  1. You have two seperate subject there. 1) If you want to trade your Jeep for a Subaru. It needs to go into the marketplace. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12 You have to be logged in as a member to get there. 2) There are a few on the board that have put a Hi-Low into the Loyale. Don't know of a specific person in Washington. All put together there is not much to see, other than a console with High-low lever. If you can install a clutch, you can do this conversion. There is a new area of the board, for conversions, but as this is really just a tranny swap, we can talk about it here. We are talking about a non-turbo loyale correct. With a Turbo Loyale you have to swap the axles and the rear differential. You can you the same clutch assembly for both vehicle. Pull the transmission out, swap over the shift mechanism. (It would be best if you took it out of a car at the wrecking yard, so you would know how it goes back in. I then I install the dual range console so it looks cleaner. Install the new transmission and hook it all up. The hardest part is getting the 4WD light to come on the dash. You can just plug it in but then you don't have a light when you are in lo range. The same driveline can be used, so no problem there. At this point you can get rid of the pneumatic air system that is used for the push button 4WD, or just leave it in. Good Luck.

  3. Sorry the business major is coming out in me. The garage will increase the value of your property, maybe even past the cost of building. But the WRX STI will decrease in value, as it gets older. In addition the garage can serve many purposes, even if you get rid of your Impreza you can buy another project later and use the garage to build it. With the WRX STI, once you have bought it, it is a done deal. Your current vehicle has already depreciated, and it will probably hold at it current value for many years if properly taken care of. And in addition, you like the idea of having a one of a kind vehicle ( or at least in the US) compared to having and WRX that has already been tricked out at the factory. But I think you already know all this.
  4. Those are not NOS. New Old stock filters, they would have came in the Subaru boxes. he does not come out and say they are NOS, but implies it by saying they are OEM filter. I personally use Nippon for my shop but that is because they are good quality at a reasonable price. That would be the kind of box you would get if you were buying the filters from a wholesaler. If you are buying from a wholesaler you do not pay $14.95/for 4, plus $7.50 shipping. That is too much for those filters.
  5. #1 REPLACE spark plug #2 REPLACE wire #3 See if someone will let you borrow their coil pack to try and see if yours is bad. When my dad worked at the dealership they would usually "borrow" one off of another car, and if that fixed it, then they would tell the customer that is what it needed. #4 It also could be a mechanical misfire, if there is excessive carbon on the valve it can stick causing misfire. But when I have seen this the car looses power and then dies, because of the lifter being stuck open. #5 It is possible an injector, it would have to be mechanically failing (an electrical failure will kick on #3 injector code) Switching the injectors will rule that out, but I would try a coil pack first.
  6. The 85-86 RX, did not come from the factory with A/C unless it was an option, those had it installed at the dealership. Many Subarus with the A/C compressor on 85-86 were installed at the dealership, those were mounted on the outside and were usually LoneStar (Wynns) version. 87 on, Subaru mounted the Panasonic A/C on the outside, which in my option sucks. Later on, Subaru got wise and found the Hitachi to be the best A/C, so installed that on the Loyales, (on the inside of alternator) except some installed at the dealerships. (usually Wynns) Like Corky said, I do not believe I have seen a 87 RX or newer w/o A/C
  7. Cam & Crank Position sensor should come as a set from the dealership for about $63.00 Have you checked to see if you are getting fuel when it is tilted?
  8. I have had many vehicle come into my shop for pre-purchase inspections from the dealership and I have found major problems with them. I recommend a pre-purchase inspection on any used car people buy. Second I know that many people trade their Subarus in with bad HG, because they don't want to pay to have them fixed. They think it is a victimless crime. I discourage my customer from doing that, because I know many dealers won't catch it, and if they do, they wholesale it and it winds up on another lot. But a lot of times people are backwards in the vehicle and the only choice they have is to trade it in, or fix a car they already owe too much on.
  9. I am on my third one of those, they are nice to drive, my current one is an automatic, which sucks. BTW: The Wagon are Turbo Touring Wagons, the Sedans are called Sport Sedans, or SS.
  10. I am also a proud owner of a 2000 Subaru Legacy GT. Mine is a sedan. We have about 56k miles on it. We purchased it with 50k. Mine things on mine are that I have an exhaust sheild rattle, wind leak at driver window about 60mph and I think In need new rear shocks. I also have a clutch chatter sometimes, but I think it was from the previous owners driving habits. Usually clutch last past 100k. But my father and I own a Subaru Repair shop, and many of our customer have newer Legacys and we are getting more and more of these vehicles in as they go out of warrantee, and people decide the dealership is too expensive. The first question is that additive, yes it is suppose to prevent or stop seepage ( external leaks) from the headgasket and waterpump, and hose, etc. it is different than the 2.5 DOHC, those leaked internally allowing CO to get into the cooling sytem. I have seen very few that had to have headgasket replaced and that was before the additive was out. We have never done one at our shop but my father did a few at the previous shop he worked at. We would like all parts to last out to 200k but the fact of the matter is I think that expecting headgasket to last out to 200k in all vehicle is unrealistic.
