Ok I have an idea... The same guy has a 01 Outback that will need a timing belt soon. I think I will get the kit and try the belt and tensioners on the Foz and see what happens. If it runs, I'll go ahead and do the wp, etc., If not, (and He wants to cut his losses) -I can put the kit on the Outback instead. Does this sound feasible?

Thanks for the replies! It is still here, should have kept a belt from one, I've done a couple. I am struggling to ask my friend to buy a belt and roll the dice, on what might be a bust. And he insists on paying me. He has an OB that is going to need one, maybe if the Foz is bent, I can use the belt on that. Don't think he wants to drop a bunch of cash buying heads, or valves in this high mileage car -although the rest of it is in fair shape. Any advice here would help -I don't know if I'm up for the tear down...

A friend brought me this 99 Forester with 200K+ miles after it died with a bang. It turned over too easy and no racket or fluids spilled or mixed. Pulled the timing belt covers and the belt is nearly toothless -nothing is turning except the crank. It seems to have compression on whatever cycle the cams are currently. Is it worth putting a belt on and seeing if it will run, or should I assume it needs valves or it's toast?

1985 Wagon Gold Mining Trip Ends With 106 Mile Tow

No, the coils were fine. Did you break a coil? I have loaded these cars (not wheeling) quite a bit and never thought the coils were insufficient, YMMV. I found the Boss kit here on the forum -it is very nice if you can find one.- 34 replies

1985 Wagon Gold Mining Trip Ends With 106 Mile Tow

My experience: The 2" lift is very simple, and so far I've had no axle problems, etc. Did not drop xmember, diff, extend linkage, or anything else. Running 26" tires on redrilled wheels (nissan). The ride is much better than stock, and on new stock spec KYB shocks, plenty stiff. Great improvement for not much work/$. I did clearance the front just a touch (hammer) due to slight rub in tight turning. The only downside I've noticed is the speedo discrepancy. Would like to get the adjustable front shocks for just a little more room in the front. I do not have power steering, don't know how that might be affected.- 34 replies

Thanks for that info. I think I'm gonna pass this one to a shop with the needed press. If I get into it and have problems I don't think it will help anyone, and just end up a pain and a day killer. The press is too spendy for a one time job on someone else's car. Thanks again for saving me the trouble

Please if this is stupid, spare me the ridicule I am chasing noises in this 03 (bearing, maybe) -When I raise the rear wheel, it doesn't spin free -like the car is in gear,- but it is in neutral and the p brake is free.Same either side. It seems to drive and coast okay except for the noises. How could this be?

^^I like those too, but I would change the 4X4 font to match 80's Subaru style. Maybe "4WD" Hopefully the wheels got more lugs! -

Building my own EA82 brat

Not a brat guy, but I like this. My convertible had square rails welded to the subframe underneath the length between the front and rear wheels to make up rigidity. Very solid car with the top cut off, no pillars- seems like that would work well for this. -
