1979 Brat outer tie rod ends
belacane replied to Demon Brat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I did the out tie rod ends on my second gen brat with parts from O'Reilly, and everything worked fine. -
Brat with a blown motor, worth saving?

HOWDY from Colorado!
belacane replied to chigaroogarem's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Welcome! And yes, your tech was right. Having vastly different tire tread depths can damage the center diff. on your soobie. A bit pricey, but to me, my soobs are so worth it. I don't know what your place of service offers or recommends, but sometimes garages will shave down the tread on a new tire to match old ones. A cheaper option. -
So awesome! You are an inspiration

Absolutely worth saving! Subies of this era are delightfully easy to work on, and a brat with a clean body is a rare find indeed. I'd get it without hesitation -
Don't know much about wiring yet, but here is a huge welcome for you!

Hey and welcome! I have your car's brother...an 86 brat, and I love it!

1st and 2nd gen trans compatability
belacane replied to belacane's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thank you Leeroy. -
Looking to do a d/r swap on a 1980 brat. Will a dual range trans from a 2nd gen brat from 1982 bolt up with 1st gen brat from 1980. I'm aware the that 1980 brat came as a single range. If any, what mods are needed to make the transplant work? Thanks!

That sure is true. Although about a month ago I was really surprised to see another brat on the side of the road not far from my place. It was crashed up on the front end...ended up buying it for a song and now I'm parting it out. Apparently it belonged to a German exchange student who had originally wanted an el Camino but couldn't afford one. Once it's carcass is gone, I'm pretty sure I'll be the only 2nd gen brat for miles.

Awesome! Good luck and have fun! Im still having problems with mine, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I have a feeling the emulsion tubes ate switched....but I haven't had a chance to check. I'll post updates here.

Thank you! It's coming along slowly, but surely.

ea81 OIL PAN REMOVAL AND INSTALL HELP
belacane replied to noob2soob22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there isn't much to it... just unscrew, put in new gasket, and screw back on. As for tightening sequence, the general rule is from the center outwards... so the ones closest to the corners will be the last ones you tighten. -

hitachi carb - issues after partial rebuild

I don't know how many turns as of recently, because I was the one sitting in the car watch the tach the last time the idle was adjusted. It does respond to the changes in the idle screw. -
Source for rear inner fender wells? '84 Brat
belacane replied to greg454's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have some in pretty good shape on an '82 brat I'm parting out. I could probably cut them out for you if I can find the tool to do so (in the middle of a partial move). Let me know if you're interested and I'll see what I can do. If they're not too bad, you might also consider cutting out the holes and welding in sheet metal. You can see pictures of how I did it on my '86 brat in the link in my signature. best of luck!
