CTS Question on my Hated XT6
kingbobdole replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it does sound like a coil.. turbo's usually eat them like that, normal when cold, dead when hot... you can also steal parts to check it out off of ol bucky... then buy bucky a new coil:rolleyes: -
that thing is hot:banana:

I hate my XT6 with Every little peice of my Soul
kingbobdole replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1... I remember the first year I went and Paul(IIRC) brought Huck a bike or something and as such drove an F-150... which he "converted" to an SVX by putting some duct tape on the windows... awesome. Anyway, check for vac leaks... if it's that bad I'd check the brake booster connection or the intake track for looseness or leaks... including the PCV as those old hoses tend to crack when played with. My second thought is ignition timing... did anyone play with the dizzy at all... maybe it's loose? Keep at it Girl... it's a great car, just not used to you yet. When I first got my 6, the first year was hell... within the first 6 months I broke the front diff... which lead me to a tranny swap that took me forever to do.... then after forever the car was on the road again... 2 WEEKS LATER the headgaskets started pouring coolant out of them:dead: I was broke for the tranny swap and it took me another 6 months to afford to get the car back together(my mother actually lent me money to get it out of her garage, again.) Just keep at it, a running 6 is a beautiful thing. -

1979 Subaru Leone (JDM/RHD) ~$6000
kingbobdole replied to awlllwa's topic in Products for your Subaru
Thats neat... not quite $6k neat. -
Is the end goal to make people notice your car? Here's my suggestion.... Lift it:banana: No really... we have an annual meet here in CO and when I take my EJ25 '88 Rx, no one cares.... I'm the red dog of the old school crowd... with Jeff, and all the other guys are hanging around the lifted vehicles. Then, when I take my lifted 87 wagon I get questions and people and all sorts just walking around it. Strange, I woulda figured a E swap would be cooler, but the peoples prefer the lifts.

+1 on going to the dealer and spending the money to get the correct wiring diagram. Wiring is the easy part, just follow the diagram, make sure all 180 wires are going to the right places and it's done... cake. MS is more pain then you wish upon anyone unless you are doing a crazy custom build... stock management will do just fine.

I used Rustolem and did my 6 as well.. came out pretty good and I haven't polished it quite yet, I needed to fix the wing after The Dragon last year and just got it done today, but I'll polish it soon... I used the can stuff and shot it through a air spray gun onto the car and it is MUCH cheaper that way. Spray cans are about $4 a piece, but the quarts are about $7 and I used like one and a half of paint and like 3/4 of one on the primer.... so like $21 for paint, but I've redone the drivers fender(mom backed over it) and I'll redo the trunk lid this week... since it has fresh bondo. anyway BEFORE: Primered: Right after: Months later: About a year later: I think it looks a billion times better, and it only took me a few days to do, maybe like 3... one day to sand, one day to primer and sand then the last day to paint.... Worked pretty good and I'll update in a few days if the polish makes a huge improvement as the car's color is a bit... flat.

MY NEW LIGHTS and BUMPER (custom)
kingbobdole replied to subaruguru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
uhhhh.... What's the fan for? -
Why turbo? Are you a boost freak? You can have the front end of your exhaust changed to mate(or it might just do it ) to a N/A setup. My vote is for an EJ25 SOHC motor... like the one I did. I also recommend the EJ tranny and to stay away from the adapter plates... you'll be happier in the long run. Also you might help the people out and tells us how fast exactly you want to go. My 88 Rx with the 2.5 will run a 15 second quarter mile at over 6000 feet and I get about 30 MPG around town on regular.... I mostly built it for the gas milage, but am very happy with the performance and the fact I can flog it and not have to buy premium or kill the MPG. Just a thought.

I have my 6 currently running 2 filters, the valve covers are T'd in the center and then there is a filter there, and then the block is filtered... I've been running like this for years with a few problems. First on hot days, or just because the blow by will flow in smoke form out from under the hood... neat. Also it seems that the block likes a little suction and as a result if I'm hard on the car, it'll push the dipstick out a touch and give the upper radiator hose a little oil.. which smells nice. I'm looking to put a catch can on the block.

Anyone in Idaho Springs/Denver area?

Who was on the bike?
kingbobdole replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
It was me... don't call my Honda a Kawasaki you jerk!:-p -
...but the grinder was free:banana:
-
grinder;) I just took the "mounting plate" where it bolts to the air box off... and it's mostly round there... just a little trim and it was perfect... I have the same thing on my SPFI swapped SW... it's loud tho:banana:
-
kinda sounds like a TPS issue... might try swappin in another if you have it.
-
I prefer to think of my Rx as a green house.... you know, since it was designed like one:dead:
-
I have about 5 codes in my OBD2 EJ25.. runs awesome... gets 30 MPG... didn't hook up the light... no worries;)

Sounds like a good build... it will be quick. Matt Monson is the undisputed master of the 2.5 N/A as far as I know... here are some threads and he did indeed get just over 150 HP at the wheels... http://www.awdpirates.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11557 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=595740&highlight=dyno I built mine for reliability, to get less EA82T and for MPG baby! I used the 3.9 gears (96 imp out tranny with converted LSD using EA series parts) and I have an JC sports intake and a Ebay crank pulley.... and very ghetto rigged exhaust(soon to be less rigged) Anyway I get about 30 MPG beating the snot out of it AND it'll run a 15 second quarter at 6000+ feet. EDIT: P.S. save yourself the headache and if you do decide to turbo... ditch the N/A block... no really.. it cannot take it for very long.
-
EJ22T should fit as well.... most impreza/legacy/EJ series parts are interchangeable for the most part
-
yeah +1... hey are you coming to the meet on the 29th or so? As far as my plan goes I might try and grab all legacy stuff and see if that flies... and combine it with the stock condenser and evap....
-
So I have a few questions about the oil sandwich that comes stock on the turbo EA81s. As I know there are three fittings that come out of it... Two go to the oil cooler and the third one goes to the turbo. Firstly... Is there a pressure drop for the line going to the turbo? If so is it built into the sandwich part? The plan is to hook it up with the cooler this way and then the turbo line straight to the turbo... with some rubber to make it work on my **-*. Also if anyone has the complete setup and wants to sell it... pm me and let me know, I'd like one. Thanks!
-
actually he is right... to a degree... The stock wheel is around 26 Lbs IIRC and the XT6's is 19... You can safely (according to Skip) turn a wheel down to about 16 Lbs. When wheeling you really need the momentum to carry you up hills or over whatever... it takes longer to rev the engine, but it also takes longer to slow the wheel. That being said, when I do the clutch on my SW I will put a XT6 wheel into it. My wagon simply doesn't have enough power to get up some places.... ohh it's also slow.
-
Thats the plan... just not sure if I can use the stock condenser and drier with the legacy compressor.... Don't really want to get custom hoses made but I could.
