Finally got a new exhaust
Stubies Subie replied to Stubies Subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
whaa-whooo!, that exhaust did wonders for my little Subie, I'm no longer the last one to leave a traffic light after it turns green, and ...now Y'all ain't gonna believe this, ... On my way to work today, I passed a Fiat 500, cus he was driven to slow, we come around this corner, I shifted into second, hit the straight away ...floored it, shifted it to third, and waved by-by to the Fiat as I went scoot'en on by. and when it comes to pulling the trailer, .. we got this hill on the highway that leads up to the road you turn on to get to our new house, and it's got a passing lane ....hehehe ... I can pull that hill all they way to the top in 4th gear and the car holds her own. going to a 2.25 inch exhaust made an incredible difference in performance, all I can say is ....wow, I really like driving that car now -
Finally got a new exhaust
Stubies Subie replied to Stubies Subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think it sounds real good, with the torque cam grind it got when the engine was resealed, that exhaust gives it a nice boxer rumble, it's not loud and annoying but it's there if you take a listen for it -
I finally got a new exhaust system on Ol' KC, no more Ghetto car with rotted out exhaust. last week I put new tires on it, and a trailer hitch, and this week I got a new exhaust from the cat back, they went all the way with 2.25 pipe to the magnaflow muffler, it's got a nice mellow boxer sound now, and surprisingly, it has more oomph to, the car's not near as sluggish as it used to be. I was going to have them put a cherry bomb where the resonator was supposed to go, but decided not to, to save a little money, and after driving the car this afternoon, I don't think it needs one, it sounds great just the way it is. between the exhaust and the new tires and wheels, it's like a whole nother ride

I finally got a stereo in the Legacy, this has been my project car for the last year, we've done a lot of work to it getting it fixed and repaired. (thanks GD!!) one thing about the car I didn't like was the looks of that gaping hole in the dash board where the stereo was supposed to go, so with the help of my boss at work (he supplied the stereo) and rick, Good Ol' GD who gave me the other missing parts, we now have a nice working/sounding stereo in the car that looks like it belongs there ... I so happy! ) P.S. I still gotta get over there and pay you rick, I keep forgetting!! thanks for the parts!!

it's moving day!! I took my fist trip today with Ol' KC, sporting his new wheels and tires, and new trailer hitch, pulling the old utility trailer, and with a 1,000 lb combined payload (trailer and contents) driving was a little slow, but Ol' KC handled it just fine, we made two trips today, one to the dump and another to the new house. more trips are instore for tomorrow.

after 3 days of tire problems, flat fixing, thumpy rides, ect, I finally gave up and when to Less Schwab (our local tire center) and bought me a new set. I had them mounted on the phone dial aluminum rally wheels I got off craigs list last summer, so now my car is sporting a new look what'cha Y'all think? here's what they used to look like: http://s1239.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrlinfoot/media/102_2526.jpg.html?sort=3&o=84 and here's what they look like now:

I haven’t updated the Legacy thread in a while, mainly because of other projects. The legacy is still sitting but now runs and drives fine, I haven’t licensed it yet, so it’s not getting used, but while it sits, I’ve been doing little things to it here and there just to dress it up a little bit. I bought a stereo from a guy at work, but it was missing a few parts, so I located all the parts off ebay and ordered them, they should be here next week, meanwhile, I had been scouting around for the big glove box pocket thing that goes under the radio, so when I do the stereo instillation, everything is going to looking like it belongs. While I was over at general Disorders place tonight getting help with the trailer hitch project on the loyale, I mentioned that I was on the lookout for one of those boxes for the legacy, and he said, “hey, I got an extra” so I snatched it, I should have the radio in the car and working by the end of the week, it’s going to look good. I have no idea what kind of shape the speakers are in, but I hope there good. Meanwhile, the car is coming along nicely, with not having to drive it or need it for anything, I can afford to let it sit and tinker on it as time allows. http://s1239.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrlinfoot/media/100_2897.jpg.html one of the reasons it’s taking me so long to get things done is because I’m working on 3 cars at the same time, so it’s little bits here and there for each car, plus I just got a pickup to do some wood hauling, dump runs and haul the boat to the river. http://s1239.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrlinfoot/media/100_2891.jpg.html

