Old Gen logo, true to the stars
Seahag1978 replied to Gloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Please... you younger guys especially. Choose wisely where you put your tattoo. Nothing below the elbow or above the collar. You never want to be chained to wear long sleeve shirts and turtle necks. You never know what you may be doing in the future. I have seen many qualified kiddos lose great jobs, that they really wanted, all because of a silly tattoo that shows (even below the cuff of a long sleeved shirt. BTW, on the logo business, I could be way off base, but I think they left out one star on purpose to imply that the car itself is the brightest star. Did you notice that the USMB logo has all 7? -

WBM (Wicked Big Meet). Massachusetts vernacular (wicked) and all. Can't get any more ECSS than that. Pittsburgh could swallow KS, ya think? -

Pittsburg is HUGE... so many boroughs, so little time. My brother lived IN Pittsburg. Took him over an hour early on a Sunday morning to fetch me from the airport IN Pittsburg?! Cost me .85 cents to make a "local" call to him from a pay phone... this happened 30 years ago! -

Skip, we do... WBM. Not official, but a very reliable source said close to 1000 cars this year, over 700 last year for sure. Yeah, it's 99.99% WRX/STI, red, white, blue, silver, sometimes yellow, big wing, little wing, no wing. The fact that the technology evolved from the 360 is mind-boggling. The mods are amazing. Old school is soooo encouraged to attend, these kids LOVE to see the older models, no matter what condition they're in and they draw a lot of attention. Devan's mud-covered, lifted wagon caused quite a stir. It's a Subaru thing. So out of all those cars, we had 3 old schoolers show up. 2 were mine, and Devan... shoot, his car could have easily walked up any of those brand spankin' new hoods and parked on their roof. He did refrain from doing that... especially since we all know he didn't like the show... but I have to say, the show liked him Please, please please, make an effort to come next year, you won't be ignored... -

One of these years... can't say when I'm old and gray... thank God for Clairol! I've never been further west than Pittsburg. Have a great time!!!! -
^ was exactly the reply I got when seeking parts from a local dealership. I said, "You sell parts and I just bought an old Subaru that needs lots of parts... ummmm, do the math." My independent parts-seller is great... I think he felt bad for me because it needed sooooo many parts that he sells them to me at shop rate

Here's the reponse... From: SOAMail@sun.subaru1.com Dear Ms. Courtney: Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your continued interest in Subaru products! We appreciate you taking the time to contact us. We sincerely apologize for the difficulty you've encountered trying to locate parts for your 1978 Brat. It's not that we don't value the owners of our older vehicles. We are very proud of the fact that many older Subaru vehicles are still on the road. Our authorized Subaru dealers are the parts suppliers for Subaru products. Please contact the Parts Department at your local Subaru dealer to check on the cost and availability of the parts needed for your Subaru. We recommend that you only purchase parts specific to your model and model year. Should you experience difficulty at your local Subaru dealer, please feel free to contact us again with your vehicle identification number, the parts / part numbers needed, and the name of the Subaru dealer involved. We will do our best to assist you further. Thanks for the opportunity to be of assistance. If you need any future assistance, please feel free to contact us again. I showed the newly restored BRAT on Sunday... I got beat by 2 VW bugs and a VOLVO Station Wagon... how embarrassing was that? I can't imagine how the Ferarri driver was feeling being beaten by a Volvo wagon. As a rule, Japanese cars get little attention/recognition, but THAT really hurt! Connie, I got the same response when I complained to SOA 3 years ago, it's posted here, I'll find it and give the link. I was pretty darn harsh in my letter... but it still didn't raise any eyebrows or produce any change in dealer attitude We can keep trying I guess.

I sure hope we have more old schoolers there next year... only 3 showed up this year, my 2 BRATs and Devan's lifted Loyale... that sucker got some attention I'll tell ya! No need to show your car... I ended up parking in the show area, but wasn't judged. I signed on late, because I didn't know if she would be finished in time. We were done at 9 pm Saturday night. I realized 40 miles from home, that we forgot to put the 2 badges on the tailgate I'm going to post pictures of her soon. -

We did... it was last Sunday Had a brief shower at the end. The official count isn't in, but some say 460, some say over 760 after counting cars in pictures, yet one other very reliable source said close to 1000. Regardless, it was a boatload of Subarus. A huge one brand show. -

