I fixed my car with vacuum cleaner parts!!!
kingbobdole replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this sounds like something Jeff would try... maybe I just think that because his car sounded like a vacuum cleaner for some time. -

We need to do this again, sometime when I can go.... ohh and after Rick gives me my wagon back... or I'll just thrash the RX:eek: -
I saw CXT and got all excited... Not quite the same as mine:lol:

NOTE: All I have is an XT6 book... Basically there are 3 connections on the back of the alt, the 2 in the plug and the power feed. Things to check.. the housing ground, its gotta be really good. basically checking the block ground since the alt is bolted to it. Second, check for 12V at the plastic plug. As said the XT6 uses one side of the plug for the dash indicator light and the other side to excite the coil, but they are basically connected, one goes through the light the other does not(think light resistance) the pole is also connected to the same power, so just check voltage at all three points across the alt. Last note.. my book reads: LEAD WIRES BETWEEN AL TERMANIL B (the pole) AND BATTERY POSITIVE AND BETWEEN ALT TERMINAL L (the lamp wire in the plastic plug) AND THE BATTERY NEGATIVE MUST BE LESS THEN 2.5 M IN LENGHT AND GREATER THEAN 8 MM(2 squared) IN SECTIONAL AREA. so maybe your battery power to alt wire is too long or too small.

Black wagon FTW Its a good thing I have an LSD

I couldnt get the grille on my wagon... Maybe I need the piece below the lights as well? The front of it stuck out quite a bit.:-\

As far as your vid goes, the music gets WAY TOO LOUD in parts, when the wagon is not around... its ok to turn it up a touch, but it made my speakers crackle.. and they are descent speakers... also the video is kinda dumb, sorry, but burnouts and Js are for high school kids.

the throttle switch above is the idle switching circuit.. in the 4 wire TPS, its built into the TPS.As far as Idle air control... the aux air vavle is what does it on your old setup... just ditch the new roundy AAV in favor of your old one, then run hoses from where it got them

87 GL wagon won't start after 4 mos
kingbobdole replied to happyman1023's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
also check the relay... Check for power at the pump first, if thats a minus, get after the relay... its kinda common -
I have a very vicious evil diabolical easy plan that as of yet has not been tested. Basically after looking at the wiring diagrams the only isses are the idle switch and the TPS, and for the people just following along, the spider TPS is 4 wire and includes the idle switch were as regular MPFI has seperate things and a 3 wire TPS. Heres how you make it go(I think) First, retain your old wiring harness and AAV. Second, splice in the NEW 4 wire TPS using the plug off the XT harness... I drew a picture. Any questions?

Loyale -> GL/DL differences
kingbobdole replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
mikes right in some places... the loyale is basically a GL, that just got almost no options, and they had better undercoating in the 90s. As far as options go, your choices were basically a/c or not, auto or manual, 2wd or 4wd and mpfi or spfi, but it seems like 90% of them are SPFI. You could NOT get a dual range, or a turbo (save those rare ones). I just think Subaru aimed at the fuel efficent small wagon and kept it around while they produced the Legs. They probably dropped the turbo due to its lack of HP and MPG in favor of 2/3 cars. the imps/legs had the power, and the loyales had the good MPG. Ohh and other differences are that on the back it simply says "Subaru" and on the rear doors it says "Loyale" where DL/GL/10 says "Subaru (model)" and just "Subaru" respectively... ohh and the loyales had those crazy spoked and "disced" hubcaps.:-\ -
Do your self a favor and check/ clean out your PCV system too... kinda sounds like somethings plugged, and even though I"m fairly certain that you need a HG... you should also check out the PCV system too... its kinda odd to have it push it out the intake.... unless its really drining the rad into the air box:eek: I'm just thinking you might have something plugged also...

colorado members i need a transmission
kingbobdole replied to jeffast's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Russ is right... all FTs should have the diff lock. Jeff.. you should put a PB turbo tranny in it.. it'll be faster, get better MPG(when it runs) and you wont have to convert your 3.7 lsd to a 3.9:banana: BTW I also happen to have one for sale:grin: -
MPFI retrofit...how difficult is it?
kingbobdole replied to Special Fred's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Jeff's partially crazied... well totally craized, but he got half of it right. The ECU is different, and so is the wiring... but the fuel pump is just fine as well as the lines... All EFI pumps put out the same pressure if its turbo, spfi or mpsi, they all work. The wiring on the other hand..... -
High Compresion EA82T is now in my car
kingbobdole replied to mdjdc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can talk for mikes car. My GF owned it AFTER the guy who originally built it (steve X35). We both were rather hard on it, not bad, but kinda. The bigger issue was that the motor had a cooling problem sometimes which Mike has since fixed... it also had an issue where the timing was just too much for it when we got it, and it had a bit of ping for a while as well. It was a fast car and I know I put it through its paces a few times... I'm sure Roni was nicer to it tho, not that I tried to blow it up, it was just fun and encouraged "spirited" driving:banana: Also, Mikes headgasket blew by warping the cylinder "ring" in the gasket, just pushed part of it out into the water jacket, and egged the gasket.... very odd... it may not have been retorqued.... -

Just one thing of note... Whats the point? I'm not knocking you, I just want to know... it seems like a TON of work for like 8 HP and 5 ft/lbs of torque... if you are gonna do all that work, why not go EJ and get like 40 more HP? I know money is an issue on the EJ, but still it just seems like a waste for such little results. Either way, have fun.
