  1. Then it must be what Moosens states - an earlier version of pilot bearing. Prior to any hint of my mechanical experience - like steam engines. What Luk part # did you get - is it the right one, hopefully?
  2. In your clutch kit, did you get a throwout bearing and a pilot bearing? And also this 'third' bearing? What kit did you end up buying - it's been a few months since that post.
  3. This thread reminds me of a 1980's movie call "Used Cars". I think Kurt Russell was in that movie. Funny stuff - you gotta rent it... if you can. THAT'S TOO EFFING HIGH !!! Then they blow up their competitor's car that was priced too high.
  4. I didn't know you could buy just the cv joint. Do you have a source available - in US or only AUS?
  5. Second that. Should be getting 30+ with manual trans. Fuel gauges read low on ea82s. If you run the tank until you're out of gas - then put in 2-gal from your trusty extra gas can, when you get to the nearest gas station, you will take 13.9 gal. Ask me how I know. I, also,in the past, would fill the tank with about 11 gal when it read Empty... so I had to test it.
  6. In addition to freezing, I would put a light coating of white lithium grease on seal and mating surface.
  7. Once again, Jeszek shows his amazing collection of Soob videos (and pics). Solid Proof that ea82's just want to Run.
  8. Sounds like alot of work to add a second fuel tank. One easy option comes to mind. 1. After 300 miles of driving - Stop at a service station and fill up the stock fuel tank (we have lots of them here in America). If you want extra gas, mount a few jerry cans off your rear bumper (like a Jeep).
  9. Definitely plug the return line. I believe the vent went to the carbon cannister... beings that is cut, you could plug it as well.
  10. You know I would be there if I could. There have to be some Soobie Storm Chasers on this forum ... work on your motor ... chase some storms. I think you might be the only Kansas member ... at least, that I have seen.
  11. I was on their website. Austrailia manuf. Was looking for some pricing, but looks like they only sell thru reps. Anyone ever used a SuperPro rep on the west coast? Also, they say the Leone was years 79 to 94 - so that includes the ea81 and ea82 models. Does the EA81 and EA82 have the same rad arm/ control arm bushing size?
  12. I have never seen just the joint for sale. Just the entire axle, which includes the CV joint and the DOJ. A lot of discussion on this site about repairing, replacing and rebooting the axle.
  13. Really sounds like a bad alternator. You said you tested it, but maybe have a shop bench test it.
  14. Buy that CAR ! At $800, it is a steal. After you get it running (and yes, it will run), you will enjoy the ride for 20 years.
  15. In 1985, the EA82 came out. Do you have an EA81 ... if so, you have 2 fuel filters - one underneath near the fuel pump and one in the engine compartment.
  16. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/90744-ea82-crank-pulley-removal-help/ Here you go.
  17. Nice work on this, CF85. At some point, we will need aftermarket sources. Keep us posted ... and thank YOU.
  18. Inspection plate is easy to get to from underneath. 2 bolts and it's off. I usually leave mine off. Heads get hot immediately. Make sure you get a temp gauge working. If you replace the sending unit and it still does not work, get an aftermarket temp gauge. You don't want to overheat your motor ... EVER.
  19. I had a problem with the flywheel inspection plate hanging up on the bell housing (a few years ago). So now, I always remove the plate before dropping the motor back in.
  20. The AMS 15003 show the specs - Looks like the right clutch for you. Hopefully, the LUK 15003 is the same specs.
  21. Clutch disc specs for EA81 4WD 1983 + 21T x 7/8” and 225mm OD ... your 84 4WD wagon will have this clutch. The 15003 seems to be an Exedy part #. You should check the specs of a 15003 to see if they match what I said in sentence above. My records show that my 82 FrontWD EA81 has a 5-speed manual. It takes a 21T x 7/8” x 200mm clutch. Sachs KF59901 or Exedy 15001. So do not buy the 15001, it is for FrontWD 5-speeds and for pre-1983 4WD.
  22. On the knocking issue.... could be bad shocks/struts. I had some 'knocking' .... turned out to be the 30 year-old shocks. I replaced all 4 on my '85 Loyale. Also replaced tie rods and ball joints up front. Drives like a dream, now.
  23. Run the blue/red wire to the fan (this wire should have 12v with ignition on). The yellow wire from the fan will go to the thermoswitch. The thermoswitch will complete the ground when the temp gets around 180. If your thermoswitch has 2 black wires, connect the yellow (from fan) to one of the black wires. Take the other black wire and connect to ground.
  24. Sometimes the clicking sound could be an exhaust leak at the heads. It will go away when the pipes heat up and close the gap. Easy to check at start up, with front wheels up on ramps. Be careful.
