  1. subaru does make some beefier, huge straps for the CV's but these are for the WRX/STi models what model do you have? and yes, I have heard of using hose clamps in place of these bands at times... Jamie
  2. if you buy another ($60ish at a dealership) it will likely tear again in the future go get a real undercover http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/skid.htm Jamie
  3. your outback should not use a gasket, but a gasket "making" type of sealant see this thread into some insight into a potential problem: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1016573&highlight=pan you may be experiencing what I just went through Jamie
  4. an example would be, you have the key fob in your pocket, and it sets off your panic alarm or unlocks the doors without you "touching" the fob itself... Jamie
  5. you wont find 98-99 2.5rs wheels cheap. everybody wants them..... and they're damn hard to find 00-01 - 6 spoke? not nearly as in demand
  6. classifieds at : http://www.nasioc.com i've seen wrx wheels go for $200-300 with and without tires.
  7. the cruise servo could have been soaked with water wait to see if it "comes back" once the car fully dries out??? good luck, that flooding sounds horrible... Jamie
  8. You cannot cut a hole in your OEM Glass. It will shatter. It is heat treated glass and cannot be cut once formed I will post the full install soon. I have photos of the actual JDM Glass assy with the hole in it. All parts were imported off of a wrecked WRX STi in Japan Jamie
  9. 1) there are cheaper places to buy your add ons.. see: http://www.subarugenuineparts.com 2) hitch: if you really need to tow something beefy, get a non factory hitch but check your owners manual for the towing limits 3) splash guards: look good!!! and protect the rocker/rear body of the car somewhat 4) bug guard: they chip. they break. they are a pain to install and they will scuff your paint slightly. I would recommend: http://www.rockblocker.com clear guard 5) security upgrade: of course this is a good idea especially if you park on the street 6) rear window deflector will deflect/direct dust and dirt flow but personally, i prefer the painted rear spoiler same effect, looks better Jamie
  10. I've yet to wire em up but i have the correct switches, motor and relay to do so. coolest parts i've yet to install on my Impreza **more photos here** Jamie
  11. ditto. dont mess around with aftermarket bearings or in a few months, you'll probably be swapping them out yet again. perhaps this discussion will help... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=787070&highlight=wheel+bearing lots of advice and photos therein good luck Jamie
  12. i have 112k on my 2001 EJ251.... no headgasket issues. no sign of hg issues... *shrug* sorry to hear of your problems Jamie
  13. when mine was damaged (turbo fire) I found a hydraulic hose and line industrial store took the ps hose to them 15 mins later, it was like new these are pressurized lines. not something to mess with. leave it to the pros to repair (there is likely one of these specialists near you) or replace the lines with an OEM set. good luck Jamie
  14. 2.5l DOHC's are known for head gasket issues. 2.5l SOHC's are pretty solid motors. mine has 112k on it i've done nothing but reg. maintenance timing belt, water pump, seals, fluid swaps nothing out of the ordinary. so basically 2000-2001 SOHC Phase II EJ251 is what you want Jamie
  15. center of the cam cover is likely the oil pump could be the front crank seal or the oil pump o'ring to the block i'd recommend swapping these seals, timing belt, water pump, tstat and all gaskets all at the same time. it's not to terribly uncommon, seals do wear over time. Jamie
  16. my 2001 Impreza RS 5 speed has 112k Subie Gal Miles on it... and it's still going strong Jamie
  17. I do not work at Carter Subaru. I work at Chaplins Subaru in Bellevue see: http://www.subarugenuineparts.com ^^i manage that store... I USED to work at Carter and I helped restore their 360 van... Jamie
  18. #1... bad head gaskets nearly every 1998 2.5 RS i know of has suffered this fate. Jamie
  19. sure. see this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=924652&highlight=drain+plug Jamie
  20. yes that crash was really quite bad. the occupants are uninjured but the car is totalled. the stump they landed on ripped right through the bottom chassis they basically need to start over no idea if there's actual cage damage or not but Mike will need and entirely new shell at this point really strange accident i nearly think they'd have been better off if they'd just rolled.... just shows how safe these cars really are!!! Jamie
  21. happens to my WRX with anywhere from just below 1/2 tank to empty the transfer pump inside of the fuel tank cant keep up thus, hard cornering results in fuel depravation Jamie
  22. i dont know of a TSB for the tensioner but they are most certainly a "replace as is necessary" item most will replace the tensioner when they do their timing belt as a precautionary maintenance not something that HAS to be done... if your tech stated tensioner is "okay" i'd believe em.... Jamie
  23. this is hard to explain, but it caught me out before so here goes Inside rear hatch/trunk of your car there are air breather flaps built into the body (made to stablize air pressure) These 'flaps' are located in the rear quarter panels of your subaru one on either side They are hidden by your interior carpet, but trust me, they are there. well.. these flaps... when it rains or you wash your car allow for drips of water to seep in... just little bits at a time. okay so where does the water go? It drains out from the very bottom of each quarter panel. At the bottom of each quarter panel, there is a small drain plug One on each side of the car. Over years, these plugs can become clogged, and the water stops draining. I would bet, that you have water sitting on one of these side panels and that your plugs are clogged. remove your rear interior panels to inspect... very farthest sides of the chassis in the rear. My RS had over 5" of water on each side and this water then splashed up and filled the spare tire drain. Remove the plugs (from underneath the car) Clean them (soaked mine in limeaway) dry out interior, reinstall and hopefully that's all there is to it. If you need photos, etc. let me know. I will help if i can. Jamie
