Thanks guys and gals, will try and get some pictures posted, at least the newborn ones. Richie -
When are you losing the oil? After you change your oil, does it use it the first 1000 miles? Second 1000 miles? I usually find that when customer do an oil log (checking it every 500 miles) that they find the first 2000 miles hardly any oil is lost, it is after the 2000 mile mark that they see oil consumption. At that time the oil is starting to discolor, and start to burn. I personally would change my oil every 3k with a synthetic blend than 5k with full synthetic. "But opinions about oil are like a__holes, everyone has one" I see in your other post that you go skiing? Heavy driving like going up to the mountain usually burns more oil than regular city driving. Higher RPMs do push oil pass the rings. My Loyale turbo would not use a drop of oil until 2,000 miles but take it up to the mountain, and I would have to add 3/4 of a quart when I got back. Also heavy winter driving is called extreme conditions, and in the winter you might want to change your oil more frequently. PCV is also a good suggestion.

I have a set of racks with ski attachments on my RS, I think they are Yakima, the car is at my shop so I am not sure. I use the car around town, and use my 92 Legacy Turbo Wagon for skiing so the ski rack and the licence plate frame "when hell freezes over, I'll Ski there, too" is all show. Anyways, can take some pics if you are interested in a used set-up. You can come down and see what I have for bike attachments as well. Usually take all that stuff off when I sell vehicles. Richie

As owner of a Suby shop, people always ask why do we have to do the radiator? I tell them, it is 8+ years old and has had oil running through it. If they still have questions, show then how cheesy the radiator is, and say if you overheat it, and its the radiator, I will not pay for all of the repairs. I think they are like $159 bucks.

My dad saw the video on the new station and they said it was a Volvo "SUV" so I would assume it was AWD. My dad thinks that maybe the gas pedal got stuck or something, cuz there is no way a car can perpell itself like that, the video goes on to show it pushing the four cars and the end until they split into two groups. Yeah, people were pretty stupid out here, a lot of people did not have the sense to stay home.

EA81 coupe/sedan pass-through back seat?
richierich replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I installed 84 Sedan interior into a 84 4WD Coupe. Not a problem. -
ea81t 4wd coupe; how rare?
richierich replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here is my turbo website, it is kind of out of date. http://www.angelfire.com/on2/richie/Subaru/ea81TurboIndex.html The silver ea81T was sold many years ago, though I have seen it running around. We still have the blue one, but it has a dent from my dads renter http://www.angelfire.com/on2/richie/Subaru/ea81Turbo10.html -
Hi this is Richie and my father and I own Superior Import Repair, Inc in Portland, OR. My father has been working on Subarus since 1979, but we mostly work on 92-2002 Subarus right now. We have a lot of experience with torque bind (do about 2-3 duty solenoid C a month) but also have some very easy fixes if the "AT Temp" light is not flashing. Have saved people hundreds of dollars after having the dealership tell them they needed a new clutch pack I usually do not hop on to these topics as other do very well talking about us, but Cougar info is outdates so...... My email is richslaw@hotmail.com or PM me. Our website is www.fixmysuby.com but is under construction so it only has the basic info right now. I do not like talking bad about other shops but to say that Dan's is overpriced is an understatement. It is also not owned by Dan anymore so that has effected it. My real competition if you would like to check them out: Jay's Garage Mt Tech Same Day Service NW Import Specialist

and undo the either the control arm or strut or something to loosen up that area. Is that your professional opinion, or something?? Very easy Brian. Has a ball joint just like the hatch. Just have to get the nut back on very tight because you don't have a cotter pin to stick back through it. BUT..... it may be in the transmission or bearing issue, not a high rate of axle failure unless the boot has been split or water has gotten into the boot (like someone taking it off road, hmmmm, not Brian of course. )

They were stolen from inside my gated area beside my shop. Have not had any incidence of theft since we gated it in so I am very Piss off . There were more expensive stuff to steal, so I am afraid they were stolen for scrap rather than to use but I did file a police report and the female officer that took the report could not believe they were gold in color cuz she has had two Subarus and never seen gold wheels. And said they would follow up if I could find them. Will give a reward to anyone that helps find them. They were not 19inch $1000 wheels but they were left in my care, so would like to help make Ed happy. Richie

Considering buying a GT Wagon in the next year or so. Probably buy a used one but would like to get low mileage. My wife has always driven a 5 speed stick shift. We are thinking about getting an automatic as at some point in time we are going to go from 2 to 3/4 people. And kids take up more attention when you are driving. So how do people feel about their sport shift automatics, rather have a 5speed? Do you use the sport shift or is it useless. Gas mileage in the 5speed compared with the sports shift?

I don't know as gas prices have hovered around $3 a few customers have said that next time they probably won't buy an AWD vehicle because they do not use it much in the snow, etc. I say the AWD is safer in the rain, black ice and other conditions, but there are cars out there that get better gas mileage, or are bigger in size. Subaru is trying to go upscale, they do not ever have a 2 door in the line up. They will wait until the market is saturated like they did with the like 3 row small SUVs (Tribeca) and then they will finally jump on.

