  1. That sounds a hell of a lot like a stuck hydraulic lash adjuster. i had the same problem....I took off my valve cover, found the stuck one (just push on 'em) tapped mine with a rubber mallet and voila!
  2. DUDE! Learn from that one...jack stands are CHEAP too! I'm betting your rotor is out of round....probably rubbing on the back or has a nice warp in it now....cheap fix if it can be surfaced....any tire place should be able to tell you gratis...
  3. Okay, don't gang up on me, but I've seen several threads since I showed up here extolling the RX. Why? What makes the RX so desireable?
  4. Since it's out of the car, just grind the head off...the bolt will slide right out then (worked for me)
  5. That does help....sounds like if you get a good front cat and adapt the flanges you should be able to eliminate the rear....have to get a quote...
  6. Okay don't flog me, I know this gets asked a lot but when I used 'search' I didn't find a comprehensive list. I have a '90 Legacy. What wheels can I swap for. Other Subaru wheels will all pretty much work right? Pugeout (any limitations?) I've heard tires off Toyota trucks...years? more?
  7. Well, to begin with I'm in Washington, my car get's nothing but Chevron gas and it's a '90 Legacy Wagon. The price of a cat is no big deal. You can get Magnaflow universal cats off ebay for like $70. any opinions on if this will work?
  8. I noticed that my muffler is developing some cancer....that doesn't bode well for the rest of my piping hidden away in that shrouding. I recently had the headers off so I know they are in decent shape. Soooo....I was thinking of replacing the cats while I'm at it back to the tail pipe (I have over 200K so I figure they can't be very clear either). Can anyone tell me if there is anything keeping me from replacing the two cats under there with one high-flow cat? Where are the 02 sensors? Thanks.
  9. again...I've never seen a Subaru ad that touted it's "straight line" capability. Have an example? Every car that is sporty in any way has it's 0-60 times published. Read a car review in any mag however stoic and see if it isn't there. As far as Subaru changing the times, I think that is a red herring. They changed the US spec plans several times before the car appeared stateside...that isn't suprising, we'd been waiting for this car for a decade.
  10. I have never seen the WRX advertised as a drag racer. The 0-60 times of just about every car is published. The WRX got so much press because it was so suprising out of a Subaru. I HAVE seen ads of the WRX and it's rally roots, but I have never seen a Subaru supported article, advertisment or picture of the WRX drag racing
  11. Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary One entry found for trebuchet. Main Entry: treb·u·chet Pronunciation: "tre-by&-'shet, -b&-, -'chet Variant(s): or treb·uc·ket /"tre-b&-'ket/ Function: noun Etymology: Middle English trebochet, from Middle French trebuchet : a medieval military engine for hurling heavy missiles (as rocks)
  12. not the same thing I was talking about but I bow before Keith's obviously superior knowledge.
  13. oh yeah...I didn't have mine rebuilt, I just bought a low miles one and had it put it...it ran me about 1K
  14. nope...I had a thrust bearing that was going out...you wouldn't hear it until I gave it some gas...anytime the car was under power....when I coasted it went away. I had the local subie dealer diagnose the sound and thrust bearing was what they came up with....I drove it that way for two years...no prob other then the noise...it isn't so much a bearing after all as a metal spacer.....I finally replaced the tranny only after the noise got MUCH louder and I experienced my first mis-shift.
  15. first check the vacuum hoses to the pcv, to the throttle body and the IAC, make sure the PCV is okay (check for vacuum with car running), I've been advised on this site to spray brake cleaner into the lower hose connection. Also maybe use a volt tester and check power to the pins of the IAC I'm betting vacuum issue.....
  16. Oh...THAT's where I left it!! This "whirring"...is it more or a rattle that sounds like it's turning or more of a grinding? I'm thinking thrust bearing/spacer
  17. okay, I'll give you $12 for it....pure profit for you baby!
  18. I just might be the first person in the NW to do this mod (I'll let my Seattle brethren know how it goes). I'll have to show my wife. We have this pattern where I come home wanting to mod one of our cars or turbo-charge something or buy another car....her job is to tell me 'no' (normally). This is cheap enough though....
  19. Holy crap that is cool!!!!! My dogs would freak! Thanks for showing!
