Well, got the water pump done. Did the cam seals but i believe i missed the front main :/ i did the ones on both the cam retainers . put new timing belts in and put everything back together. now im just waiting for the dealership to call me to come pick up my new pcv hoses. should be running great after that thanks again miles for making those videos. really helped me alot and i got to learn how to do the timing and all that ! Merrry Christmas all ! -

So i got my temp sensor today and i went to oreillys. got the other temp sensor with the 1 terminal on it, an air filter, a pcv valve, plugs, wires, t-stat housing gasket. and i pulled some of my pcv hoses, the ones from both sides of the motor then connected to the plastic fittin then to the pcv valve. and they're all really hard and solid, hoses and fittings are caked with gunk. some drops of creamy colored oil actually came out of the fitting. i plan on replacing most of these hoses and some fuel lines. and cleaning all of the plastic fittings the best i can, couldnt find any to match at oreillys . anyone know where to get the hoses that come off the left and ride side of the motor ? i belive theyre the on top of the valve covers ? and is there 2 fuel filters on my car ? ( 88 gl spfi 5 sp d/r ) i replaced the one thats under the hood . i was also reading a post earlier about the fuel pump and it hearing it prime when you first turn the car on. i dont hear mine prime or click at all when i turn my car over. its been my dd for the past month ive had it . so maybe theres just fuel in the lines all the time and i dont hear it prime ? any input would be appreciated. thanks guys

I am driving an 88 Gl SPFI 5 speed D/R trans . And I'm getting like 15 mpg right now . 110 miles or so uses a half tank .

is that a pcv hose ? man i wish this thing came with a manual that'd help so much lol and ok ill look into the water pump. shouldnt be to complicated .. and i did watch one of those videos on the timing . thanks again miles. should i get oem cam seals from the dealership ? -
Ahh the rotarys. i love those so much ! i know where one sits in this guys yard a couple miles from my house. thought about talking to him about it. and there this one thats around the corner from me. idk if its still there but this one is sweet. i think he has some motor work done to it. hence all the honda and vw stickers and the spoiler lol oh and the license plate: RTRYRKT=ROTARY ROCKET

so i went out and grabbed all the receipts from previous owner ( only owned this car for a month now ) and he has receipts for t-belts and outer belts which were done at 207xxx and he did a clutch kit at 206xxx . so i dont think ill need to replace those, car has 221xxx now and t-belts last about 60,000 miles right ? Oh, and i'd be willing to pay one of you guys locally around here if you wanna help/teach me to work on my soob . im not a complete noob lol i do have some expierence, but when it comes down to taking the motor apart and resealing etc i get nervous. i dont want to mess anything up .. -

Yeah, i'd like to do a whole engine reseal and pull it out but its my daily right now .. and im not mechanically inclined to do that lol nor do i have a engine hoist. i have the money to put into the car just not the knowledge . im gonna start by wiping down the whole motor today, check out the water pump and hoses as you mentioned cause i noticed some coolant down there too .. my first thought was a HG when i seen that but my oil isn't creamy nor is my coolant in my radiator .. -
so ive got some money saved up and i just got a paycheck. and i want to fix the oil leaks on my soob. it looks like it drips a decent amount but i dont have to add much often lol if that makes sense, im not too familiar with these motors either so i took some pics hoping some of you guys could help me out . right side of motor, looks like some could come from that hose ? front of motor/oil pan im gonna go under there and clean the motor up tonight or tomorrow morning . so that should help too

so if ive got a 15 gallon tank and im using a half tank to go 110 miles im getting like 15 mpg !!! my temp sensor should arrive tomorrow. and i looked at the old one and its all green and coroded. hopefully i dont need to replace any of the wire that leads to the green connection piece. any ideas on how i can get some better mpg ?! the motor leaks a decent amount of oil to, could that have anything to do with it ?

Yeah I believe ya now lol filled up the other day as my light was coming on an off . Put 40 in got about 11.9 gallons and I still had room for another 5 bucks probably. So yeah a 15 gallon tank sounds right lol . Clutch is still new and stiff, has like 13k on it . And I'll be checking for vacuum hoses here soon. All tires are set at about 32psi .

yeah, the dl was an 87 . and it had the round black plug. and yeah, see i had a feeling you could only put about 12 gallons in there. but like milesfox said, there about 2.5 gallons left when the light comes on. so 14.5 gallon tank lol ?

well, i ended up getting a new grill from an 87 dl. and i got my pass side trim piece and a gas cap from a legacy ! they had a wagon but it was carbed. and i believe it was the dl that was spfi but the engine temp sensor looked different the plastic piece was black and bigger but still had two wires going to it, i didnt grab it. and the other sedans motor was gone.

yep just called them and they got 3 of em that are "compatible" with my 88 LOL gonna grab all the temp sensors, a gas cap ( lost mine the other morning after i put some seafoam in my tank :/ ) a blinker lens and a pass. side trim piece. maybe some other stuff too

yeah i called napa over here and they got one for 109 and oreillys does the lowest price match thing . and What ?! 99 cents at a junk yard lol i gotta go to one anyways so i might have to check that out .

Oh and another, it idles really weird. in the morning it starts up gets to 1100 and then drops down an dies. start it back up, same thing. so 3rd or 4th time i keep on the gas for 30 sec or so and slowly drop it down and it will stay idling at like 6-700. but if i have the defrost in the morning, it just kills the car. have to wait to turn that on. but after ive been driving for awhile and i come to a stoplight or get off the freeway it idles at like 12-1500, sometimes higher. but again if i turn the heat or defrost on. the idle jumps up. instead of down like in the morning. so could that be eating more gas also ?

i honestly dont think my tank is that big. i pay 3.40 a gallon and 35-40 bucks fills it up. so maybe a 12 ? i use about half a tank a day and im driving to the mtns so im going up some hills here and there too . and yes the yellow fuel light has came on, which usually means about a gallon or so left in the tank right ?

so i drive a 110 miles round trip a day for work. and im getting 22 mpg seems really low. im spending about 20 a day to get to work and back. and i believe i have a 10 gallon tank ? just got a new cat put on, cleaned maf and plugged back in the o2 sensor. new fuel filter. im driving at freeway speeds between 60 and 75. can i anybody give me some ideas on what to do ? it also doesnt want to stay started in the morning, i have to keep it revved at 3000 for a bit. then it idles low until it warms up. timing off a tooth ?

So I ended up taking it to the shop, found out I had a bad cat and it was hollow MAF was also really dirty and the o2 sensor was unplugged, which was why my check engine light was on . It passed emissions great this time ! Idles a little high still, had to turn defrost on blast at emissions place to pass .. Any ideas on how to bring that down or is it normal ? Sometimes after I've been driving and its warmed when I go to start it again the rpm needle bounces up and down for a bit between 1000-1500 ...
