  1. Ahhh... it makes some sense now. I drive in 3 cities in my 3 mile trek to work and back. Your post made me realize that the freakish lights are all within the same city. So it could be the brand of lights they use. After reading DrKrazy's post, I was going to check if I had a cross-eyed headlight
  2. This is freaking me out! I travel home from my job on the same road every night. For 2 weeks now, when I pass under 3 particular street lights on my route, they go out when I'm directly under them. Not every one, every time, but at least one every night, sometimes two. Now, tonight one went off and one was off and then went on? It's an '86 Brat. Could it be the glare off my sunroof messing with the photo cell?
  3. Any weekend in May (except the the last one) is good for me. Weather's usually great!
  4. Yup, the snow packed in will do that. I had it happen last year... was nice not to have the ABS working. I don't drive the Baja on slick roads... I absolutely hate those ABS brakes. I drive the Brat instead, I feel more secure.
  5. Please leave the 78 as stock as possible, it's a gem. play all you will with a Gen2. They're bigger and more comfy, unless you're a little person ... don't ya think? I drive my '86 daily. The BajaT sits... but when it doesn't, forget the Hondas... what Hondas?
  6. Welcome! Try A-1 Burlington Auto Parts in Shirley, Mass... not too terribly far from you. I got an engine (49K) and a tranny (59K) for my EA-71 from them. They have a great warranty and their prices are very reasonable. The parts have been pulled and most have been tested. Another place is Borges... they are a bit of a haul for you, but reputable. I agree with Turbone, and would go with a J/Y engine because the cars did rust out LONG before the engines/trannies even got broken in. Salt... I hate it. We're expecting a blizzard after midnight and they dumped about a ton of salt on my street 3 hours before the first flake has even fallen? What's up with that?
  7. Regarding a meet here, I have been in all your towns at one time in my life. Potsdam is 8 hours flat out... even as the snow flies... white out conditions thank you very much! Syracuse 6, with food/bathroom stop. Albany 3 and a smidge if speed-limit friendly. Binghamton 5... 4.5 if you push, Walden/Newburgh 3 with luck and pushing hard. Milford, NH, 1 1/2, New Ipswich closer to 2 with Slice gabbing Danbury 3... at most, Milford, CT, 3 flat out regardless. Don't know Andrew's area. RI - subafreak, 1.5 - my guess is 2 hours from anywhere in the state. PA...?? depends on the area. Eastern MD 7, NOVA no longer than 8 flat out... did 7.5 once... gas only... no P'ing. Ohio... no clue, but if you're willing to come... we have room for you as a challenge! I have never looked recently for anywhere to offroad locally, but that doesn't mean there aren't places. If this meet pans out, it may be just like minds melding... not such a bad thing. ME... shoreline... most it could be is 5 hours? My ex in-laws would drive to Canada have lunch and return back home that night. BTW, he just loved to drive.
  8. '78 Brat - White, Blue interior. '78 Brat - was Mild Yellow, Tan interior, now Ford Chrome Yellow, Black and Yellow interior. '84 Brat - White - Blue interior '86 GL-10 - Black, Grey interior '86 Brat - Maroon body, Blue fenders, Tan interior, now Viper Red - Tan interior
  9. I just learned today that "skipperbluecars" (John's Garage in Phillipston, MA) has access to 6 new windshield gaskets for 2nd gen Brats. He hesitates to buy them unless he has interest in selling them. I have dibs on one... depending on price. (It's just-in case part). Call Skip at 978-249-9051 if you're interested. BTW, he has consoles, interior parts, glass, seats and lots of other parts still available.
  10. Awww... I would love that! When I need OEM parts I have to resort to coming to the left coast where dealerships still support old gens. Subaru of New England no longer supports older Subes so the dealers have absolutely no access to parts... even if they loved the cars... which I have YET to experience... they look at me sideways and are quite frankly rude about it. Sooo... to buy parts from your same dealerships, I have to either pay thru the nose for shipping or pay C.O.D. which is even worse. At any rate, the part is ALWAYS way less than shipping. I do have a parts man who finds me re-man/aftermarket stuff all the time. He won't sell anything he knows is trash... he says, "Too much paperwork on returns." He's awesome!
  11. LMAO! Very creative! Just watch out for the "open container" laws! Oh, when that envelope does pop, it's gonna scare the bejeepers out of you... between the noise and then dropping down 3 or 4"... what a ride!
  12. I would love to host a meeting here. It's pretty central to NH, ME, CT and eastern NY. We have upwards of 50 people every Halloween and a few other occasions... I love cooking for a crowd! There are several hotels and campgrounds for longer distance people.
