you really should change them at around 60k.... best for the car and your piece of mind let them go too long, and you will notice a loss of gas mileage, pull, and eventually the dreaded sputter may begin OEM wires and plugs are the best replacements. (i've not found a set of aftermarket plug wires that fit properly) the swap it's not too tough to change these just takes a little bit of time as you have to move a couple of bits out of the way http://www.scoobymods.com has a nice how to for the impreza it will be the same on your forester. shout with questions Jamie

removing the tail lights from these cars is a right PAIN i would suggest, removing the bulbs. letting it air try check for leaks/seal if you can and maybe try to scrub the inside of the tail light with a baby bottle brush or some sort of very thin , very long brush. if you remove the tail light from the housing, you break the seal you break the seal, you run the risk of leaks when you reinstall the light. hopefully this helps. even my 2002/3 wrx with heated / winter package had a timer... the rear defrost does not stay on. it's timed. when depressed, stays on for a short time then shuts itself off this defrost is / was also tied into my heated mirrors this is probably just a fluke thing. wiring/ electrical fire. glad you are okay, and sorry about your car Jamie
