  1. I am sincerely sorry about the damage to your house and your fence. I can not imagine how much frustration there must be to be in living through a hurricane. Does make me feel fortuate to live in the PNW, and not in the path of a hurricane, and not in Iraqi. And it does suck that after all that the fan blade ran into radiator and put a hole in it. The facts are the facts, you left the parking lot, and you have no proof that it happened there, you were out driving in what I would consider hazardous conditions. And unfortuately, people do have to eat Vickaroo, even if it is Wendy's or other fast food. Some people probably did not have electricity or water, and eating out might be the only choice.
  2. I am sorry, but people are dying and losing their homes, because of the hurricanes and you have the nerve to complain about a puddle that your drove through, of your own free will, and ruined the car? So you could get "freakin" (replace word here) FAST FOOD? I think you should sue mother-nature. We should take that witch (replace word here) down.
  3. Yeah, you haven't even seen your next BRAT project. It is sitting in my back yard. I totally forgot to tell you about it. If you get this before tomorrow, i am going to be gone from 11-1 picking up my new OB. But my dad will be there to get you, your parts. Richie
  4. Looks like something out of the A-team. Very neat-o! "I love it when a plan comes together"
  5. Baja, you have a tranny out of a BRAT or other 81 vehicle. I parted out a 81 BRAT about 5 years ago, I will have to go look at the tranny but I thought for sure that it was top mount starter.
  6. I am currently parting out a 84 Turbo Wagon. I just took the dash and the analog dash out. I think that should be everything you need to convert your vehicle over. I have a 84 Turbo coupe parts car( digital car) , if you like I can see if the plugs coming out of the fire wall, will hook into this wiring harness. I was a good boy, and did not cut any wires when I remove the dash assembly, though I was tempted. The radio portion of the dash wires have been cut previously. BUT because it was an anolog dash car, it did not have power windows, so you will have to run those seperately. Also have to find wiring for the cruise, though that may be related to the ignition system, so you might be ok.
  7. In 81 they had the 1800 BRAT engine with the starter on top, and the dual range tranny. Probably the same transmission as the 1981 BRAT. I could see how they could have just put them in a year earlier. I think they take the same clutch assembly as the 1600 but don't quote me on that.
  8. I would be interested in one, if it was high quality. I think it would look slick on the convertible.
  9. What Sea#3 Said. If you let it go for too long you won't damage the motor, but you will colapse the lifter(s) and then you will probably have to buy new ones or install good used ones. If you install new ones, it will take a day or two to pump up.
  10. This is for Brus Brother. I had the same question since I own a auto repair shop. No you do not have to have the dealership reinstall the additive every time you change the coolant. The first time the put it in the computer, and put the sticker on. Everytime after that you, have to added the additive whenever you change the coolant and keep a record of it. For example, customer comes in with 45k miles (already has had 30k service) I tell them about the recall. They go to the dealership (against their will, "I though I brought my car to you guys so we would never have to see the dealer again") tdealer install the additive. At 60k when the service is due. We flush the cooling system and add the additive, making sure that it is noted on their invoice. Extended headgasket warrantee still intact.
  11. I am betting it is Muddy by Holloween. Anyone going to take that bet? Nice looking Hatch. Eric.
  12. You guys are all wrong. I told him that we respected him, it is all my fault.
  13. So everyone is planning to be there about 11 on Friday? I have a few chores in the morning but should be able to leave by 10-10:30 and get up there to help.
  14. The kid that owned it put a lot of money in it, and let it mechanically get beat down, it is now owned by a repair shop in Vancouver WA called NW Import Specialists, the owner is a ex-Subaru service writer. I know there has been some work done to it, but not exactly what. Body is not perfect but nicer than a lot of them I have seen. If anyone wants more info, you can email me. richslaw@hotmail.com
  15. Rare means things to different people. Anytime you put something out there is rare, you are going to have people disagree unless there are only 5 of them in the world. I used to consider my 84 Turbo Coupes to be rare, until everyone on the board bought them. Now I consider only the turbo BRATs to be rare. (But we still see a few of those in the wrecking yards, don't we? ) I consider my Subaru convertible rare, but there is one for sale in the marketplace right now. I have never seen a Touring Wagon with a Sunroof, and if indeed it did have a the sunroof, I think that would be kind of rare, I sure would like to own one. The fact is that it is rust free, in a area where there are not many rust free Subarus, that makes it hard to find or desirable, but not in the rare catagory. BTW: The Premier came from the factory on the XTs. I know there are other vehicles out there with them on, but they might have been dealer installed. The Rallys look the best in my opinion.
