Engine Pinging/Pre-Detination?
SoobDood05 replied to SoobDood05's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am going to borrow a timing light here soon, the only codes its thowing are 34 and 35, EGR solenoid, and Purge solenoid valve, would they cause the pinging?, And as Loyale 2.7 Turbo said i will flush the radiator also, ive been meaning too, it doesent overheat, just gets hot if i dont drive it like a grampa lol, or dont drive up hills, i just turn on the heater, no coolant in oil, dont burn a drop of oil either. i should probably check the knock sensor also. might use some premium gas after i run low too. i dont want to have to replace head gaskets, or the engine. any other input would be great, thanks all. -
Help with drivers rear tire/suspension?
SoobDood05 replied to SoobDood05's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well i dont have much problems with the front, its close to specifications, i just think all of it is the end result of extended wear on the suspension(shocks/struts) and bushings and other components etc. im sure if they were replaced, the problem would subside, i have just decided to live with it:rolleyes: theres not much to be done unless you can afford to replace stuff from what i have learned:slobber: sorry i cant be of more help! -
Hi all, i have had my 1990 loyale EA82 (Sohc i think?..) for about 3 months, at first it never got hot, but after a while the engine started to ping under load, even worse on hot days and it makes the engine get hot, about 3/4 on the gauge, i just kept driving it, cause i have to find work, now the engine is ticking louder and the pinging is a lil worse, i know its cause by Pre-detination in the combustion chamber right? Incorrect grade of fuel Etc, but its all stock. i would like to know how to fix the problem, if you know it would be greatly appreciated, as i cannot afford another car:-\, thanks!

i got a few questions here about my loyale. i have searched around and found a bit of info, but itd help if anyone else could chime in:) 1.My car makes a popping noise when i take off, from my drive way or stopping at a light or sign, it happens every day i drive it. 2.Ever since i fixed the high idol problem, the car idols from600-900 rpms but the lower the idol goes the engine sorta shakes the car, and the lifter tick is noticeably louder than normal, tick tick tick tick tick! just a couple small things that are annoying me. if you have any info please dont hesitate, thanks guys!

p/o broke the headlight lense and covered the gaping hole with epoxy and an autozone discount card:lol: Negative battery terminal was held on with electrical tape, left open container of old coolant to spill in the back of the car. if i wouldnt have bought the car, the guy was going to have it crushed!

Engine Parts for 84 GL-10 Automatic
SoobDood05 replied to JustinP.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry to hear about your subaru:eek: i must say that its not very easy to find an good working EA82 Turbo, engine unless you got the $ to rebuild wich most people agree would NOT be worth the time or money, as these engines have alot of cooling problems from what ive heard and are just all around a bad engine, you might consider swapping to a standard Ea82 Rebuilt (w/o turbo) cause they are more reliable, you could put in a EA81 but these are carburated and not as fast, but less complicated and easier to work on than Fuel injected models. Before you do any of that, if you have the money/time i would recomend an Ej22 engine swap, they are good engines, but im not familliar with them i know they have about 135 hp, as your turbo ea82 has about 110?, but You can find lots of information about all types of engines here and what there pros and cons are, just do a search,Hope this helps, and sorry if i wrote too much. I Found this, hope it helps. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/engine-oil-analysis/ Fuel % This is the amount of raw fuel content in your oil sample given as a percentage of total volume. Fuel dilution is common from cold starts with lots of idling (engine ECUs typically run rich on a cold idle) and short trips. This causes raw fuel to work past the piston rings and into your crankcase, which dilutes your oil and acts as a solvent, partially washing away the critical oil film and increasing wear between parts. This is why used motor oil, especially on older carbureted vehicles, sometimes smells strongly of gasoline.

The shop wouldnt touch my loyale, the rear inner part of the tire is toe'd in, wearing bad and he said there was nothing he could do, if you had rolled it make sure you didnt damage your frame or twist it cause if im correct these cars do not have chassis and can be bent and twisted easily with a rollover, but, like he said, check your bushings, mine look old an worn, but maybe the adapters have some play in this, bad shocks possibly? but honestly no one can tell me why mine was like that, but thats just my 02. cents, good luck!

Well i do know that the ea82 turbos have alot more problems than without turbo, if you do a search you can look up why they are a bad engine on here and find a sufficient amount of info, i have never owned a ea81, but my 90 loyale is a ea82 gets good gas mileage and gets anywhere i need to go, ea81's are a lil bit easier to work on from what ive heard, but the descision is up to you, and welcome to USMB!

Help with drivers rear tire/suspension?
SoobDood05 replied to SoobDood05's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, the alignment shop didnt do anything when i went in i said to do a 4 wheel alighnment and he didnt do it, put it on the machine and then said he didnt know why it was like that, he also said the tire was about 12 years old:eek: in other words the rear camber toe is off he said the suspensions on these cars are bad and it has to do with ride height in how it leans or whatever, so i just gotta go thru tires left and right and live with it. unless someone can be of more help:-\ -
Thankyou for the aadvice, i will be sure to have extended sockets etc. the fender and lining do need replacing, so the older bumper will actually bolt on like the one on there will? i get confused with body work. thats one of the things i have no experience with. But, i can get the parts from the local u pull yard fairly cheap if it can fit cause i need to replace the headlight assembly wich il be getting from u pull it also.

Help with drivers rear tire/suspension?
SoobDood05 replied to SoobDood05's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Okay i took the tire off today, (no tools to take off castle nut, but looked very tight) heres what i found everything looked okay besides some rubber bushings like kinda slanted in where they should be straight right? would bad bushings cause the tire to slant in like that? here is pics of the bad bushings, i have a very bad camera so sorry if u cant see them well this ones where the shock/strut bolts onto the arm or whatever its called(excuse my terminology) [/img] and this is the one where the arm bolts on i think. [/img] these both have old bushings that kinda slouch or slant in the slot heres a pic of the shock/strut (not familliar with that its called) itself it looks okay [/img] any help will be appreciated and as for the cuts, this tire is old it was even worn some when i got the car, ive driven it to the coast and back like this unknowingly so its has extensive on and offroad wear.:-\ -