I have to disagree... I like it. Your car rated at least 2 of 90 shots posted... http://www.onalimbracing.com so apparently, the photographer did too, and they were individual shots, not in a group or line. I wish we had more old school representation! Nice to see you, and your car, Devan! Oh, The BRATs did good both ways. The Chevy in our caravan overheated twice. -
Please help? Got ripped off on ebay!
Seahag1978 replied to GwyNative's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey kiddo... you did good. Mine did that shortly after I bought it, it was some pinion-thingy, yes it'll run with it broken. A low-miles tranny should only run you about $150, then install it yourself, there are plenty of people with tips and tricks to help you here. I still don't regret my purchase which was WAAAAAY more than you paid. I have replaced everything possible in the car since I have owned it, but quite frankly it's among the rarest vehicles at shows and cruise nights... contemporaries remember them when they see it but forgot about them because they haven't seen one in years... they always bring back fond memories... oh... the stories they tell me! I just sunk a butt-load of bucks and TIME into the body to restore it back to original. There's no way on earth I could recoup every drop of blood, sweat, tears and dollars I spent on this BRAT, but then again, it's not for sale... remember an old car is like stocks, you can only lose money if you sell. Enjoy! -

Sounds like soooo much fun! Why can't you ALL live next door to me???? We thrive on the get-together... can you imagine paying $359,000. for a condo only to watch and "hear" us all working on old cars across the street? The condos all sold. Oh, the smell of paint and the mess... apparently it's appealing to new homeowners?! We have an Asian couple who live diagonal across and the non-English speaking father, who lives with them, has been inching his way over, a little closer daily... tomorrow we wave him into the fold. Subarus come with friends. -
We do similar cruises regularly. We're a group of old car enthusiasts of all makes and models who actually "drive" their cars daily or otherwise. We meet as a group for breakfast at our house and then head north. Sometimes we have a destination (a show), or just meander. It's fun being the leader, you can stop wherever! At mid-day we stop for lunch, then basically just drive a scenic route and whatever looks good is a good place to stop. We all have radios and communicate whenever necessary <change of plan... someone needs to hit the head, needs a coffee, etc.>. When the cruise is nearing the end, we decide where to go for dinner... usually our house for BBQ Very relaxing... my favorite days, I love it.

Key stuck in Ignition 1980 BRAT
Seahag1978 replied to danrenfroe2016's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
LOL! I have one of those, mine's a push button. I can remove the key, it locks the ignition, goes to accessories, it just won't work reliably to actually start it. -

No, just normal antique cars, well, besides my '78 and any other old-school Subes that show up. It's Father's Day so it's for any dads that come along. I think Subaru of NE will be there. -

With the 3 beasts '78, '86, '50 Ford we're at it 3 nights a week and all weekend getting ready for the upcoming shows. My rule is... if you're here, you'll be fed. Tim says they only come for the food. LOL! -

The base entrance is $20. Then a $35 level. The $55 entrance includes a lift ticket, T-shirt and the show. I won't be showing either BRAT, I can't compete in the street class against the new ones. There's a group of antique cars coming, I'll probably be parking with them, I'll save you guys a spot -

LOL! It's a plastic shelter thingy, but we get some serious work done in it. Shhhh, this is a secret, I judge meal times by Tim's blood sugar level, when it's low, it causes severe cussing, so practice up -

Funny you should say that about pumping gas. Several years back, I drove to NY and was rather surprised to find only self-serve stations. I admit I was a little panicked by it, but the friend I was visiting knew how. Then it happened again while driving to VA, I tried to do it myself, but it was a really weird one... luckily, a nice elderly man did it for me. While I did some gas-pumping back in my high school years, the pumps are different now. I never give it any thought, both stations I use around town are full-serve and cheaper than the self-serve. Oh yeah, this morning, homefries, ham, bacon, kielbasa, scrambled eggs, toast and coffee came in between primer and paint (on our buddy's truck). Then, some guys showed up to help, so I polished chrome trim for 4 hours and then steak, rice and green beans for the crew. -

Nah... actually 99.9% of my friends are male, always have been since birth, I do have one long-time female friend, but she got old on me I have a few female acquaintences and I'm not at all masculine, I just have the same interests as men. I decided at the ripe old age of seven, I would become an offset printer... and I'm a damn good one