  16. Well, I think everyone suggestion has been good BUT, the only one that will work is Andrew's, since he lives in Oregon. The other ones work for the state they are in and probably help someone on the board but for this situation Andrew is correct. The other way is if you have a friend that owns a repair shop, they can do a lien on the vehicle. Pretty much what the property manager can do. The forms are available for free at the DMV, I would go get them, and give them to the manager and tell him you will give him $100 plus his cost, when a title is recieved.
  17. They do seem small in the back. We were out looking at Foresters and looked at a 2005 GT at the dealership. May have been an optical illusion since the back slopes down but they are almost the size of a EA81 in the back. Next dealership we sat in the back of a 2000 Legacy, quite a bit more room. But I am sure a couple set of golf clubs will still fit in the back.
  18. Does anyone know what years had the Rear Adjustable seat? By adjustable it doesn't just go flat. It has about 3 positions from full straight up for more cargo to reclining. I know the 2000's do, and the 2005 don't. But not sure what year that started and what year it stopped. Thanks in advance. Richie
  19. We have two here. My father's which is currently wrecked, and mine which needs the motor installed. At one time we had 5 of them, but have sold them for other projects. Both are 5speed 2WD Turbos.
  20. We have replace quite a few headgaskets on the 2.5 DOHC vehicle. Mostly over 100k miles. None of them have had any problems with bottom end. I understand you irration, but many people don't remember back in the 80's, the 85-88 EA82T where blowing headgaskets, cracking heads and overheating blocks at 60k miles. There are plenty of 2.5 running around with 200k miles with no headgasket problem. Since you have repeatedly overheated the vehicle I think a rebuilt motor would be best. CCR is a great company, and probably your best option. In addition Subaru has updated headgaskets, so with proper care, the next motor should outlast your vehicle. CCR also might have their own headgasket design. Ranger83, I do like your idea of prematurely replacing the headgaskets. I have figured out that it is only a couple hundred more to do the headgaskets and replace all the replacable items (waterpump, clutch, t-belt, valve covers, etc), then to do those jobs seperately, at seperate times. The Forester only has the 2.5 DOHC in one year. In 1999 and later they had the SOHC motor. Richierich Superior Import Repair, Inc Portland OR 97218
  21. I am in Spokane and would like to visit him on my way back home to Portland. If anyone has his phone #, please email it to me at richslaw@hotmail.com . Please do not post it here as it would be an evasion of his privacy. If you have my cell phone number feel free to call me with it as well, but I don't get cell phone service up here. Thank you in advance.
  22. I have learned a long time ago, don't buy stuff just because it is cheap. Buy stuff cuz it has value to you, or just value if you plan on fixing it to sell. People offer cheap cars to me all week long. But a $50 car, that needs interior ($$$ + time) and motor work (parts +time) may end up being more of a project than it is worth. If you want the cars cuz you have always wanted one of them, then that is great. If you want them cuz they are cheap, that might not be as good of a reason. I like Robs advise of putting the $100 into something you already have. I need to heed that advise more often. I have sooo many projects that none of them reach completion. And when they do, I have to sell them so I can work on the other projects.
  23. Very nice. Love the black. The 2.5SOHC is very responsive. We bought the 00 Leg GT and are very happy with it. Ours is a little sluggish on heavy acceleration, but I bet the lighter Impreza is better. Tinted windows and it would be sick!!!!
  24. Nice to meet you rsky busness, Not to high jack the post. But I do not believe that the 89 line up had Legacys. Yes, there were Legacy built in 6/89 but they are sold as 90, as the new model year usually come out in July. The vehicles you guys are probably thinking of is the 1990 Base Legacy that came w/o color key bumpers. Meaning the bumpers were all black instead of matching the paint. Also no A/C or Power Windows, etc. I believe 90 was the only year w/o matching bumpers. They really did not look good.