Yeah, I have a very strict rule about buying cars to fix up. I have to make a certain amount of profit or I do not touch them. Parts cars are harder because I own a shop so there is alway use for the parts wether I give them away or they help me get a car done faster. I definately would not have bought that last one other than I needed that EXACT fender, and have looked for one and unable to find it. My down fall is getting them parted out. Always put getting customer vehicle fixed in front of getting cars parted out, and since we are busy have gotten overstocked on parts cars. Thanks everyone for listening to me rant. I see I am not the only one in this situation. It is starting with the Legacys as well..... Lot of high mileage Legacy that are going cheap......

So I buy this 92 Loyale Wagon. 134k miles bad auto tranny and dent in fender. Charcoal grey so the fender has been hard to find Ask if anyone has a tranny. Can't find one. So I buy parts car with a good tranny. Haven't had time to install it or get rid of the parts car. I paid $100 and had to go get it in the boonies. Sold the hood and recouped some money, has decent tires so I will put those on another vehicle. High mileage so not much else worth saving. Ok, so customer has a 234k charcoal grey 5speed bad intakes gaskets leaking oil from everywhere. So they buy an Outback from the dealership and get screwed on it. It has a baffle plate leak (non-new gen people, it is located between engine/tranny) so we reseal the baffle plate and take a look at the clutch, which was actually pretty worn out. So we replace the clutch while we are in there. Take $200 off the bill and get the charcoal grey parts car. So now I have this Loyale and it has two parts cars to go with it. Am I crazy? Anyone else this stupid? I am trying to get rid of Loyales not buy more but somehow $100, or $200 worth of work seems like good deals. I let a customer tow off a 88 GL w/ dual range, and he had gotten $150 for it. I was thinking. Darn, I would have paid $150 bucks for it.

Well, first of all it is not a 1 hour job. Book time pays 2.5 hours, which sometimes can be a good deal. Some times it take less, some times it takes 2.5 hours sometimes it even takes more. We (Subaru Repair Shop) spent 4 hours on a bearing last week. Would have just swapped out a hub but we had used them all up. On a mechanics best day it, it would take more time than an hour to fix it. You being a regular guy will take at least 3 hours your first time doing it. The person who suggested swapping it out and then trying to replace the bearings in your free time, was a realist, very good idea. Just to let you know we charge $245 to install new OEM bearings, parts and labor. BTW OEM is Koyo. I can ship them to you for about $50+ shipping.

Big Thank you for Zap and Ken,and crew
richierich replied to sparkster58's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Thanks to everyone that helped out. Shawn,(rallitek/IPD) Zap and Ken, and John from Subaruwest are our hero. Tex is being too modest, as he did ALL the graphic work for the show, asking to help out next year Tex is not a request, it will be a requirement. There are also a lot of people that just saw the need and helped out. THANK YOU!!! From cleaning up the puke (craig) to helping the people who were intoxicated, and making sure they were ok (everyone on saturdaynight) and Jamie (Ken's daughter) and Paul Eklend(sp) for handling situations on Saturday night, and EuroWrx for his tractor skills and getting the place. Monica (tex's fiancee ) my wife Lisa, and Ken's son who though not active parts of the suby/rallycross community helped out whenever and where every they were asked to make the show go smoothly, same for Jamie (though she is active in suby stuff). I can think of a lot more people that helped make the show go better and Thank you. And I learned that Canadians don't have heads that flap open so they can talk. They are real people, too. Thank you for making the trip all the way down here to make the show better!!!! See my post about Subarustyles. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=507748#post507748 -

I thought it turned out great and the good out weighed the bad. I know that am personally looking forward to next years show, and help whoever is organizing it but as I posted in Corky's post: I think the registration process should come with a clear explaination of what is expected from the people that attend the show and what will not be tolerated. Thanks to everyone that helped out. Shawn,(rallitek/IPD) Zap and Ken, and John from Subaruwest are our hero. Next Year a participant only

I want to personally thank your Corky for all hard work you have put into the shows over the years. You should get to enjoy yourself from now on. Not only from all the hard work at the shows but all the hard work the months before the show set-up the registration and making sure everything went smoothly. Hopefully you will be able to advise the next registration coordinator and give them your formats, so it can go as smoothly has when you have handled it. I know with the show still vividly in our minds we want to start planning again, but most of the people who put on the show this year are tired and are going to return to there family life for a while. So hopefully no one will start any post about next years venue or like that. But it is encouraging the amount of new people that want to vounteer. Anyways a round of applauds for Corky and everyone that worked before the show to make it what it was.         (that was a circle, must be the formatting) See my post about subarustyles. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=507748#post507748 -
Owning a Subaru repair shop, I deal with quite a few women customers. Some who are defiantely couples and other who might just be really close friends. They are always nice, knowledgable and tend to take good care of their vehicles compared to my male customer and single female customers. No real bull dykes, most of them are professionals and active people / outdoors people, just like my other customers, so I do not think it is always their orientation that causes them to buy Subarus but their athletic and outdoorsy lifestyle.

Mick has a lot of regular sized S U B A R U decals that can be made in any color and they are already formated up. I can't find the link but Mick probably knows where it is.
