  1. People get rid of cars for so many different reasons, it's hard to say that short ownership is a bad sign. Maybe he moved overseas, or he couldn't afford to keep a car. Maybe he found something he liked better, or he is particular about having cars only under 100k even if they're still in good shape, or he just decided cta was the answer . I'm not sure about specific issues that '07's have, but I do know that it will be due for a timing belt soon (i think it's 90k..correct me if I'm wrong). Good luck with your buy! Soobs are awesome!
  2. Welcome welcome! I used to work as a tech for Nissan. Drove a lot of Rogues....but Subaru will always have my heart. Love how they drive and wouldn't get anything else. I work for Subaru now
  3. Did two things I'd never done before over the past week: 1) wheel bearings and ball joints 2) partially rebuilt the hitachi carb. Also.... 3) Put on the badges for the tailgate! The carb is fine and she runs so much better. The wheel bearing turned into a crazy mechanical adventure that's still not finished.... because I ended up bending the steering knuckle in a press (yeah... when the press doesn't want to move... don't move it!!! ), and ended up getting a thread chaser caught in the brake caliper bracket. Still working on drilling it out. Also apparently learned than an '82 Brat has a slightly different caliper/bracket assembly than an '86. And the fun continues... :)
  4. Just did the d/s wheel bearing and ball joint (and learned the hard way that when a hydraulic press doesn't want to move.... don't move it! I bent the knuckle but thanks to another board member I'm up and running again. ) Also partly rebuilt the carb to fix a leaky accelerator pump. And.... finally got the badges back on the tailgate along with the USMB decal :)
  5. That might have been auto corrects way of saying YOUR BRAT IS AWESOME!!! . sadly, I don't remember what I meant to say instead, but what came out had prett good results
  6. Been following this..and so glad to see you're still going! Brats forever!
  7. Are doors for 2nd gen brats universal? I have an '86 brat with possible donor doors from an '82. Will this work?
  8. Crap, thats what I thought. Gonna try and torch it and bend it back....let's see how that goes...
  9. Hey all, Replaced my drivers side wheel bearings, cv axle and ball joint this week on my '86 Brat. Everything went well until I started putting everything back together.... The bracket, which attaches to the steering knuckle, rubs on the brake rotor, as seen in the picture below. All bolts are tightened and in place and I'm 100% sure the caliper bracket is not bent. Here's a picture of where it's rubbing: I'm a little bit worried I actually messed up / bent the knuckle, while I was using a hydraulic press to get the wheel bearings out of it. It took me putting far too much pressure (10 tons) on the wheel bearings from one side to realize that there's a casting ridge in the middle of the knuckle and that the bearings needed to be pushed out from the center. After that was realized, they came out and went back in fine. But is it possible that I've bent the ears on the knuckle from too much pressure and that's why the caliper bracket is not fitting correctly? Any hints, tips....etc. would be greatly helpful eep!
  10. Hey all, My '86 brat that I got last year already had a 5 speed swap with a trans off what the seller said was an '86 or '87 dual range GL Wagon. The d/s CV has gone bad and in the market for a new one, am unsure of which new axle to get...one for the '86 brat or one for the trans...or does it even make a difference? Thanks in advance!
  11. It's a check ball on the inlet for the acc. Pump? Thank you so much for the pics.
  12. While taking apart the hitachi 2bbl off an '86 brat, this little ball (circled in the photo), fell on the floor. Interested to know what it does and where it goes (there's a replacement for it in the kit). Thanks in advance!
  13. so the carb kit I bought for the '86 Brat Hitachi is NOT the right one. Got one for an '84 GL wagon and it fits. Thx guys for being so helpful.
  14. Welcome! If you have something like photobucket, you cam upload and resize the photos there. Would live to see pics
  15. Aba4430, here are photos of the vacuum arrangement from the a/c idle up.
  16. Well I went to O'Reilly and they had no problem pulling up a carb kit for an '86 brat gl. If this was the case, will I be good as far as it fitting, or should I still grab one for an '84 wagon?
  17. Ah the poor man's tune up did do this already. It didn't help unfortunately
  18. Yes, I will take pictures this evening for you when I get home. Did do a tune up recently. Also tried the idle adjust screw, which did not help, which is why I went the a/c vacuum up route. Does that indicate that it is perhaps more carb relayed than not? Thanks much for the replies! Will update with what I find as I continue working.
  19. Hello all, So as of a few weeks ago, the idle on my '86 Brat dropped so low (to less than 100) that she'd stall after a couple of seconds at idle. However, when driving, performance is normal. I Imagine I'm going to have to take a look at the carb, there are various leaks, and I'm sure it's got a lot of gunk stuck in emulsion tubes...etc.. While I've never rebuilt / cleaned out a carb before, I know someone who's very good at it, and that will be helping me. Until then though, did some experimentation and developed a little quick fix that I'm not quite sure about being legit, but the result is an idle of about 1000. Here's what I did: In the picture above, noticed that there's a vacuum hose attached to some kind of thing-a-majiger (circled) that when the car is on, opens the throttle a bit. To get the car to idle again, basically fooled around with this, so that it opens the throttle more. Ended up moving the washer (orange arrow) to the other side of the bracket holding it and loosening the nut to shorten the arm that pulls on the throttle. Now it idles at about 1000. So my questions are: ... what is this thing? ...Is it part of the idle control? It was just a wild guess to adjust it like that. ...Is it safe for the engine to do this until I'm able to clean out the carb? ...and are there any other reasons why that would be causing her not to idle, but perform fairly well when driving? Thanks guys!
