  1. Amen to that! Some say the horse is the most expensive land transportation... no way... my Brat is!
  2. Yes. They came up with a "cutsie" name and then came up with a "meaning" for it... which is what a backronym is. Who would have ever come up with that description otherwise? BTW, some parts computer systems ask if it's 4WD or 2WD. This is after the Brat is part of the equation. I thought that odd since my understanding was that all Brats were 4WD.
  3. Agreed... take advantage of the rights of your state, that's what the laws are there for. Sh-tuff happens, just don't let it happen to you if you can possibly avoid it.
  4. Your friend was a lucky man to have died the way he did... we should all be so blessed. Not to worry kiddo, you'll recharge your spirit in no time... concentrate on your family's future and all the great things to come.
  5. Arrriggght... I almost choked on my coffee when I read this! Have you been peeking in my driveway? There are more hours spent cleaning and buffing that '78 than driving it! Cheer up Connie... take your time and enjoy yourself.
  6. Remember Connie, it's a project car... it doesn't have to be done today! I've had that little yellow Brat for over a year now... total mileage so far... 156 miles. I measure my mileage in MPB, (miles per breakdown). Highest mileage between breakdowns, 38.1. I know it will come together eventually... so hang in there kiddo.
  7. Here's a composite of all 3 Gens. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=5916&sort=1&cat=500&page=1
  8. Define MCP? Whoa! I guess I can say it because I'm a "crone"... old and female... I've been there, been that. It's a wonderful thing to not be so demanding!
  9. Brats are for sure female... they're cute, but have a mind of their own, and will make you keep guessing as to what pleases them.
  10. That will be nice! Side, rear and front... pretty please. Up close and personal!
  11. Paul, Will some of the interior parts you gave me fit his? They're tan. I don't need most of them... my interior is great except the passenger's door lock surround and the window crank? Must have been parked for the sun to get them. Pat, you can have them if you need them... Paul gave them to me... he filled the bed that day! Let me know. Mary
  12. Pictures!!!! We need pictures! No need to get it decked out!
  13. Being a '78 Gen1 owner, and a new '86 Gen2 owner, there is a weird year in between... the '82. While searching for parts for mine, I have found that you can pick up parts all day long for that year. The problem children are '78-'81 and '83-'87. Can you get some good pics of it? Curiosity is all.
  14. Gen2. Any year 83 and up will go. Oh, a low roll bar, A bar in front and an antenna. The list goes on! This is a very exciting find! There's a yard in Mass. that swears they have 3 Brats way in the back... they are clearing out and have my number to call when they find them. It's a closed yard, so they won't let me go in to look for them
  15. Alright Skip! "Let's see yours"... I'll get a composite of all 3 gens... my camera isn't wide enough to get them all dead on.
  16. Trudy, Wow! You are sooooo lucky! Seats, I'm looking for tan. Also the window cranks, and lock surrounds in tan. Exterior badging. Can you check the bumpers? Mostly the rear. I also need the wide trim molding off the bottom and the clips. The skinny body trim that runs halfway up. Complete hood latch cable end to end. Thanks! Mary
  17. I'm in a total mess. This whole system's been cobbled. I have 2 air cleaner cans (the round turquoise blue). On one air cleaner, there's a valve inside that's all rusted and looks like it should move but doesn't and there's 2 brass prongs sticking out the bottom that look like something should be plugged into it. On the other, there's a different looking plastic valve that says Nissan on it but it's broken, it has the two brass prongs too. There are some hoses that go into the cleaner. But there's a huge elbow that looks like a hose or something's supposed to attach to it? There's a skinny hose that hooks to the air cleaner, when you pull it off and plug it, the car idles better. In front of the carb there's a red wire with a a "U" connector that's just hanging there. The wire is hot, I can't find any place it attaches to. I see some springs that aren't attached to anything that looks like it was made to hook a spring into... they're just hung on whatever will give them tension... like a lip on the frame of something, or a bracket... they aren't hooked to anything that will cause a reaction to some other part. Now, the clear filter (it has accordion pleated cardboard in it) that sits on the left in front of the firewall... should that always be full of gas? I only see trickles in it. Lastly, a rebuild kit won't solve the jiggly idle adjustment screw... it's so worn, that it's barely hanging in there... the mixture screw on the left is pretty iffy too.. wobbles all around. Roobuilders has come highly recommended here. I spoke to my local parts guy this morning while picking up some shocks for the '86, and he told me that Tomco and United(?) have the odds of getting a good rebuild is only 1 in 5. I knew it was high but yikes! I have come to the conclusion that this is way over my head and have called "Uncle!". She's parked and all covered up until I can find someone to physically look at it... you can't beat a dead horse.
  18. Todd mentioned once that the side molding was added stateside and it's not always the same length or height on the car. The unworn seat? Did you say that a woman owned it? Women carry less junk in their pockets so the seats wear less. Tim's driver's seat always gets borked from all the stuff he carries in his pockets... plus the keys, cell phone and dip can.
  19. We tried the Seafoam and cleaned the EGR valve. That picture and test would be great Skip. Seems a process of elimination at this point. One big problem, the screw that's behind the 3 hoses is really loose and wiggly, it probably moves out of adjustment.
  20. Skip, My little no frills '78 has the spelled out badge on the right, built into the grill. Quad headlights. One other observation, it's been repainted, but there's no indication of ever having any upper body molding. It does have the holes where a tonneau cover was installed at one time... my guess is the one that had the little hooks, not snaps (the holes are too samall). My original 'no frills' had the upper body molding, with the same multi-colored decal as yours. All vinyl upholstery.
  21. I asked Jesse... he's not comfortable with carbs... I tried bribing him with actual cash money. No dice. In reality, I can get this one rebuilt for the cost of Luncheon Special at the local Chinese restaurant, but I think it's just a wee bit more involved than just the carb. MIIIIIIIIILESFOOOOOX! Where you be? Let's get this NE fix-it trip together! Time's a'wastin'!
  22. YIIIIKES! I don't even cook anything with a recipe with over 7 ingredients! Seriously, the external stuff is also a problem... the idle screw is all wiggly, the choke seems to be iffy. I'm at a loss here. BTW, WD40 and Seafoam doesn't cure all. I just want to DRIVE it.
  23. It has been deemed that my '78 Brat needs a new carburetor. What exactly does it come with and what old stuff is needed? The automatic choke? Could it messed up too? The symptoms are: it idles weird, runs prefect when it's cold, as it warms, it races and then almost stalls and then races. It won't idle at all when it's warm? It's making me crazy... I can drive for 15 minutes max then that's it... the heel to toe, brake and feather the gas, so I have ruled out the gas pump and filters. Oh, it's a Hitachi as far as I can tell.
  24. What Jesse said... The '78 is pitching a temper tantrum again and the '86 is in primer (well, sort of).
