Scott -it was great meeting you, the car couldn't have found a better new home! I Can't wait to see what you do with her
-
Nice -saw that one but I was too slow!

Like those wheels! What are they exactly?
-
Very Cool!!

I was really referring to the 'pre-branded' stuff, which is really the same as samsung, sanyo...etc. Got one last year online w/win8, android, 8G, for ~$70. The wifi is a little weak, the power supply cheapo, but mostly a good unit. I like the idea of mp3's in the car, and the gps & performance apps. Right now I'm running my little mp3 player (that has a radio) into the cassette adapter -which is awesome!

My gas mileage seems unrealistic....

That sounds great! How is your Weber jetted? -
I'm over the stock radio. Kind of want a clock, good tuner,... mp3 port, card player would be nice. I like knobs but they can be knuckle biters with the stick shift, and except high-end stuff, they all feel cheap. Been looking at some double din, touch screen stuff, there's room for gps...OR a tablet install would give me all that plus some apps & wifi where available. Real cheap from China. Just not sure if they can take the abuse. Anyone tried this or care to debate it?

Skid plates and armor!?
rrgrr replied to Quinny92loyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just realized mine was missing the other night and was considering getting one. Is it more trouble than it's worth? I have done little off-roading (yet) and am only lifted 2", but I intend to get out a bit. -
Thank you for helping me try to understand this. I think I have determined that red/white is not grounded. I followed it, but It goes into that harness and I don't want to get into that much if I don't have to -Can I just cut it and ground it elsewhere?

Almost ready for paint, but first some fun!

Thanks Miles, I went back and reviewed your video and there are good shots of the engine bay, it looks very much like what I got mixed. I touched up my engine bay with it as well and it looks fine in there, but I sure don't want the whole car that color. This original is a Good Brown -all the new brown cars I've seen (there are a few) even subys -look poopy to me.
-
Love a good burgundy/maroon -actually first choice, just not sure with the brown inside...I'd like to see one. The local PPG shop did mix me 2 cans to spray the door supposedly to 569, but it is Way red, looks terrible. If they can't accurately sample from the car, and show me, I don't know...Here's what I got from a "real auto paint shop"

So how much of that 1 1/4" can you use without binding the control arms? Doesn't that happen at a point? If I can bump it ~3/8" I think I'll be okay. Think I'll try the washers first, and run the threads out a bit. This is only up 2" on ~26"s -seems like they should clear w/o cutting flaps or bashing fenders.
-
I'm replacing my strut rod bushings, the wheels seem to be pulling back and forward a bit with a hard turn and power, causing a slight rub on the tires when I do that. I need to gain some clearance behind the tires. I'd kind of like to stack some washers on the front side to gain that, seen some do that. I'm unsure what I can get away with and not bind the control arm bushings. Do you tighten them just enough to seat the bushings count threads on the ends and match them side to side take measurements and correct alignment using these/tie rods Some or all of the above? The old SR bushings show about 4 threads past the nut. If I put the new one in the same place, it is just snug. I guess I have about 1/4" to gain with washers, that would fix it. TIA

Carter-Weber Help Needed
rrgrr replied to soobenthusiast's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hmmm, where were you when I needed you? -
Found the best crappy hood I could, wasn't much to choose from. Swapping all 4 doors, figured might as well match the fronts, back had a touch of cancer, too. They were reasonably cheap, I feel a little sick about unbuilding this thing, they are never the same...Taking her to Maaco after New Years, the ugliness is out of hand. I have grown to like the Brown, but the PPG shop match was terrible, and I'm skeptical about anyone getting it right. A Bad Brown is going to bum me out. They probably won't do door jambs, etc, Nothing really goes with the brown interior, either. I could live with Black, and do the details later myself...Please if you are reading this thread, tell me what you think! Wifey wants me to rename the car Schleprock, due to all the lousy luck it's had!
