I'm not sure but i got into the show because of the brat. In the first episode had the factory style jump seats and was still painted factory midnight blue and had a gray BRAT stripe. so imagine it was painted for the show especially since i think it had to chrome trims on the windows the first episode and after that it only had the windshield chrome along with what look like retrofit front bucket seats for dodge and earl jr.'s car seats.

1st Gen Brat in Forza Horizon 2
SubieBrat replied to l75eya's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I tried driving it stock with ea71 and drove an 1/8 of a mile turned around and put STI engine it. I bought one I'm keeping fairly stock and the other one, yes I know sacrilege, an ls1 swap. just so I can try and beat my friends with it. ran out of money to play with in the game. sounds like real life -

SubieBrat replied to zyewdall's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i may be interested in at least one of them. i want to see some pics first -
Well i know this thread has been dead for a while, but that's all to me getting injured 7 days after starting the thread, school, and getting sick over the summer. I am however happy to say that it is up and running. Had quite a few hold ups while putting it in, including having to change the entire dash harness, but overall i am extremely happy. So now for the list of mods as of today Ej frankenmotor 5 speed D/R 4" lift on the cross members and 3" on suspension 15" 505 Pug Alloys 82 Brat instrument cluster EA81 non-turbo power steering rack Still have a lot of body work to do, but the guys next to where I work are helping me out with that and so far i am very please. But i am planning on painting it Dodge Viper SRT Pearl Blue, dynomatting the interior, putting in impreza seats, and a steel rear bumper. I'll upload some pictures as soon as i can

Ej Frankenmotor brat swap over heating
SubieBrat replied to SubieBrat's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Thank you for the help everyone. i pulled the motor and transmission out of the one that was overheating and put it all in my lifted one. It has a different radiator in it and i bought two new fans for it, both wired to work on the factory EA thermal switch, since the one on this radiator works. stays cool now actually drove the lifted one for the first time tonight and not a single problem. -
About a year ago I swapped my 85 brat with a Frankenmotor 25/22 and 96 legacy harness. About two months ago i was driving around a parking lot with my friend and it started overheating. As soon as i started moving its cooled off. I dont have a problem as long as i don't sit still or drive a slow speed for more than about 5 minutes. Most recently it did it friday night when i took my girlfriend up a mountain road and we pulled over so we could look at the view. I left the car running for about 5 minutes and it started smelling hot, but yet again cooled down when i started moving again. I have one 10 inch Hayden fan hardwired so its always on with ignition. Modified brat radiator leaks from the coolant cap a little. replaced the cap twice once with a used one in good shape and today with a new one. problem started in august. i dont really want to add a second fan at this moment if i dont have to. pressure test holds extremely well Any suggestions?

I have a set of 15 inch alloys just like the ones in the craigslist at on my lifted brat, and a set of 14 inch steel ones on my stock height one

I have a second Gen topper here in Colorado if you wanna come look at it. needs the passenger side window replaced but good shape otherwise. Snugtop Subaru one.

Newer Halogens/HIDs into second gen brat?
SubieBrat replied to SubieBrat's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
yeah, i agree that they are kind of annoying. just trying to weigh my options as far as lights go. i have an ej swap in my 85 right now and its going into the 86. its just the sealed beams in my 86 got water in them and and dont turn on what so ever. the ones in my 85 dont light the road up very much, even less when in it rains so i cant see the lines on the road. i talked to ShawnW today and he said that he could be just a matter of adjustment(which is very possible since they werent correct alignment when i bought the brat and i spun out and hit a concrete barrier last febuary and had to replace the light bracket), so as of now im leaning to towards trying to keep the sealed but as a worse case get these light lens and possible wire in an outback or legacy light harness in and do the some different lights like xenons or the hids but trying to stay away from those now since Gloyale made a good point with the amprage draw since im already running an 800 watt stereo. what do you guys think? try to keep the sealed or order the lenses? -
Newer Halogens/HIDs into second gen brat?
SubieBrat replied to SubieBrat's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I think we may have found some at summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grm-09-130-b-pr thinking about ordering sometime here pretty soon. found these right before you posted. Just wondering what or if everyone else has done too Thanks for the help Skylar -
Has anyone done this? I want to upgrade the headlights in my 86 brat and would prefer HIDs if I can. Is there a kit out there? I have searched for hours and cant seem to find one that takes me from the sealed glass headlights to something that I can put bulbs into. Thanks in advance

I bought an 86 lifted brat with a "leveling" kit. it has 5" strut blocks but 4" on the rest of everything. I like the stance of the leveling kit but i cant drive it with the camber its putting on my wheels. should i put 5" blocks on the rest of the sub-frame and keep it level or cut my strut blocks and remove the leveling? I need to get this brat running and driving as soon as possible because my other one is about to rust through. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks

making Cold Air intake ej swapped brat
SubieBrat replied to SubieBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
But what about bringing the air from the outside in? I dont have much of a way to do that because the two different body styles. -
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a cold air intake for a swapped ej22 brat? i want a real cold air not just the short ram. thats what i have right know and it real sucks with the rapid changes in temp here in colorado. I lack power when its above 65 degrees. Don't know if thats related to a missing rear o2 sensor though or coming from engine bay temp. But i still would like to make a Cold Air system for the Brat. Any suggestions would be much appreciated (mainly where to put filter and material to use)

I swapped my brat about six months ago. I am 17 years old as well. I was in the same situation as you are; however, my engine was starting to give out on me and finally did. I ended up having to drive my moms truck (our spare vehicle) for four months. I had to borrow some money from my friend and did mine with about $2500-3000 start to finish, but i had to rebuild the motor on the donor car(crank walk from bad tranny). If at all possible I would wait until summer comes around and do everything at once, especially since school is almost out. The 5-speed swap cost me about 700 for the transmission (but i bought it with the linkages already modified). I drilled the fly wheel myself with a drill press and cut out the adapter plate with a jigsaw out of aluminum and drilled and tapped the holes (took me a few day to get it right, use center punches that you can slide into the block and tranny hole to make sure you get them center), ended up saving me about 300 bucks. If you do every thing right, and have access to the proper machinery, you can probably do your swap fairly inexpensively. But prepare as much as you can before hand (including the harness) and I would imagine with help from a few friends you could probably do everything in a week or two at most. All-in-all i would say it is well worth it swap it. Especially if the kids at your school hate your car for some stupid reason. There is a satisfaction knowing that you have the knowledge to do this and also the power to beat your friends (plus you can rub it in their faces that you're getting good mileage while having the power). I love every minute of driving my brat and am so glad that I swapped it. Worth every cent.

I'll be honest, if you don't mind losing the stock radio, it would probably be easier to go buy a cheap radio with a jack at the store, get an adapter if you hard set on the 1/8th, and just change it out.

Ok so i ended up getting new washers and a new nut. i was pretty close to the torque specs without using a torque wrench. I pull the nut off today and check everything and there was a lip on the cone washer. I just replaced everything and used my friends torque wrench to set to 145 ft-lbs. ill have to wait a few days and see. ill try to keep this updated
