  1. Changing strut rod bushings, getting a little rub on hard turns under power, hope this helps. Also ordered inner tie rods, don't know if I need them, still trying to firm up front end. Figured might as well replace everything, it's old. Having a bit of "shipwright's disease" Alignment is kind of a mess now. Hotwired 2nd fan, worked for a while, -now it sounds like an elephant. Something's rubbing or it's toast. Heater parts, thermoswitch, etc. on the way. Destroyed my hood when it came open ~40mph Yay. Working on the grille, thought it was latched & went for a quick ride, BAM! Didn't bust my windshield, didn't crash. Going to go get the other 86 doors anyway, so my mirrors match, and mine have a touch of rust...the paint job is on the horizon.
  2. Thanks Again, G! Fortunately the old wiper switch works, so maybe we can keep that in the swap.
  3. A nearby wagon's heater controls & fan switch were mangled by the PO and we can only find the later style with changed fan switch/wiper controls. Does anyone know if/how I can swap the later set in, if there are complications in said procedure?
  4. Thanks, guys. Clearly I do not understand these relays, I'll run some tests and see what I come up with. I seem to have some other gremlins, as well...
  5. Fuel supply got all wonky like no gas getting to carb. Went thru the wringer w/the auto parts momos, trying to get a good fuel pump. Got running just in time for the snow, poorly, with no heat but got in some tasty donuts & drifting ...worked on cold start, choke, in short bursts, could only stay unfrozen a few minutes at a time. Carb was funky, so I rebuilt it -twice. The acc pump tore on the first one, took me awhile to figure out. In my vacuum leak hunting, All the old hoses and ports pretty much snapped off or cracked in the cold. The Hitachi schooled me for a week. Would not run under load -out of gas condition. Worked float, vac routing, tried everything... The day After I ordered the new Weber, I got it figured out. (I don't give up) The secondary diaphragm tube goes on the wall of shame with a crack on the inside bend. Put all that goofy stuff back on minus the afterburner, w/new rubber, spfi egr, running the old fuel pump(better fit, pumps better) She is rockin' now! Just need a little tweaking. I will run this Hitachi as long as as it's efficient.
  6. After days (weeks?) of trying to sort this hitachi in the freezing while every brittle fitting snapped off, two rebuild kits, and trying to remap all the vac lines/ports, testing resulting in a series of stalls, limping home thru the neighborhood and a tapestry of obscenities, -I broke down and ordered the Weber, it should be here tomorrow. kind of disappointed cause I'd like to get the few more mpgs I know I can with the hitachi, (as dreamy as a new weber sounds). Today I discovered the problem was the little tube connecting the secondary throttle diaphragm had a crack where I didn't see it. I'm calling it a Win Still not crazy about all the emissions stuff, but i understand a lot more of it now.
  7. The new relay made no difference. The jumped wires on the relay socket are green/white and blue/red. They are the copper slots, the other 2 ground. Makes no difference whether the key is on or not, it's hot. It runs at speeds 3&4, and turns off. I can live with this jumper but I don't know why it works. Still trying to understand why this thing is getting power with the key off.
  8. The rebuild kit is easy. Just make sure all your lines/hoses go back where they came from and are in good shape. Remove every jet and spray clear with carb cleaner, blow it thru the ports, too. Keep it clean.
  9. looking for a surrogate buyer out west...

  10. Looks like you're about to get pulled over! What is on top of his bumper? they look like headlight squirters
  11. I am looking for how to plumb the DCZ328 on my 85 ea82 similarly. If anyone has pics or diagrams for this setup it would help greatly.
  12. Thanks guys, exactly what I needed. I jumped the relay location grn/white to blue and got 3&4 fan speeds; ordered the new relay from napa.

  14. It's the 85 EA82. I might have the wires switched I cobbled a harness for the blower and clipped to it, it's a (hot) mess.
  15. Something (probably me) killed power to my heater blower -the fan fuse was blown, and when I replaced it, nothing. I've hotwired a battery on the pass side floor to run it. If someone could describe the circuit path of this thing it might save me some digging. The 2 wires on the blower are green/white(grnd) and blue(+). Do they come from the fan speed knob?
  16. Fuel pump swap, then had re-rebuild the hitachi, & still having choke issues, egr ?, afterburner had to go -was full of crud. EGR light came on, swapped ground plugs @ fuse box to make it go away. Running just in time for the snow and ice storm but bonus: Now the heater blower is not getting power! Kind of taking the fun out of it! The thermoswitch or something is wrong w/the cooling fan, too. I wish someone would come take this rag top out of here-I need my garage! Finger is on the trigger for a Weber swap, got the Hitachi blues, giving it one more chance, deleting extra stuff....
