  1. My favorite kind of new addition <4 wheeled, or 4 legged>. She'll bring you a lot of joy, be sure to drive her, they get downright testy if you don't! Congratulations! Very very, nice! Best of luck with her!
  2. Could be just "morning sickness". I've never owned a Subaru that hasn't had one form or another... squeaks, squeals, moans, groans, thumps, thuds or chatter. My Baja is one megahertz below a dog whistle... makes you cringe... like Quint drawing his nails down the chalkboard in Jaws. If it's humid and damp, my '86 damn near howls at the moon, scares an unfamiliar driver (Tim) and lasts as long as the rain/humidity does
  3. In the whole scheme of things, $1500. is short money to make a car worthy again. That's a just a "few" payments of many, many on a new one... besides, I'd rather put money into a devil I know Connie, if it has tires or testicles, it's gonna give you a headache. (oh, oh can I say that out loud?)
  4. Hey Connie! Hang in there, we've been working on the '78 every night after work til dark, for a couple of weeks, now. (Cooking dinner <I cook, not nuke> and eating at 9-9:30 bites... I get my second/third wind and am good to go til 3 am then awake at 5:30). This is getting old Tonight, after we painted the engine bay, we pushed the old girl into the hut (it's quicker than letting her old bones warm up enough to drive ). She'll get primer tomorrow, fingers and toes X'd. It's worth the effort kiddo... they bail us out on a daily basis... and that's why we keep patching them up. BTW, are you coming to WBM? I need a "single strand" hair beader for a while at the kids tent. Yes, (in addition to her car fix-em-up talents) Connie makes THE MOST gorgeous dream catchers ever!
  5. Justy=obsolete. Awww, you don't need to "show"... just show up I don't think I'll be in the show this year, I'll probably put mine with the antiques that are coming.
  6. Dang! missed another one... 18-20 hours round trip in a BRAT isn't my cup of tea... What are these rims and tires, anyone know? They are exactly what I want for my '86! Niiiiice! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v384/subyrally/DSCF0378.jpg
  7. In my area, the ones that are contracted to destroy the roads with salt in winter, also hold the contracts to repair them in spring/summer. What ever happened to full-time RWD? Fewer incidents back then. Skid a bit... recover... people "drove" cars then, now cars drive people. Newer high end cars are re-instituting RWD but with a flip into AWD. Still can't beat your basic 4 WD... ever. The DPW only used sand back then.
  8. Painted yellow like the body with the seats and carpet, like it was back in the day. I'm still looking for new carpet hold-down bars, mine are raunchy, but with a some work, I can salvage them.
  9. Thanks! It was a lot of work, but it's D-U-N... now the fun starts! Yellow and red same as it was
  10. Spent 12 hours this weekend removing the spray-on bed liner. The only thing we found that really worked was Dad's Easy Spray stripper from Wally-World. It was still a PIA, and my hands are so sore, I still can't form a fist from all the scraping. After work last night, we worked on the chips, dents and stripping off the door panels, lights, etc. Tonight, we'll work on the rusted areas and treat them. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=5798
  11. How about these? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14697&cat=798 This car came from lower Eastern PA. The body and interior are great... it'll be set onto a donor vehicle in the Fall.
  12. Try masking off the area and then hit it with a solvent.
  13. It's done! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=15553&cat=500&ppuser=5798 Here's the verdict. Heat Gun and scraping - works, but is way too slow and tough to scrape off. Torch - smelly, messy, too nasty and pretty expensive to do the whole job. 5F5 Stripper - works, but needs several applications to get results. Too expensive - $40.00 gallon would take 2-3 gallons.. Dad's Easy Spray Stripper - works on the bedliner in one application. A second application is needed to get through the original paint and primer. $20.00 gallon at Walmart. It took less than a gallon and about half the time of 5F5.
  14. I'm totally anal about my cars, 4 coats of wax go on in the spring and again in the fall, weekly (sometimes more) washings/vaccuming, monthly waxings in summer... one during January thaw...I learned the hard way years ago. When something breaks it's fixed immediately.
  15. While we were stripping the '78 down for paint prep, we found a big area underneath, forward of the wheel well that's toast! Yikes! I freaked because I NEVER, EVER drove it in the salt. Seems the previous owner must have driven it in the salt, since the car was in California before and Florida after he owned it and then it came here... I'm sick over it. It can be fixed pretty easily, since it's hidden, but man... what a shock!
  16. Thanks Ed!!! I need them by June 16, so if I need to have them sent priority I can do that. This particular brochure is very well done and I think it will be read by both the kids and their parents...
  17. I'm co-ordinating the Kids' Tent for WBM '07 (Wicked Big Meet) http://www.wickedbigmeet.com and am gathering some meaningful items for the liddle-kiddle's goodie bags. I ran across a .pdf of this item on a kids' safety website and tracked it here: http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/TS/docs/Bike/bikeengp1.jpg They're free, and I only need 50 copies, but I can't get them because I'm not an Oregon citizen. Can someone order them and have them shipped to you and I'll pay the shipping from you to me. This isn't exactly honest but, they will go to a good cause. My cheapo state doesn't provide anything like this, even though it's a state law for kids to wear helmets... Thanks in advance!
  18. June 17th - 9-4 p.m. at Wauchusett Mountain in Princeton, Massachusetts. Pre-registration is now open! http://www.wickedbigmeet.com 700+ cars showed up last year... let's get some old school representation...
  19. And for very good reason. Everything tested out right on. Thanks everyone!!
  20. I'd like to edit my wish list if possible. Today I found the chrome trim**, locks**, door panels**, armrests**, rain gutters, steering wheel**, pillar trim, grille**, interior seat belts**, gauge cluster w/tach and some other bits all in excellent shape. I also found a brand new bumper (not from the same car). Edit from moderator: ** denotes change made to your post #14 Didn't see the others in that post.
  21. Yes, it's an '86, and EA81. Ok, it has an internal regulator. The battery is brand new, so I'll look for wiring issues. My gut told me to do that because the other parts are new. This "new" gen is... well, different. I have to get a manual. Well, you guys are better. Thanks!
  22. So... I think I fried my alternator by letting a neighbor jump his truck from my BRAT. Weird things happened after that, so we replaced the alternator... well Tim did, I was still sleeping... heck, he's an early riser. Now it's 2 months later and my volt meter is sitting around ohhh, I'd say, maybe 11 or a bit lower. Well, just about a hair above the red line. I don't have a manual for the car, and don't see a voltage regulator like I do on the '78, so is there one? Better yet, what could be causing this? It's my daily driver and the weather is nasty so I don't want be messing with it in this crap.
  23. Thanks Rick,I appreciate that input, and take it to heart. I think you know what I'm trying to do. Jerry sent me some info on his transplant too and can elaborate. If I were there, I'd have no issue. I'm here and so I do... we are in a different mentality. They figure why replace inferior metal with inferior metal? ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH! I have a headache.
  24. The latter. The BRAT's culpability as a support system is nil. The engine as a power source is nil. It's decoration only. The former are spares for my '86
