ahh alright. thanks for the info guys !

An OBDII is pretty much what the emissions shops do when you fail emissions right ? I failed emissions yesterday and would rather figure out the problem myself for cheaper than go pay a shop 150 to tell me what's wrong ...
-
Thanks edrach. These forums are SO helpful . And yeah I called them last week but they didn't have any. Gonna call them again soon . And hey do you know if that emissions guy you mentioned in another post is still in business. The wagon failed emissions yesterday :/ don't really want to go spend the min. 150 at a shop for them to tell me nothing . Thanks !

Skylar replied to Dark Solar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i know this is an old post but by engine coolant sensor do you guys mean thermostat ? i have an 88 wagon with spfi that failed emissions yesterday. dont really wanna pay the 150 at a shop but i probably will have to. Hc limit was 220, emissions was 390. Co limit; 1.2. idle emissions; 5.24 any info would help. thanks ! -
Sounds good !

lol thanks ! i actually just sold that rack :/ i kinda wish i didnt but i needed money for a snowboard rack, which i got . and i actually do need some hands on help. i'd like to fix the oil leaks on this thing, im gonna be driving it alot this winter ... and if ya got any spare drivers side blinker lens for the bumper for sale I'd be interested in purchasing one. thanks !
-
Yep I do love those simple fixes Shouldn't it idle a littler higher and for a little longer though first thing in the morning ?
-
Well, I feel like a fool LOL put that hose back on and the clamp and it fired up went to 1200 rpms then dropped back down to like 700 but it didn't die! Stayed there and idled fine
-
Lol well I thought mine was carbed . I won't do a weber anymore I guess I'll just have to figure out what's wrong with my choke . And what is that hose for ?
-
Nice ! I've been thinking about doing a weber swap ..

Thanks ! I actually got really lucky when i found this, it was an old ladys before i bought it. Had 66k and was 100% stock. Except she painted it baby blue so i had it painted back to match the paint on the interior .And yep based off a Mazda and made by them but from 77-82 some had the Mazda 2.0l and some had the ford 2.3l (pinto) motor . Very fun little trucks . And darkforestcreature.com is actually Ford Courier Collector.com which is a forum I am apart of I'll post a link here soon of a member who has a full thread about one of those electric couriers . They also made about 1500 factory 4x4's that are called sasquatchs .
-
Lucky ! And yours is carbed ?
-
^ yeah that's how I thought an electric choke work but mine don't do that :/ I wish it was that easy lol I gotta let my soon warm up for a good 15 minutes ...
-
Ah ok. Any ideas on why it doesn't want to idle in the morning ?
-
So this whole setup is fuel injected ? Everything says Hitachi on it ... Which is a carb right ? And I didn't see any hoses unplugged, this looks like it's missing a hose though And I forgot to mention that it works fine after I've driven it for 20 minutes or so . Like if I go to the store and go to start it back up it it revs up to 2000 on its own, stays there for a sec then drop back down to 1000 and idles fine.

Here are some pics of my soob everyone ! The night i brought it home: Day after: And how it sits today: Since i've had it i've found a matching stock rim for the front, brand new all season tires. Replaced the oil/filter, trans fluid, fuel filter. reverse light and a fog light. If anybody has a drivers side blinker lens for the bumper for sale let me know! its the only other thing that needs fixed besides oil leaks and choke work :/
-
Have not checked for vacuum leaks but will do that now. and is spfi mean fuel injection ? im pretty sure i have a carb though ...

hi i just bought an 88 wagon with spfi i believe. and my factory choke has crapped out on me i think. i live in wa and its in the 30's in the morning. so when i go to start her up in the morning it starts up fine, gets to about 1200rpms and then drops back down and dies . does this everytime so i have to give it some gas and let it rev at 2000 for a bit then i let off and it kinda wants to die but idles at 500 for a bit then slowly idles higher as it gets warmer ... any ideas would help. thanks
-
Man im sure glad i found this forum. I just bought an 88 wagon with 220k, leaks a decent amount of oil and has a nice tick first thing in the morning. until it warms up for a good 15 minutes or so then it goes away. i was thinking about doing the oil pump and seals and the cam seals or O rings you guys were mentioning and hopefully that helps a bit. Any idea on how much a shop would charge ? im not too mechanically inclined. nor do i have an engine hoist or anything like that :/
-
Heres how it sits now.
-
How do you rotate it ? I'm not too mechanically inclined :/ and I don't want to ruin anything on the motor . Is it hard to get it back to the right position.
-
so bad news is my timing is off. i watched that video on youtube. when i put the rotor on, its not facing towards the master cylinder. its facing down towards the front of the car :/
-
So i didnt even see those last 2 sentences about the screw holding rotor in place until now LOL when i popped the cap off yesterday there was a small screw just laying there. and i just went out there and my rotor turns freely so im pretty sure that screw is the one that holds it in place. thanks for your help !
