky, I have already bought the boots and snap rings from Subaru. I still need to get the grease. Once I get the axles off and the old boots off, I'll clean them and rotate them to see if there's are broken pieces. Then I'll grease them and reboot them after I get a snap ring tool. Or if there seems to be damage I will buy one or two new from Oriely's as another member recommended and go with that. Do you know the part number for the axle roll pins? The FSM says to ALWAYS use NEW roll pins.... Thanks for the input! Aaron
  14. Hey Tom (TheLoyale), what a thread you have there!! Stunning how much you have done and really great work!! With my wagon my worst rust issue is around the windshield and a spot behind each rear wheel, under the two side cargo compartments (each side has a golf ball sized hole). So my rust issues seem a lot less than what you started with. But, as far as everything else you have done WHICH IS AMAZING AND STELLAR....I don't think I am going to go to that extent with my wagon. I'm on the fence about just trying to sell it for a little cash and get a newer used 4X4 with better stock clearance and better tire choices. .......This is my dilemma now. On your thread I saw how much higher your wagon was and all the work you had to do including different wheels and tires. I'm thinking about "retreating" with the plans for the lifting because I'm not going to go all the way like you have. Now the Honda coils are on the way and I need to reconsider what to do. At this point I'd be happy just to get it functioning, as it was, with my wagon wheels but be able to load the rear and roof up with more gear than I was before. Your thoughts on this would be helpful. I will post this also on my thread. Thanks again and cheers. Aaron
  15. Sorry to here about the sabotage but it does make sense. Someone who is "green with envy" to do such a thing is just as bad as a thief. However, I'm glad you figured it out JesZek. Good luck with the drain and refill and like Tom said if there is a way I can help you, from a distance up here, please let me know. I would help where I can. Be well, Aaron
  16. Subscribed and overwhelmed.....lol. Amazing effort and job Tom!
  17. Aside from accumulated condensation over a long period of time, I can't add advice but encouragement.....yes! Good luck on this wierd problem. Quote, " No, the Subie was in a Closed Garage during those Downpours. Unlike my Wife's car who rest on the Street, my home only has a one car garage. ..........Hilarious!!!
  18. GREAT.....what a relief!! My front shocks and coils are old and tired also. So after the rear end is done, but not immediately, I need to do the fronts also. I figured I would follow your whole recipe Jeszek and use the XT shocks. Then once the front and rears are done including the lift block kit parts, I want to start planning on what wheels and tires. I like the way TheLoyale's Safariwagon wheels and tires look. Turbosubarubrat thanks for the parts link!!! That's awesome! Thanks for the help! Aaron
  19. For the axles are you talking about the REAR axles too? I looked on Rock Auto and ZERO axles were listed for 1985. The 4" does sound ideal and is where I would like the wagon to end up. Today I ordered the rear coils and shocks to do the rear end like JesZek did on his wagon. He said those coils cause a 2" lift and I would be needing a block to drop the differential that 2". So now, if I get a 4" lift kit will these coils and shocks not work with that? .......I could still cancel the order before they ship. I am trying not to buy any wrong parts and pieces. And my plan would be to get some larger wheels, to redrill, so then I would have a much better off road tire selection than with the 13s. Thanks again!!
  20. I am doing work on my wagon and think at least my passenger side rear axle will need rebuilding and rebooting or replacement. The inner boot, DOJ, is the one that tore open and has since lost the grease and is compromised. The driver side boot is cracking but not torn open and may just need cleaning, regreasing, and rebooting. I need to learn about this, get a few tools, grease, and joint parts from Subaru (if available) probably to do this. Some of you guys probably do this regularly (or have done it lots) with ease, and have the tools. Any of you have 1 or 2 rear axles you could ship to me that: 1) are in good solid condition that have already been rebooted or 2) you would rebuild, reboot, regrease, rehab, as needed. My goal here is to get two solid good straight axles with good boots on them so that they are good to go for many years to come without more hassles. I have Genuine Subaru boots and clamps that I would sent you first so you could put them on the axles, if or when needed. I would pay for your time, parts, and shipping. I thought there was someone in Colorado who did this but they stopped. Let me know what you think or If you know someone who does this or would help me out. It doesn't make sense for me to ship the axles back and forth but......maybe that's the way it has to be. I was hoping one of you guys may have some decent spare axles set aside. .....Maybe I should take them into town and have a local shop do this? What would you do....? Thanks ALL!!
  21. Thanks Turbosubarubrat!! If you had went with 8" would you have needed custom length axles? Do you need them with a 6" lift? Do you know of someone who is familiar with rebuiding and rebooting axles?
