  1. These are a fairly common (and highly desirable) wheel choice for 4x140 subarus. I have them on my BRAT. The only word of caution that I'd give is to be 100% certain that they are 15 inch, NOT 390mm. These wheels came in both sizes and 390mm tires are non-existent. These use pretty unique lug nuts, also. There are many threads about Peugeot wheels on this forum, but they're often called "pugs" for short.
  2. Bummer. I bought that alternator from Advance Auto like 5 years ago. I would hope that I could expect it to last longer than that.
  3. 1984 BRAT. EA81. 5 Speed D/R. Tall center console from a wagon. The only modification to the wiring is a relay added into the starting circuit about 2 years ago to fix intermittent no-starts. This part probably isn't entirely relevant as I think the timing was likely a coincidence, but just to be thorough, here's what was going on when the lights came on: I've been doing some tree removals on my property and yesterday I was using the BRAT to drag the trunks of some pine trees across the yard in 4lo. There is a very steep embankment about 8 feet high that I was going up and over. Steep enough that even with a little bit of a run at it to build momentum, I was spinning tires a little in dry dirt to get up and over. It wasn't the roughest driving in the world, but not a trip around the block either. On one of my rides up the embankment, the dash suddenly lit up. AT Oil Temp, Brake Fluid, Stop Lamp, Rear DS Door. I find this very surprising because I don't have an automatic transmission or rear door, and my brake fluid and stop lamps seem to be just fine. I drove the car a short distance yesterday and noticed that the volt meter on the dash reads very low, but holds steady, my headlights are extremely dim, and the power steering is whining very loudly. Engine was running fine. The power steering might be a separate issue, but figured I'd include all the facts. Is this a dying alternator? Did something come unplugged? Bad ground somewhere? I haven't had a chance to investigate very far yet, so feel free to give me a head start.
  4. Just replace the trans. The 4EAT is a good transmission and I think your odds of finding a good one are WAY higher than finding a bad one. Just go to a junkyard with a 30-60 day guarantee. I don't know about where you live, but here I can get a transmission for less than $300 with a guarantee. Rebuilds are more expensive than just getting a replacement trans. Keep it or not is up to you, but I'd replace the trans either way. If you do decide to sell the car, you'll get way more for it if it drives right and doesn't shake.
  5. I'm with you now. Thanks for being a good sport. I was only joking!
  6. I changed the timing belt on the Honda this weekend. What a pain! I spent more hours with my head in a fender than I ever care to again! Timing belts are never fun, but on a Subaru, at least you get to stand up most of the time.
  7. Unless you drop your subframes, you don't need a longer steering joint at all. If you do drop the subframes, the steering joint that you need will depend upon how far you drop.
  8. I've had no problem fitting a 185/70/13 fully inflated under the hood. Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. I think you read my original post a little too quickly!
  9. My lifted brat is running 205/70-15 tires and the factory spare is way too small to use if I get a flat. Though, it occurs to me that the little OEM donut spare from under the hood is on a temporary rated 15 inch rim. Has anyone tried to mount a normal tire on one of these? I just want to be able to have a full diameter spare, not something to run long-term. I'm afraid that the sidewalls will bubble out too far. Thanks for any input!
  10. This project is wild. I love it.
  11. Yep that is buried in here somewhere. We'll definitely have to meet up. Maybe we can coordinate something this summer. I still find it funny that I've had countless online interactions with you and even bought a car from you, but we have yet to meet in person.
  12. I'm really glad that you put those wheels on your Forester. I love those wheels and have considered putting them on my SG, but after seeing yours, I'll pass. They look a little too small, in my opinion. Handsome car all around, though!
  13. Carfreak, I have to assume that I know which car you're talking about. I'll PM you some good info.
  14. It certainly isn't perfect as a camper trailer, but it is a great piece of inspiration. I wonder what the total weight and tongue weight would be like if you cut a Forester at the firewall or maybe halfway back the front doors. Or maybe slope it back from the floor at the firewall to the roof at the B pillar....
  15. Tear drops are sweet. I've wanted one for a long time. This is the direction I really want to go, though: http://overdraftautolife.com/2013/08/21/do-it-yourself/
  16. Yesterday I pulled the FWD transmission from my EJ22 donor car. This weekend, it'll be loaded up and hauled to New England to find a new home in another USMB member's car. I learned that I'll happily pull a FWD trans over an AWD trans any day. No transmission fluid mess from the tail end, no driveshaft to remove, and the whole thing is a little smaller and lighter than an AWD unit. As a side note, I need to get a garage. Using Dad's is fine unless Dad happens to be using it...
  17. I joke about the van a little bit, but I honestly love it. We always had one when i was growing up and they're honestly the best. It can hold a full sheet of plywood, 10ft lumber, or a couch. It can haul 8 people far more comfortably than an SUV. The gas mileage isn't bad and it makes plenty of power. Sliding doors are amazing - no one is ever parked too close, I'm never too fat, etc. If you NEED 4WD, get an SUV. If you don't, get a van!
  18. Maybe I'll just fill my front tires with sand or anti-freeze to increase inertia What could go wrong?!
  19. This is my fear. I'm not sure whether to expect it to want to spin every time I take off, or just if I try to take off in a hurry. I imagine it would be horrible on stock sized tires. I'm hoping my 27 inch tires will help keep me grounded.
  20. I can't imagine wanting AWD that badly. I think you have me convinced to keep my D/R 5spd.
  21. Lately, I sold my wife's Outback. We needed a van for the growing family, so the Outback had to go. In order to get top dollar, I cleaned it up really nice and had my photographer brother take some really professional pictures. It looked better than it ever has! Have a peek: http://imgur.com/a/tVpWu
  22. I tried to get my wife on board with a Subaru powered VW vanagon, but she shut me down. That would've been a sweet family shuttle.