1991 Loyale Wagon - let the build begin.
Stubies Subie replied to Stubies Subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it's been a while since I had a chance to update this thread, mainly because I hadn't done anything to the car that was worthy of posting until today. I finally got a trailer hitch for the Loyale, I found a Curt brand 1-1/4 receiver for $114 online, and finally got it installed on the car tonight, when I went to bolt it to the bottom of the bumper, I discovered that the bumper was completely rotted out, so I had to go to the wrecking yard and get a good bumper that wasn’t rusty, it turns out that it was nicer then my old one anyway. After some grumping and cussing, I finally took what I had over to General Disorders place and asked him to help me get it mounted which he did. I can now tow my little utility trailer. http://s1239.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrlinfoot/media/100_2895.jpg.html Speaking of utility trailers, I spent, the most part of Saturday rebuilding the old rotted out rack that was on it. I salvaged what boards I could, replaced what I couldn't salvage, and put it all back together, the rack isn't as tall as it was before, but that's ok, it's still going to get the job done ) http://s1239.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrlinfoot/media/100_2894.jpg.html I also got some parts from GD for the Legacy, so I get to update that thread tonight as well. -
ok, I can send up a good set for exchange, when it comes to the rear drums, wouldn't I be better off to just buy a new set rather then getting something used from the wrecking yard?
-
I'll do a set to, but I need to go wrecking yarding and pick up some drums and rotors. that will all fit in a large flat rate box won't it? I'll have to wait till after Christmas for mine though, in the middle of moving right now, but I can probably get some parts gathered up and ready to ship
-
yup that sux, or I'd buy them )
-
I was just looking up wheels in the 4x114.3 pattern, lots of choices, if you could do that, that would be awesome, heck, I'd even buy a set of drums and rotors.

Clutch class 101 ....
Stubies Subie replied to Stubies Subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm kind of thinking I'm going to have this fixed in January, so now might be a good time to be looking for a 5 speed D/R transmission to replace the regular one that I have in there now. I like the idea of stiffer pressure plate, I'm not sure where the flywheel came from all I know is that mine was toast, so this one replaced it. the car should hold out until January, if not, then I'll be getting it fixed sooner, but in the mean time, I better get busy and start collecting parts, and I figured my best bet to cure the problem it has now is to just replace everything with new from the flywheel to the throw out bearing and everything in-between including the pilot bearing as well 8-| -

I saw a Loyale parts catalog for-sale on ebay the other day, I should of bought it, I'll bet if someone has one of those parts catalogs, and you find the number to that little clip, googeling that number should bring up a place to buy it. -
I need a little educating in the in the differences in clutches from standard, to stage 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on. I'm pretty well convinced I have a clutch issue with ol KC, my 91 4x4 Loyale wagon. I felt the thing slip today fr the first time, let me explain what happened: I was sitting at a stop sign at a bit of an incline (maybe 15 degrees or so) on a rain soaked street, and in the wet weather, having somewhat bald front tires (I'm getting ready to change them out for better ones) I had the cars stacking up behind me, and knowing I was going to get a lot of wheel spin coming off that hill as i entered traffic, I decided to put it in 4WD, I brought up the rpms, rather quickly let my foot off the clutch ( don't have much clutch to begin with, as it engages 3/4 of the way up, if not more) as I pulled out, I noticed that the tires weren't spinning, but the clutch was slipping. when I had the clutch put in the car, I had bought a used low millage clutch kit, only having a few hundred miles on it, and my original flywheel was toast, so I went with a used one. I know it was probably a bad idea, but I was running out of money, and needed to get the car running. fast forward a year, the clutch never has been right as far as where it engages on the clutch peddle, and I've always suspected that I put the wrong flywheel in it, and that has been the main cause of the problem, (this is just a guess on my part, but it's what I'm thinking) after I felt it slip today, I'm thinking maybe the time is coming that I will need to correct the problem, and start out with all new stuff, from a new flywheel to a clutch kit. I'm also getting ready to put a trailer hitch on the car for towing, so I think now is a good time to start collecting parts for the clutch job. I've been doing some google searching and seeing stuff from stock to stage 5 clutch kits, I'll start out with a new flywheel, but what do I want for a clutch kit? I figure to solve the clutch problem I have now, I'll replace everything including the clutch cable, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. so educate me, what am I looking for?

it sounds to me like a thermostat that's sticking open, but like you said, unless you got a bad one that was new out of the box, that seems unlikely. I've heard rumor that the EA82's only like a factory thermostat, and that's what I have in mine, mine does run cool as well hardly ever going past the 1/4 mark on the gauge any time of year, but my heat blows hot even when the temp gauge is barely off the cold mark when warming up, so I have to wonder if you might possibly also have a partially plugged up heater core.

I didn't get to do a complete interior clean, the grand daughter came over, and wanted to go do a a gazillion things at once which didn't leave me a whole lot of time to work on the interior of the wagon, so I vacuumed the drivers area than fixed the sagging falling down carpet and got it anchored like it was supposed to be, just before we loaded up the dog (who I swear acts like she's never ridden in a car before) and the grand daughter so we could go play at a very muddy rain soaked park ...with said dog ... now the car seats got mud all over them, but at least the carpet glue is still sticking ...

I haven't got to work on mine at all, been to busy with the Legacy project, the truck project, the Celica project, the house gutter project, the employment project ....... and it's really starting to show, the Loyale is loud, the muffler is falling off, the tires are bald, the wheels still need painted, the interior stinks, needs a good bath, but dang if it don't run good and it gets me to work every day
