Rear Swing Gate Allied Armament
SkankinPickle replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
yeah James, hella cool stuff you're puttin out. We all have many great words of gratitude in that you have taken this on. -
yeah what he said, but on second gen (EA-81) door handles you can leave them on and still have it look great. also: gas door and bracket out side window scrapers the chrome piece above the license plate and door trim if you can(be careful on this stuff) definately a big plus if you sand the surface real smooth first, them usually only do a light sanding before paint.

Rear Swing Gate Allied Armament
SkankinPickle replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
yeah, exactly what Brian said, maybe made out of metal or have some plastic pieces made to bolt on to the bumper. or on second thought take your old plastic bumper and take a hack saw or something to make a clean cut to it and use your old bumper to make end caps. Then have the bumper come with threads and the matching bolts. as for EA-81, could i send you the stock end caps from the '82 and earlier wagons as well as the ones for the EA-81 hatchback to assist in making the AA bumper fit our old cars with the stock end caps? that would be awesome! -

Question about hatches
SkankinPickle replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
rob, it's those fender mirrors (the coolest looking thing ever). the ad was sourced and assembled from none other than this very site. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/projectrudy/rudy.html (they're at the bottom) yeah, i would guess too that it's straight out of the first asian nation to industrialize. notice the euopeian model's lack of fender mirrors: -
Weak Seatbelt Recoil - Can it be fixed?
SkankinPickle replied to nickbalcombe99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
dude, you can take them a part and recoil the spring a little to regenerate it from twenty years of use. just pay special attention when you are taking it apart so you can put it back together exactly the way it came apart. ...and my drivers seatbelt still performs how it should, if not better. (speaking of EA-81 belts here) -

ea81>ea82 conversion ideas and contemplations
SkankinPickle replied to MilesFox's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
This is where the latter parts of the scientific method come into play. Wonder who is going to have the first non-brat EA-81 five-lug vehicle in north America???? -
the testing proceedures in the FSM are rather basic ones for the major read outs. Yet it let's you know exactly what wires power and which ones supply the gauge with information. hey north, i'm sending that baby out monday if you don't end up crossing the sound this weekend.

Under car cleaning leads to sudden problem
SkankinPickle replied to erikvr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my throw out bearing makes a noise like thwarping marbles. mybe some water got inbetween the engine and tranny from the timing hole up top or the metal plate down below. try pushing in the clutch and see if it still makes the noise. -
painting subie hubcaps?
SkankinPickle replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
silver? no, something different. black chrome? on silver blue, it will just drowned out the wheels and tires and make the body(of the car) stick out. how about like a pewter gold? pick that shade carefully though, it's got to blend in with the car as much as possible while at the same time saying, yeah i got a subaru(like RS's and WRX rims). -
i concur as well, the single round head lights look more in proportion to the car and give it much more character. i asked mikeW about doing this on my quad lighted wagon and that i was concerned about the switch because i didn't know how to wield nor did i have very much money to put into changing head lights that already worked. in response he said, "why let that stop you?" he then took me over to his red hatch and, as my jaw dropped(this was the first lifted subaru i had ever seen), he proceeded to show me how he cut off the old one and just bolted on the correct core support (i prefer the 80-81 core support, the best round head light grill IMO) for the single square head lights which he liked better. i would have done the switch but i got my fix by converting my hatch to round. if you're concerned about strengh you could do it this way and then later have someone tack it in place... hope this helps

A stethascope has suprised me
SkankinPickle replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
maybe the oil passages act like an echo chamber and channel a lot of the noise straight to the pump??? people have said replacing the seals on the pump help alot. it is really simple in operation. before i took mine off for the first time i would think to my self, "i don't know about this, it's connected to internal parts of the engine, maybe i shouldn't...", but a fter i got it off it was like, "well that was easy". so maybe try that. also, i remember hearing something about oil filters that have little valves in them so the oil doen't drain all the way out of the engine while the car is off. -
just something to check, i was having the same problems on my 83 wagon--thought is was the pump, then the relay, then the wire harness shorting out--turned out to be the ignition switch. it was worn out on the inside so that it only made a connection for the fuel circut if i wiggled the key just right. sounds to be most likely a F.I. or ECM problem though, good luck.

Ea81t: Help! - solid lifters???
SkankinPickle replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
got it... on the hydro motor the push rods are narrow the whole way down the rod. (from as far into the engine as you can see to the very end the rod is the same diameter) on the solid lifter motor the push rods are narrow and then have a bulge at the end of the push rod(the rocker side). i can't tell for sure from your pics but look at your rods and if there are the same diameter from the inside of your engine to the very tip you have hydro lifters. if you look at your push rods and they are narrow further in and then have a wider diamater bulge and the END OF THE PUSH ROD, then you have a solid lifter engine that might not be original or just rare. all right peace, if any questions i'll be up for another hour then i have to go to sleep. it's a little after midnight here in seattle. -
