  1. MOAR changes. Re-Installed the "deluxe" badge (Right) and FF-1 badge (lower left) - painted the FF badge for effect. Center badge reads "Subaru" - - Awwwww Crap. now I have to work out how to paint the rest of the badges. My hand is not that steady. Any volunteers? Finally. She has her vintage style stone guards in place! Woooot! Going to her first car show this weekend. Trying hard to get ready!
  2. very cool! thank you for the insight!! I'll be looking for that optional tach
  3. SOME UPDATES! Mid 70's Genuine Subaru tachometer that had been installed in place of the OE speaker grille. I liked the idea but liked the SUBARU logo on the original grille even more. Guess I will have to gauge my speed by feel I can do that. I'm a professional so on the hunt i went.... OE speaker grille found from an FF-1 cut in 1/2 (yes... in 1/2!!!) in a field in MN. God Bless the seller on craigslist who trusted me enough to ship it to me. I reconditioned and repainted it and now it has a new life.
  4. always needing parts! where is this poor little car located?
  5. "header" shot. the amount of detail that went into the craftsmanship involved here is staggering. they started with.... nothing. just a parts diagram as a reference and a blank canvas!
  6. yes it is my understanding the trans is no where near OE. As I understand it, it is built out of 3 different components case is from a '72 FF1 internal gears are from EA81 FWD circa 1980+ the rear housing is from that ea81 trans. I'm struggling with it a bit as Reverse is not working and it looks like I will have to remove the trans from the car to sort it out. I don't DOOOO transmissions so that will be interesting. I will start hosting some build photos and get them uploaded Been very busy and I do apologize for not keeping you all posted!
  7. This is true. so very true. I have said it too many times in the past 48 hours.... if I could be 1/2 as sweet and genuine as Ed was, I CAN AND WILL make a difference in the lives of others... and more than likely my own at the same time. What a wonderful and warm human being. I will miss him SO MUCH but do treasure every moment we had and every story he told - not matter how long winded, round-a-about to the end of the tale said story may have been - he did have a lot to share Ed, you made a difference in the lives of others, had an impact and left a mark. It is now your time to Rally in Peace my good friend.
  8. I have the F center caps.they stick out so far. not sure i like them. maybe i will put them on and see if they grow on me.
  9. Oh I am well aware massive. massive. MASSIVE SHOUT OUT LOUD to the fabricator Matt and the company he works for.... http://www.snohomishweldingandmuffler.com/ 1.5 days. from the heads to the toe..... massive job. all perfect. just fab! Such a fab job! Let me go through the work the fabricator did and I will get you all of the details and specs. Hell of a job. Took 1.5 days to complete and it is ace.
  10. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! She is off to get her 100% custom exhaust built! Down to the wire... time to choose an exhaust tip! Hmmmmmmmmmm... what will it be???
  11. Managed a little bit of progress to share Swapped the wheel studs (front) over to longer (WRX) modern wheel studs. OE studs were far too short for the wheel and spacer application currently on the car. I do love those wheels so stay they must! Looks good, 10x safer, now we can put the pedal down!!
  12. Fujiko with her buddy Boo-Boo. Small update as not much progress has been made lately. Some new issues have sprung up - won't be super simple to resolve. Transmission is non OE - all bits and pieces of various models/year Subaru. Something the previous owner was working on in order to obtain taller/different gearing. Slanting of the shift throw itself has been fixed (it was so slanted to the Right that you could not shift the vehicle with the passenger seat in place) And now that the shifter is functioning, I have learned that we have no reverse. All other gears are smooth, but this car will not go into R at all. Completely locked out. This won't be fun as I don't know much at all about the inner workings of the trans. Might be time for an expert to take a look. Need to drop the trans from the car first (not done that yet) Decided to order new re-popped vintage style 3 point seat belts for the car then realized the mounting points for the belts have been removed. Must have been filled in when the body work was completed. What to do? Re-tap? somehow? Could be scary if this is not done correctly. Still haven't figured out what to do for front/rear bumpers as the OE mounting points and brackets have been eliminated from the car. Hate to buy something that "might work" only to learn there's now way to mount it to the car. Need to get in and get an exhaust made but I'm very picky about whom it will be that will do this work. Good shops are always booked and that's making this part of the journey a bit difficult. Nobody said this would be easy. But it sure is fun
  13. I'd love to put the bumpers on but the mounting points were intentionally filled and removed from the car during the body work. I've got to come up with something non OE and a bit different. Will require some thinking.... it's on the laundry list of issues yet to be resolved
  14. beautiful day in the pacific nw... such a rare thing lately! we had to get out and enjoy it!
  15. Fixed the valve cover leak and let the hubby take her out for drive #2! I guess next up is to have the radiator repaired... then off she goes for exhaust work!
  16. yup! I found them in a bag Steve had labeled "Interior door"..... I cleaned them gently back to new. damn these things are sketchy. (fragile) uh!!! a real bitch to install! took forever to get the passenger side door card and pull installed. next up is the driver side. (I'm scared.....) many curse words. more than one beer. but dammit one side is done!! (installation is totally blind... and a real buggar!)
  17. Interior got re-did I'm getting there anyway. Still much to do. rear shelf, rebuilt out of what was literally pieces. Front door cards, totally re-done as i just could not salvage them. Rear door cards are still OE - did manage to piece those back into place. more photos soon but here's a taste!! rear shelf There is no rear upper seat. PO tossed it. i do have the bottom portion and fully intend to get it back into the car and construct a new upper portion For now - I've had the seat back rebuilt and re-covered! Front door panels. I tried. I had them re-installed on the door panels but they just could not be saved. Not enough material there to make it work. I had them totally rebuilt from scratch. Craftsman: L&R Custom Upholstery - Leif Rankin Super fast turnaround. Super reasonable pricing and... well... just LOOK!! Another little step. but we are making progress. -jamie
  18. Exhaust - I'm going to have one fully custom made. About the issues.... Currently.... there is a leak in the brake lines. There is a leak (very very very small puncture from shipping it seems) in the radiator. There is a leak in one of the valve covers. Steering column tore off one of the grounds in last nights driving adventure... have to re-work that. Want to drain all of the fluids, check for coolant in the oil, check for metal shavings, etc. Make any adjustments needed Mend/inspect that one leaky valve cover Send the radiator off for repair. Then hopefully reassemble her for good. Hopefully. Good news is there was NO SMOKE out of the exhaust and she was fully up to temp. before driving.
  19. Still a ton of work to do but had to give her a go before we tore her down again
