Looks like the car itself needs some work, we've got a couple small rust spots, there're some ants and interestingly coloured spiders crawling around inside, there are a couple small plastic bits that are broken, the dash bezel is slightly coming off on the left-hand side, and she'll need some paint. So a little back-story, I went and picked up the body for the vehicle this last weekend from Washington. She had been sitting for quite a while...but, the Old ER27 started right up once we boosted the battery. Coughed horrible blue smoke for about 20 seconds, then she smoothed right out. If the transmission weren't full of "Neutrals" I could probably drive around a bit. Finally, looks like I need to pick up an appropriate flywheel to be able to bolt the transmission, clutch parts and engine together, but other than that, there will be a lot of small fiddly work until the end of the month. Lastly! the car came with a bunch of interesting goodies. For instance, I was digging around in the trunk, and found a complete, original, front bra, and also a set of "xt coupe" floor mats. AND SOME RUSH TAPES. Hellz ya Rush. But ya, other than that, we're just doing a really intensive clean at the moment!

That's very true, but they didn't sell well enough that Subaru continued to produce a small truck afterwards, nor did they continue the brat line (For the north American market at least.). The brat went from the Leone, to the loyale, but not to the legacy. This was because it wasn't popular enough to justify production. Additionally, the car market is NOTHING like it was when the brat was being produced.

How can you tell?

Well, I've amassed enough parts, and I'm getting pretty close to starting work, so I'm ready to start a build thread. Here's the plan 1988 Subaru xt6, satin white exterior, full air suspension. 2007 EZ30DR with 60,000KM 1996 Version 3 JDM STI transmission with 50,000km Full interior update. White Leatherette side bolsters, Black Alcantara seating surfaces and door cards. Foam reinforced in specific areas with memory foam for additional "Hold". Haltech P2000 standalone engine management system. Still looking for a proper clutch setup. (I'm wondering if there's any way to swap a push type clutch to a pull type as I have a 2004 STI clutch I'd like to use.) RX body kit XT-T Digital dash. Initially I plan to see if I can create some sort of franken-axles to be able to keep the xt6 spindles and Air suspension. If it holds up, then I'll keep it, if not, I'll invest in some coil-overs. If I swap to coil overs, I will also do a rear E-brake conversion. I'm still in need of a rear diff, driveshaft, and exhaust parts back of the exhaust manifold headers, as well as the engine management, which I will purchase with my next paycheck at the beginning of June. Other than that, I have everything listed above. Many more pics to come once album creation gets sorted out here on the forum.

Ahhh gotcha. I've only ever seen them referred to as D for the first gen, and then R for the second gen. I've never seen the second gen written as DR before, so I assumed you meant that they both had a unique manifold compared to the previous 6s. My bad

The flanges are the bits that actually fit up to the engine itself right? If that's the case, then I would need the opposite of what you're suggesting, wouldn't I? Because I would need the actual flanges themselves to be fitted properly to the ez30r? Not to a EJ25XXX?

If Subaru was going to produce such a vehicle, there would have to be substantial engine upgrades.... you can't have something that's shaped like a truck with a low HP engine....it just doesn't pan out well. I love the way this looks, but to produce something like this, that looks like a truck, it has to have the capabilities of a truck, meaning towing, large load capacity, and don't forget, there would have to be some sort of dual range. not because we would need it, but because potential truck buyers see that as a must. We can't forget that while we Subaru owners view all Subarus as fantastic vehicles, (Which they are!) to properly sell and market new models to potential buyers who don't already know the wonders of owning a Subaru, you have to have competitive features and capabilities. Especially with the way the car sales business is being affected by the internet. People generally only see the numbers. And in terms of towing and HP and such, the XV wouldn't even make it onto the radar. IMO this is why the Baja was discontinued. YES it looks sweet. YES it has a bed to carry small things in. but it can't tow very much, it doesn't have "truck" horsepower, and the bed is too small to put anything of significant size in. Because the Baja was attempt to edge in on the truck market while not being a proper truck, it didn't sell well, and so it was discontinued. I LOVE the way this concept looks. I'm not trying to shoot down anyone's ideas, but a project like this would require so much more than just a rear seat delete.... At the end of the day, you still have to sell vehicles to more than just your loyal customers to stay in business, and unless the vehicle can bring people into a showroom to potentially look at buying said vehicle, the parent company can't rationalize production and sale. Additionally, with the internet, people are buying vehicles much differently than they were previously. AND NUMBERS COUNT. people may not know about boxer engines, they may not know much about AWD and the differences for instance between full-time and part-time systems, heck they may not even know where Subarus are produced, but they look at the numbers, and comparable models between manufacturers, and that's why then go to various dealerships, because there are comparable vehicles, and they want to try all of the similar models to choose the one that fits best. If the numbers aren't comparable, then people never even make it into the showroom.

Are you saying that the first gen 3.0 has the same exhaust manifold as the second generation? D:R
-
I'm curious about exhaust systems (as I'm building up a fairly custom project) I'm wondering about interchangeability/ franken-setups e.t.c. I've been on car-part.com trying to find exhaust manifolds/ assemblies for the 3.0r engine. but it only gives me options for the 2.5 engine of the corresponding year...were they the same??? The engine I have that I'm building the system for is a 2007 3.0r. Is there interchangeability here? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm kind of stuck here.

I can also attest to this! I've done some business with Retroroo, and have had nothing but good experiences.

I like it! I'm jamming an STI trans into mine. I'm going 6 cyl tho, not 4 cyl turbo.

The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread

I work at a Subaru dealership, this became my new desktop background! Thanks for sharing!! -
No. Or at least I've never seen one, nor do we get any info on the GT86 at the dealership level for comparison purposes. We only get info on the FRS, and why the BRZ is better.
-
I can confirm this. The xv has towing capacity where as the impreza does not, and this is due to unibody reinforcement. In Canada the XV is rated to tow 480KG. You guys can do your imperial conversions.
-
Is this colour offered in the states? We don't get a venetian red in canada.
-
What are you looking to add? It will totally come down to what you're looking to change out. Also, tell us a bit more about the impreza that you HAVE. and PICS we love pics

What was the total quote on it? That sounds like way too long.

That is a SICK concept! I'd own one!

And this is why Numbchux is awesome! Saves me so much time and money Ok, well, I now have a number of very viable options. I'm going to go ahead and run the FT4WD until it dies. Meanwhile, I'll be gathering parts to swap to EJ trans and clutch parts.

What if I took the ej parts out of the wrx transmission and put them into the FT4WD casing? Is that do-able? Would that offer any benefits?

Have a question about the Crosstrek? Ask an owner!

It's rated to tow 480KG IIRC
