Which spark plugs for the frankenmotor?
I ran a set of BKR7E-11 plugs for a week and didn't notice any difference in terms of pulling timing or not. I'm going to try them again when I get tuned and see if they make any difference.

BAHNHOF-HD-Clutch-Kit Anyone use these?
cal_look_zero replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBahnhof, F1, and XTR are all rebranded factory 2nds from OEM manufacturers, and often times you can see the original name under the coat of paint they throw on the pressure plate.

Frankenmotor dyno results
You don't even want to see that one... Pretty much held at 13ish until 5k rpm. I got home Friday night from my trip up there, woke up Saturday and bought a perfect power. Getting it tuned in a few weeks after I fix my tranny and hopefully get tax refunds.

Clutch/Transmission noise; 97 OBS 5MT
Any chance you have a list of P/Ns laying around so I can get the right parts straight away? Seems like all the online Subi dealerships only offer a whole transmission for purchase and no exploded diagrams.

Good to know. I'll get them ordered up.

Those P/Ns look about right?

Clutch/Transmission noise; 97 OBS 5MT
Sounds painless enough. I'd rather just gank mine out and do it in a day instead of swapping trannys and having to pull 2 of them. I'll look more into it. I thought GD said that the bearing was like $135. I just bought a 12 ton press like 3 weeks ago... Time to put it to use I suppose.

Clutch/Transmission noise; 97 OBS 5MT
Sounds like my upgrade budget just got tightened up a bit. Balls. Fortunately I have another 3.9 5mt in a 96 Legacy I'm parting out. I'll slap that in for the time being and rebuild mine. Not like I wanted to put time into learning PP6 Any good reads on doing the bearing(s)? Any recommendations on WYAIT?

Show of hands, who thinks I need a tune? LOL Getting a PP6 and heading back up to Pre in about 3 weeks. Anyone have a lead on one for sale?

Clutch/Transmission noise; 97 OBS 5MT
Well I have had a progressively louder and louder noise in my transmission area for the last 3 weeks, and it's pretty unbearable (for me) now. It's silent when I have the clutch pedal depressed or in neutral. Otherwise at all times I have a groan/deep whine noise. It's really bad on deceleration, and is present at all times except acceleration (Which may be a product of my loud exhaust drowning it out) So I'm leaning towards TOB, especially since my input shaft had some serious wear and I didn't know about the repair sleeves, OR it's my input shaft bearing, but I thought that would make noise in neutral as well? I just need to make it last about 3 weeks until tax time, but don't want to buy a whole new clutch kit unless I have to either. This is an Exedy KSB04 kit, but the pilot and TOB were bought from a parts store.

What sealant?
cal_look_zero replied to samm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI use ultra grey. Oil pans, oil pumps, oil separator, case halves, etc. I know some people on here will go into a fit if you suggest ANYTHING but Anaerobic sealant. While it is better, $40 a tube and having to order online is a bit of an inconvenience to most DIYers, and I have yet to have ultra grey fail me.

Quick question re: steering boots
cal_look_zero replied to jarl's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXChanging the boots is a huge PITA. I changed mine, put all new tie rods in, and they tore again within 6 months (albeit rally and aggressive driving). I wouldn't worry about it personally.

New driver seats for 96?
03 WRX seats in my 97. Everything "EJ" pre 08, bolts into one another with minimal, if any, modifications.

Gasket set for Franken build
Well I'm running .040s with no issues.

Gasket set for Franken build
Only for the 96 which had flat tops and cleared the deck. The 97+ had dished pistons.

Gasket set for Franken build
I can. I have the recommended .040 HG from cometic, 17k miles since my build and I flog the piss out of my car. No seepage to be seen. For all of my other gaskets (Except rear main) I used the Evergreen kit from Mizumo Auto on eBay. I used a Subaru rear main and steel oil separator plate from the dealership.

Why Subaru?
At 10 years old, this car was the coolest "attainable car" I had ever seen. I mean, I like to mountain bike, and roller blade, and all that jazz; that's the car for me... 15 years later.