  11. Did you trade the OB in? I would have made an offer on it. Might ask what the cash price of the Baja would be without the trade in. I bet you they are not giving you much for it, if they know it is bad. Looking for a vehicle I can fix up for my Mother in law. Thanks Richie
  12. I do not think there is a relay just for the blower fan, but there is a relay for the whole system. It is located by the headlight relays on the driver's side. You need to pull the lower kick panel off. And above the fuse box, right where the dash ends on the left side is 3 or 4 bullet relays, you can switch them around and see if the fan starts to work. If that is the problem, I would head down to Pick a Part in Turner or U-Pull-it in S. Salem and pick up a few of those. There is also a fuse for that system, but hopefully you have already checked that. BTW: I am in Portland. Can help you with used parts if you need them.
  13. Someone with as many BRATs as me!!! At least mine are better colored. I kind of like the color match grille on the maroon one, but defiantely not the bumpers.
  14. I believe the 82 is a better vehicle to lift. The reason I like the 82-87 is that the bed is 4 foot wide and I can fit a piece of plywood in the back. Not really a big deal if you have a full size truck, but if this is going to be your only "truck" then it something to consider.
  15. Very Cool. I don't think that the flight path will be that bad. Watch out for the jetfighters, every once in a while, they will sneak up on you, and scare the bagezes out of you. You are not that far from my shop, stop by sometime, we are in Tuesday through Saturday. I don't think that it is an area 51 one thing, though Subarus do mysteriously just show up!!!!
  16. Glad you had fun!!! Its made for the mud, just remember to keep the rubber side down.
  17. You said you have gone through 2 headers being welded? Make sure that the exhaust mount on the transmission is not broken. Let us know how that new exhaust system works, looks very sweet!! And make sure that they mount it to the tranny in some way or it will flex and cause problems down the line.
  18. No worse than the 85-86 EA82T, with heads cracking at 60k miles!!! People are complaining about headgasket failure at 100K-150k miles.
  19. Go to Wentworth.com and get the internet pricing. That should help. If that doesn't work I can put you in contact with my Autobroker, and see what he can do for you. Last resort is get one out of Idaho, and drive up and get it. Or better yet, I'll go get it for you:brow: . richierich Superior Import Repair, Inc 503-288-8634
  20. A customer of mine moved to Syracuse,NY. Looking for a mechanic in Syracuse NY for a Outback that is throwing tranny codes. Thanks Richie

  22. The valve are sticking in the heads. I too had a green 92 and when we bought it, anytime we would drive it up 26 to Beaverton it would loose power and die. At the time, all I did was change the oil ever 2000 mile and use Mystery Marvel Oil Additive, took about 6 months but finally the problem slowly went away. We have had a few customer with this problem and we have done top end cleanings. Might also try some additive to the gas system, some of those claim to clean deposits on valves. If you have any more questions, feel free to give me a call at 503-288-8634 Richie SIR, Inc
  23. I have a Subaru Repair shop in Portland OR. We do about 1) 2.5 DOHC a month. My prices range from $1150-1700. The one for $1700, was the whole enchilada, timingbelt, waterpump, front crank seal, cam seals, rear crank seal, oil pan, spark plugs, wires, clutch kit and radiator. I always suggest replacing the radiator. It has over 100k miles on it and it could be partially plugged, in addition it has had oil and HC in it.
  24. Yes, but Audi and BMWS, start at 30k, so that is where Subaru wants to be in 5 years? If it is, it is going to loose all the customer that now buy them at $18,000-$23,000. And I don't really think that many BMW owners want to give up the 'prestige' of owning a BMW to owning a Subaru. Subaru advertising was "inexpensive" and built to stay that way". So now the want to say " expensive and worth it" it is a hard sell, in my opinion. Subaru has always been behind the times, they are just now trying to make a 7 passenger SUV, they could have been the first to come out with a AWD MiniVan that was worth having. Instead Honda and other beat them to the punch. Subaru doesn't even sell a 2door base model. There lowest price vehicle is 18k, while Hondas is 12Kish. I can't afford a new Subaru. I had to buy mine 4 years old, so if I did have brand loyalty, I would probably be driving around in a Honda right now. And Subaru did not listen to what the customer wanted when the built the Baja, so no wonder it is not selling right. Not big enough box, not a real 4WD and no push through for big items like a 2x4.
