No Horn/Hazards/Clock- Blows Fuse. Ea81
Skylar replied to Skylar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for that tip Cougar, I'll keep that in mind. Just pulled off my cluster surrounding with the wiper knobs etc. unplugged the wires that connected to it & the ones from the ignition. My problem was with this green plug, it runs to the little black piece under the ignition. I unplugged it, stuck a fuse in and beep beep ! My horn works but when I plug those green connectors in, it pops the fuse. What's this green connector for ? Or do ? -
I agree with Rob, I'm a little dumbfounded at the fact that someone or some people just hauled off 4 of your cars ... Are they out to get ya for personal reasons ? Or do you think it's tweekers trying to make some quick scrap money !? Regardless, that's still not fair & it saddens me. if that were to happen to my cars I'd be going on a man hunt !!

No Horn/Hazards/Clock- Blows Fuse. Ea81
Skylar replied to Skylar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I did that to both of the horn plugs already. Didn't change anything. I'm thinking about unplugging everything in the harness & plugging em back in to see if it'll reset anything lol -
No Horn/Hazards/Clock- Blows Fuse. Ea81
Skylar replied to Skylar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well I'm glad you guys got your horn situation figured out ! I unplugged the turn signal switch & the ignition one & it still pops a fuse every time I go to put one in. Anyone know why I would be getting so many amps to that fuse ?? -
No Horn/Hazards/Clock- Blows Fuse. Ea81
Skylar replied to Skylar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just got done checking with a meter. And the horn didn't work when I got it, so the first place I went was the fuses & there wasn't one. Stuck one in & it blew. I also stuck a 20 amp fuse in & it blew that too. So I stopped messing with it until now ... -

I checked my fuse box with a multimeter just now, I'm getting 13v where the horn/hazard fuse would go & I'm getting over 20 amps, it gave me an error code when I tested it set at 20 amp. -

Ok, how would I find a short ? And on the back of the fuse box there's a green wire & a white wire with a black stripe going to the slots for the horn/hazard/clock & the plug on the horn under the hood has two green wires going to it. One with a black stipe -
ea81 OIL PAN REMOVAL AND INSTALL HELP

10mm all the way ... I put a deep 10 on my Craftsman electric impact gun, easiest removal ever . -
Car is an '86 4wd hatch . The horn hasn't worked since i bought it 2-3 months ago . Every time I go to put a fuse in, it blows & I get a nice little shower of sparks. I swapped the original wheel to a 4 spoke but I don't think that would have anything to do with it ... The clock works, but resets to 1:00 every time the car is started . I found the yellow wire with the female bullet connector on it which I believe is for the clock memory . But I'm more worried about having a horn & hazards at the moment ... Anyone got any ideas ? This is my first ea81 so I'm not quite familiar yet ...

Nice wagon ! And calmasters !! If you end up needing a new rear hatch I have one in that color I'd let go for cheap as I need to clear out parts because I'm moving. I also have a bunch of chrome factory roof racks for ea81s that I don't need.

FINALLY got rid of the hesitation/stumble. It was the plug wires, I didn't change em when I did a tune up. Bought some NGKs & a new electric choke. Now I don't have to wait forever to drive in the morning & it drives smooth. I put a slant console & a different shift knob in it. & wired up a pioneer stereo & speakers. I believe the speakers are 3.5" maybe 4. Just slightly bigger than the stock ones in the back . Also wired my fan up to a toggle switch .... Here's some pics from WCSS as well. Plaid interior out of a wagon

Old Gen Caravan to WCSS?

I think I may be jumping on this here band wagon, if i can find a buddy to roll along with. I'm gonna do a couple of things to my hatch, but I'm sure she's road trip ready ! I'm not far from the Tacoma mall at all, ill be in a blue '86 Hatchback. I don't have an FRS radio but I may just wire up my Cb for the weekend. -
I feel like you're better off just buying a new windshield & saving your time & effort. A couple months back I got a brand new windshield installed on my 88 Gl for $187 with a lifetime warranty, all new chrome trim around the windshield & they put on new wipers. I don't really think you can beat that lol ..... I went to Safelite auto glass ..... And no my insurance didn't cover any of that .

So I picked up this 86 hatchback a couple weeks ago, got it running & have been tinkering with it. Anyways, it has this black box mounted on the passenger side fire wall. I believe the red wire went to the + on the battery. The rest was soldered together, the blue wire from the box to a red wire on a toggle switch & a thick black wire that ended up going to nothing .... Anyone have any clue as to what this could be for ? A relay ? Alarm ? It has no lettering or anything on it so I can't look it up online, I just took it out of my car as its obviously not for anything .... Pulled out the black wire to find it not connected to anything I also have this yellow wire that spliced under neath my carpet in the back, right along the tranny tunnel Car is an ea81 '86 hatch back

Thanks man . Everything's been smooth so far, besides this weber. I don't think it's tuned right, it runs & drives but has a slight stall/hesitation in the higher rpms ..... Yeah I'm not sure what that box is for either but it's about to get ripped out ...

Been DDing the hatch for the past couple days, runs & starts good. But still has a slight stutter/hesitation in the top end. Anyways I seafoamed it, it ran better. Next day, still has hesitation. It had been sitting for 2 years when I got it, fuel filter had nasty orange rusty gas in it so I replaced that. Then replaced that one with another new one, still getting nasty orange stuff in it, I already drained the tank & burned through the premium I put in & then some .. After we seafoamed it the other day I threw on a filter from my SPFI ea82 motor, works fine. Was doing a rear cv yesterday, gave it a bath, threw on some center caps etc etc. just buttoning stuff up fixing small things. Well while I was under the car I noticed a filter by the pump, totally spaced that carb models have filters by the pump .... Well, I guess I found out where my orange nasty stuff is coming from ..... Gas also isn't supposed to be this color :/ So I'm gonna replace that filter, put some more gas in it & possibly replace most of the rubber lines down there ..... I'm thinking a new gas tank may be one of the things to put on the list ...

Can anybody tell me what this black box is for mounted on the passenger side firewall . And what that red wire might be on the right, the one soldered together to the blue going to the box . That red wire goes into the firewall & is tied into a toggle switch for something. No idea what for ..... I'm also having a problem with the fuse for the hazards/horn. It keeps blowing a fuse each time I go to put one in. I checked out the other fuses & found some 10amp fuses where some 15amp fuses should've been, replaced those & the blown fuse for the rear defrost.

Got any pictures of your electric choke & where it's wires into By chance ? I just picked up an 86 hatch & had to rebuild the weber because it was siting for years . Got it running & idling but I'm still playing with mixture & idle screws trying to get it to run proper. My choke was also not hooked up when I got it .......

Yeah what he said. I think a push bar would look good on my hatch. I missed the one you just had for sale. Solid looking motor by the way man. That things crisp. Brats looking good as well.

Oh sorry guys, Rob painted those . Should I tell em how you also screwed up my ....... Just kidding ... Lol To be honest, they're kinda rare down here as well. I've seen 3-4 other hatches since I've started driving subarus about 2 years ago. One was actually a blue hatch just like mine in the Arlington PNP