  13. Sounds fishy on the dealerships part. He already stated that it was ABANDONED... (as in, "I don't want to have it any more"... NOT STOLEN), and he says spent a long time getting the car in his name and succeeded. Since it was abandoned... I assume that the previous owner didn't want any "social" or monetary considerations for the car.... taxes, tags etc. ... they were fulfilled by the finder and ownership was legally granted He now owns the car regardless of the circumstances prior, and now has title to the car... I assume. Don't you think he is now entitled to every courtesy and effort, as far as the rest of the world is concerned, in getting the car back? I wouldn't count on any more than the value of the car. The best would be to nail them to tha wall for crooked dealings! Providing my assumptions are correct... I wish the best of luck! Mary
  14. Ahhh... you mean Mehfid... LOL! I did a quick search on Yahoo! The result was 200 Dunkin Donuts shops within 16.6 miles of my house. No wonder everyone around here is jittery and cranky! Jeeeezzz...
  15. There are 11 Dunkin Donuts within 2 miles of my house. 2 are within sight of each other. We had one Krispy Kreme open and it closed within a year, yet Dunks pop up like mushrooms and they're always busy. I haven't seen the commercial though.
  16. I would buy a Baja... very versatile. Sweet trucklet. I still like my Brat better. You could buy a bunch 'o Brats with that money.
  17. Back in the day, I had my clutch cable go, just snapped had it replaced. Apparently, it saved me from this problem. Good to know... it's probably true of other years.
  18. That's crazy... yes, a win on eBay is a binding legal transaction. The other route is to take the responsible party to small claims court. No lawyer is necessary, but trying to collect on the judgement can be as tough as squeezing it out of the insurance company. Just the thought of a summons may provoke them into insisting their insurer cover their potential loss determined by a judge and not the insurer's twisted sense of value. They paid for a policy to protect them against this type of loss and I would expect they would want the benefits it should be providing. I know I would be rather eager to get my insurance company to pay off instead of it coming out of my pocket!
  19. I don't think you understood what I meant by there being no regional values. A buyer in WA, OR or CO may only pay $500 for an old Subaru, but a NE buyer would part with much, much more just because they just simply aren't available or are rusted out hulks. So yes, there are extreme differences in values of vehicles by region. But eBay, Autotrader, craigslist and the like, have broken the barriers that have prohibited the average person from reaching those buyers. So people have a whole new audience of potential buyers, not just local people. He could have fetched a pretty penny selling the car on eBay... therefore his "regional" or local value is a moot issue and eBay, Autotrader, etc. past sales are more realistic in determining the fair market value of the vehicle.
  20. I have to disagree about the regional value differences. Since eBay came along, there is no such thing as "regional" value, it's whatever the market will bear. eBay is a very large market... full of eager buyers. A person in the NE would pay way more money than someone local to you. Soooo, whether or not the insurance company is prepared to accept it, it's fact and eBay does exist.
  21. Kevin, Buck the insurance company... $400.00 is squat. The collision shop was going to charge me $400. to repaint my Elantra bumper after a slight bump to the rear by a Jeep.... there was no physical damage, just scuffed paint. A $2.00 bottle of touch-up and a rainy night when I traded-in and it was all better! There is place on eBay where you can view auctions that have ended. I would suggest that you go there and get a sampling of past sales. I hate insurance companies... they're getting more absurd all the time.
  22. Now Andrew... you have +/- 24 Subarus, but according to your signature, none of them are running or registered. Just curious... what do you drive? I drive all of mine 'cept the '84... needs work.
  23. I have found this to be true on at least 3 occasions. I am so lucky to have found a parts man that knows this and he takes them back for full credit and an apology and free stuff!! He says the same of rebuilt carbs and he won't even sell them. He says only 1 in 5 are good so I gave him roobuilders addy, Kerry is GOOD! Fortunately, I bought axles that had 3k on them and any defects would have surfaced by now... they should be fine for 100k with my driving habits
  24. I had mouse condos in my heating ducts. Took me a looong while to pick out the Mickey and friends doings. All was well except for a noise on high, then from out of nowhere, a full fall leaf came flying out of the duct!
  25. Quite frankly, there is no easy way. It takes a lot of hard work. Use aluminum wheel polish and a terry towel wrapped around one finger with light pressure til you get down to "new" metal... then buff with a clean terry towel to a nice gloss. Note: Power tools will leave marks and produce a duller shine. Once you get them buffed, WAX them, and KEEP them waxed. Between waxings, ONLY wash them with COLD water and use a sponge with light pressure as to not remove the wax prematurely. The wax will ensure you'll never have to experience the agony you're going through now. BTW, it's easier if you pull the wheels.
