Damn... My old gl was totally carbbed....at one point....
-
Well I've got the ol gl sitting out back with no rear end in it. Ill try and pull the tank soon and look.
-
Are gl tanks the same?

So I'm having an issue with my 6 leaking fuel at the filler neck. The tube itself was rotted and I thought I'd go ahead and replace it. Didn't seem to help much. It leaks right at the tank where the rubber filler neck tube meets it. I have a feeling the seam in the tank neck is junk and I'm going to have to replace the tank. Last thing I tried was a bit of copper coat on the tank and in the tube to help it all stick together. Now it leaks only when it's warm out, so like constantly recently. Thoughts?

XT6 Transmission issues
kingbobdole replied to crazyhorse001's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The tcu is inside the panel behind the drivers seat. Iirc the ground to it is unreliable, like under the seat or something where it can get corroded. Does a key turn fix it? -
Funniest part about this thread is I got to an old Jeff post. Didn't make a damn bit of sense and I wondered how old the thread was. Yup. I downshift because I'm a mechanic and I enjoy the drive not worrying about replacing the bits. I built the car to be driven how I like it, plus its not like I wear out a clutch every year, or ten years even. In ten years my xt6 has gotten three clutches. When I first made it a manual, new clutch. When I made it EZ powered it got a new rs clutch and this year I made it a 6 speed it got a used 6 puck act. Never wore one out. :-p

How can I tell if my Subaru is a DL, GL or GL-10?
kingbobdole replied to Vortex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The Xt, ala the vortex really didn't get many trim choices. If its n/a and doesn't have a back seat, manual windows and no passenger mirror, then it's a DL. If its n/a and has many option like power windows and a back seat, it's a GL. If its turbo, it's a GL-10. Also for more XT specific info, join us www.subaruxt.com -
I did this once with my lifted EA82. I bashed the skid plate up and had taken it off for straightening and forgotten that I did. Then I decided to climb a 10 foot snow pile. Snow piled under the belt and snapped it. Another note about ea vs ej, the ej belt is pretty simple covers or no. With the covers I can do a belt easily in an hour. On the EA there's no way the covers come off nicely and with all the other things in the way, it takes forever! Plus the EA Covers are magically liquid tight and since the EAs just love to leak, your belt gets very well lubricated. First time I did my belt I had probably 12 ounces of oil inside the cover.

Four of my cars are in that pic. ;-). I'm slowly restoring her... Very slowly. I'm into the flat black for now, but I also just picked these up.. NOS.. -
Strangely the guy across the street from my folks had these..... Found I was out of black paint, but put them on anyway...

Pulling my EA71, mods?
kingbobdole replied to maestro's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Cork gaskets suck. As a person "in the industry" dealers always require you build a motor "properly" which will lead the old engines to leak quickly. I don't know about six months, I'd give it longer. When I resealed mine I used Toyota FIPG witch is a high quality liquid gasket. Works great, no leaks. As far as people flooding dealers, firstly warranty was 12 months and secondly I think people took more responsibility back in the day... I'd love to see an SPFI on a 71. Can't you just swap on the throttle body assembly? -

If you haven't read my thread.... http://subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12991 Everything from a six speed behind an EZ to a cable pull clutch. I went sti, because its cool. I went awd because I kept blowing up fwd legacy trannies.. Iirc stock xt6s have 3.9 rear ends, I kept mine with a clutch LSD. Plenty of legacy or imprezas trannies use the same ratios.

My ej25 stock clutch had trouble holding EZ power. No way a stock Xt clutch is going to hold it. Tranny probably won't either.

kingbobdole replied to kingbobdole's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks to the votes, it's now a second gen car... Jerks.... Won't stop me from buying one still. Link to purchase http://gearheadshirts.com/products/1016746-subaru-brat If you want to chime in on what colors there are going to be, comment here: http://www.facebook.com/GearheadShirts?ref=stream Thanks everyone that helped! Hopefully I can continue to inspire him to produce more old gen Subaru stuff... -
So I'm interested in putting some newer seats in my 79. Anyone have anything cool? I'm open to everything from RX checkers, Xt, or even WRX/newer stuff. Just need a comfy place to sit.
-
Friend of mine that make shirts is now offering a sweet first gen BRAT shirt soon. He's looking for votes on which BRAT is best. Tuesday night is the deadline. http://www.facebook.com/questions/10151292677044335/

More of a fake WRX scoop.... What clutch do I need? Is it special to the five speed?

Great to hear you got it back! If anyone stole my GL-10 they'd probably return it personally...
