I just finished putting in a 5-speed for my brat. I go to start it and it starts imidiately but then wants to die. It sounds like something is hanging up, I think it is the starter but I don't know for sure . The transmission is in nuetral. Are the starter motors for the four speed and five speed different? or does anyone have any suggestions?

Anti diesalling valve. It was shorting out on the air cleaner. So hopefully that fixes it. I'll keep all you up to date

My brat is having a few problems. I was driving around today and i started to smell burning oil. I don't know if its my antifreeze (water pump is cracked) or actual oil. i just replaced the oil a few months ago, with brand new oil, filter, and I cleaned out the line with kerosine. I sprayed the bottom of the car off with the hose, couldn't find the leak. When I went to go drive for a few minutes to get it to leak again, the car wasn't running right. I got the end of my street, its maybe 400 feet to the end of the street, the car stalls. My choke was all the way open and the engine was warm and it 68 degrees outside. I tried to start the car about 15-20 times and nothing. It would started and then when i would rev it up it would get to 2500rpm and start to struggle, then at 3000rpm it stalled completely. I was on the next street over. I was starting to push it and then i try to start it again and it did. Its done this once before and i was at the library and it started right back up. It kind like bogs down and dies, really with my foot to keep it just above 2000rpm to drive normally, it usually stays on if i push the clutch in, but this time and the last time it hasn't. All my vacuum lines are attached or capped appropriately Both fuel filters are new, spark plugs and wires less than 6 months old, just switched to manual choke, new alternator and new battery. I have less than a month to figure it out because I live in Colorado and we're about to get into one of our snowiest months and I can't drive my mom's truck for long. Can anybody help me figure it out?

ok thanks. i started the car with it open all the way cuz the car was off for maybe a minute and i let it run for a few seconds while i plugged my ipod, so ill keep an eye out for it. Thanks again.

Ok so I installed a cable choke. Now sometimes it bogs down. Yesterday I was leaving the library and I hit 3,000 rpm and it bogged down to 2,000 rpm and then stalled completely. I started it back up and it ran fine. No other problems. It did something like this before but it never stalled and it only happens once in while. Should i be worried?

Radio doesnt work when its cold out
SubieBrat replied to SubieBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ill check the power wire. i replaced everything when i put the new stereo in. the only thing i didnt change was how the wires were for the power and illumination for the actual deck. i replace the speaker wires with new ones and ran the wires from the crossovers to the amps, both positive and negative in there correct spots. the whole set is less than a year old. also i just replaced the alternator a little over a month ago(original alternator) and the battery two weeks ago. also i forgot to mention this earlier but i added an alarm to it. the power for that is attached to the 12v always power. i added that in march and the radio was installed in january and i think (not 100% sure) that it worked just fine then, in feburary we had a big snow storm and covered all the cars and i remember trying to use the sub to shake the snow off. Could the alarm be effecting it? -

I added the amp with my new radio and it was doing the same thing with the old radio which was a cheap pioneer from walmart that was wired like crap. i did how ever find my choke cable was cut. it seems that it start to work at about the time the choke would open, however i remove the electric choke, but the wire for it are still there. Could it be connected to the choke? -
