  4. the fan wasn't coming on so I replaced the dohickey on the rad. with one fron O'cheapy's. It's working now, but seems to come on right away -even before the thermostat's open. Does anyone know where I can get the right one or at what temp it is s'posed to open?

  6. Here's what's happening with the 83 convertible i picked up since i got her home and dried out: put new windows in the top -the cheap way, and swapped out the Carter for a Weber, have a look- Here's a link to some before and afters: http://s802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/rrgrr/83%20GL%20Vert/
  7. So I got my Weber together, and am dialing it in... I am getting ready to cut and close the metal tubes going to the asv plastic jobbies, and be rid of all the associated junk. Please help me out with any tips on this -if there is a hard way I am probably at it. I am also removing the cannister up front and whatever else I can do to clean up the engine bay. If anyone has pics of a tidy setup I would be grateful to see them. I am short afew details... Any help is appreciated here's the now
  8. Hey guys, i am new to the forum, but old to subies. EA81's are my thing. just got my third-it is the 83 convertible from louiville. 86K -oh, and the leather is corinthian. about me: previously had an 83 wagon -which I drove for ~10 years, then an 88 hatch -which i drove mercilessly for 10 years also. 5 yrs i been missin 'em. Larry Owens' book sort of helped change my perspective back in the day...Also i am with the carb camp and have done many varieties. anyhoo, i just finished the ghetto fab resto of the plastic windows, and am getting the Weber swap lined out. great little runner and the car gets some looks! seeking threads on engine bay cleanup/what to do with silencer junk, etc. at the moment. i'll put up some pics here in a bit... Happy New Year! -R
  9. Thanks again. That will get me there. I have stripped everything except the 'silencer' box and assy- do I need any of that suff? Have you any tips on cleaning up the engine bay?

    TIA

  10. Merry Xmas, Tom, and thanks for your help.

I agree the matching is lousy either way w/the kit.

Anyway She is running like a top now! Maybe you could help me on a couple other things: -the Carter rig had a wiring harness which I have the tail for now, but nowhere for it to go. I have the temp sender, but the fan doesn't kick on now and I am not sure how to wire the Weber choke...

    Thanks again,

  11. Hello, I am super new here but wanted to let you know I just did this weber swap on an ea81 and an old post of yours really helped me out. You stated that you setup 180* opposite the norm -have you had any issues w/the setup? I went this way and the linkage is better but the shape of the intake vs the carb has me wondering if that will be signifigant... maybe you could drop me a line- thanks in advance
