  1. Ok I did a search and could not find what I wanted.. I put a 96 impreza transmission into my 88 Rx.. and today when I went to hook up the front axles, I touched the stub and pushed it in towards the tranny... the things got a good inch or so of play... looks like the caps have been messed with and I'm unsure how to fix it the right way. Also, did this tranny have the adjustment "lockers" on it (the piece of metal bolted to the side of the adjustment that holds it, like an EA tranny) This was kinda a mystery tranny(got it from a guy of CL), checked the front and turned it, turns smooth no issue there, but I didnt check the sides... I haven't played much with new stuff, so give me the best advice:grin: Thanks all!
  2. No way... He's lying... its a FORD... FORD... FORD!!!! The window sticker probably says 23 city 27 hwy, but thats a lie too... Taurus's get wretched MPG... 80's ones were worse... like barely 20's... Hell I just looked it up and learned something... they finally killed that bloody car for one and for 2, http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/16409.shtml government says 23 MPG tested mix driving 29 hwy... thats close I guess... but this only applies if its one of the last tauri... either way that huge car will be more comfy... might want to take it.
  3. When you put the wheels on backwards like that how long does it take for your wheel bearings to hate you? Awesome wagon though... Makes me wanna go swap my engine right now
  4. Thanks for leaving that for me BTW:dead: Mike... you know you want that wagon to be D/R FT4WD:banana: or if you go 4 speed D/R I have that too with a starter even...(I think) and a flywheel(I have a few...) I think you need to come buy some of my pre-pulled yard parts at reasonable prices:)
  5. Its out of a 96 impreza... its got a 3.9 output:banana:
  6. +1 on price... With the cost of my car I got an extremely nice daily driver for about $1500 that will go anywhere... 4" lift, 29"s, rear LSD, and an SPFI swap was all I did... Mine's the black 87 Ricks "short bus", I'm sure hes got less in it then mine... He got the car for free plus a BYB lift, late XT EA82 spider swap, 27"s on some pugs I sold him cheap.... If hes got a grand into that car I'd be surprised...
  7. I know this isn't a fancy WRX power turbo major super upper swap, but hey... I'm aiming for 30 MPG... Anyhoo, I went junking today and got some parts and I am actually making progress on the car... I first found a legacy, some one pulled the tranny and left the clutch... best part, motor was seized, guess its not cool to check the oil level over 280K miles.... Then I only had to pull the bolt of the power wire for the starter, cake. Then I get a 3.9 diff out of a sedan.. Gotta convert my LSD later:banana: Went home, got the clutch on and dropped the motor in... Other then forgetting to lengthen the boom on the hoist, this went really well... Then I got the tranny on... forgot to knock out the guide pins on the tranny(they were in the engine too) but other then that it went really smooth.... I still have to: -Remove the old Rx electronics -Drill holes in the tranny cross member(it was seized on, so I PB Blastered it, put the tranny on a stand and called it a night) -mess with the shift linkages -Convert the LSD to a 3.9 -hook up the engine with plenty of riggin' Still waiting on what I'm going to do to make the motor run fuel management wise, but I have lots more still to do:banana:
  8. For the rest of you I posted it on the last page.... Thanks for reading what I post russ:mad: :-p
  9. (not that I dont want to sell my tranny but...) I agree... The rx tranny is kind of a false legend... its nice and all, but the gearing sucks... Thats why I chose the impreza tranny when I put the EJ25 in my Rx. A thing on Numbchux post I'd like to point out... The hydro clutch fork will fit the Rx tranny... (my Rx fork fit my impreza tranny just fine) So you'd just need to mount the clutch slave on the tranny somehow.. either welder, or drill and tap or... JB Weld..
  10. I drove around with my highbeams on all night tonight in my 02 corolla... or rather work's 02 toy... the headlights suck so bad, no one bothered me, not even the cops...
  11. +1 one for that thing winning the ugly award... seems like he wanted a dodge... I liked the look of my old BRAT, just needed tires
  12. Noss also had a strange problem with his 86 Turbo... the shaft came out of the cup very easily... but was a PITA to get back in, we first tried pulling the axle, hammering it back together just to get it mostly into the car and have it fall apart again and not be able to push it back together... a new C clip on the axle end solved this IIRC
  13. Just a note on trannies... Since I'm doing a EJ25 swap into my Rx, You might note two things. First, its not really hydro vs cable, its pull vs push trannies. The USDM and WRX trannies are a pull type and it would be a royal PITA to make it work with a cable. I personally got a 96 impreza tranny that has the 3.9 ratio(so I can use an old school diff) and is the push type. I also plan on using the clutch fork out of my Rx tranny since it appears to be the same, but I still kinda have to take a look at the TO bearing on the impreza to make sure that it will work with the clutch I'm going to get. Huck found me this Transmission Chart and I find it rather useful... NOTE: SOME TRANNIES ARE LISTED TWICE!!! It depends on if it came out of a legacy or impreza. BTW can anyone point me in the direction of any Mega Squirt info on running a EJ25?
  14. One thing to note on the vent as well... When I did this on my BRAT the vent canister was on the drivers side of the BRAT yet when you hook into the hard line at the back of the intake, it takes the vent to the pass side of the car. I just by-passed the hard line and took a hose straight from the firewall to the can, then I removed the hard line under the intake
  15. Thats an XT TURBO, not a 6 BTW.. note the lugs and the scoop:) Check this old ad out...
  16. Thanks! You can get coil over kits for them, the universal ones... I got some off Ebay, and personally I chopped the front springs via angle grinder, then add the coil overs to the rear. If you chop the rears, the car is too bouncy and hurtful to you, but the coil overs make it pretty smooth. This is my XT last year, before I "re rigged" the suspension... When I got the car, it had cut springs all around, and after I swapped the trannies, the front gained about an inch, but over all it was still very low. Hucks is in front of me. Then I got Rims and wanted to make the ride less harsh so I simply put coil overs in the rear and left the front alone... The Rims and tires seemed to lift the car about an inch all around as well, but I also used the coil overs to give the car more rake... I like the way it looks currently [/photowhore] I love my car too much:grin:
  17. problem! The EJ25 doesn't have a resv on it.... Guess I need all that stuff...
  18. Worst rust I have ever seen was a wagon in Boulder... it had crank windows... I could tell... from across the parking lot:eek: The outer door skin was gone on the pass door and you could see the entire mechanism... Also large holes about everywhere else... it was a mess. Sat abandoned for about 3 months and then it was gone.
