  1. carbs suck, ditch the carb. get a SPFI setup, much better and fairly easy to install... iif you wannna go turbo, you have to at least swap the heads, manifold and computer stuff, kinda a hassle, so you might go EJ... a nicely modded ea82t will make the same power as a mostly stock ej22.:-\
  2. sounds like a tstat... how to remove them if your a bit uneasy... LOTS AND LOTS of PB Blaster FTW! soak it on, let it chill, bolts will come free... I usually dont have problems tho.

  5. things to note: there are 3 temps sensors in the XT6... one for the fan, one for the gauge and one for the ECU... isn't that neat? The main fan should come on at half and stay on till the temp drops... at 3/4 both fans come on... or just the smaller AC fan will run if you have the AC on. I say check the rad temp in the lower parts, then check the thermotime fan switch (on the rad) for corosion in the connector... Mine runs at about 1/4 or so unless I run the AC, then its about half.... BTW is your car an auto, if you have tranny issues that can make it run hot too.
  6. I'd say do as mike says... I did this conversion on a BRAT and I put it in the stock brat location... hey speaking of that... you DID get rid of the old fuel pump and filter right?:-\ Also make sure you have a good ground for the pump....
  7. Belts are a fun mess.. but like everyone else said parts stores suck... try getting a dizzy cap from a checker/shucks they give you one, but its just not right... at all. Heres a hint for you though.. stop saying loyale! just ell them you have a 89 GL-10 turbo wagon. you say loyale and they are rare enough that the parts store may not have them listed... its like the Rx... try getting a part from Napa for an Rx... and no, I dont need new apex seals!
  8. I'm gonna try running a 50/50 mix here in my Rx soon... Theres a local guy running E85 all the way in his 2.5 Rs turbo with no issues... you do have to fuel it more, so it gets worse MPG... but it is lots cheaper. I also have some turbo Z injectors and a SAFC to try out on it to go total E85.
  9. first, pull the panel above your legs and check the CEL code. long blinks=10 short =1 watch for a while. Second, let it idle, turn on all your electronics, try to get the V gauge down.... then hop out and check it with a real voltmeter... bet is that the gauge is way off... I have an aftermarket gauge in my Rx... and when it shows 12v, the car shows about 1/8th under the 12 volts... stupid old gauges:mad:
  10. So I had a CEL for the EGR valve and upon closer inspection the wires had been cut. I didnt have a extra so I grabbed a purge control valve and swapped the connectors... now the CEL flashes.... can I not use a purge control for the EGR or do I just have it plugged in backwards?? 88 Rx MPFI Turbo
  11. Quick thing to try on a budget: Step one: Remove T-stat Step two: refill coolant Step three: Throw T-stat at Jeffast Step four: test drive. I had an issue like this with mine... it was stuck half way open, and I was poor, and since its so damn hot anyway, I just took it out for now till I can get to a subbi dealer.

What he said^^ Also let me clarify... its not that the car is over heating, like OVER heating, it just gets damn hot. on these hot days it will approach the line, but usually stays within an 1/8 of it... I just used to have it run with thhe crank fan at about 1/4 and it made the tranny tunnel stay cool, which makes me stay cool... I'll have to look for that fan... Hey.. so we have the same intercooler it looks like... how did you mount that fan to your IC? Its just on a switch I assume?
  14. Whats it out of? Pics? The issue I have is I changed the fluid, but it still does the same, and remember it ran great with the mech fan... I just think I need a extra or different fan..... I'm running the stock ele fan on the pass side, running all the time via jumpered relay. Sounds like its going strong, but its just not enough.:-\

Put this one on the top ten stupid things not to do... 1. try and hold a car doing a burn out... put your foot in front of the car to hold it well 2. get in front of said car, being held by guys to take a picture... stand there for a bit 3. walk in front of said car. Ohh yeah, these guys are real smart.. BTW, from owning 2 Rx-7's.. rotaries sux... I like torque:banana:

What they said^^ I just think in the subaru world, you wont get that, you have to find someone to impulse buy it and not look up the bluebook or what ever... reason I say this is because Noss was given his almost cherry, slightly modded 84 turbo wagon and Mike found a just as nice (except the wheels) same color and year and turboness for like $600... Mike was goona buy it except when we got there, the guy had let some kid pull the plugs and he cross threaded all of them back in:mad:
  18. so you say it only gets fuel when its cranking..? somethings a miss.... there should be 5 power wires, one going to a fusable link you have to install.... the code 5 thing is getting me, I forgot to hook up a power wire when I did my wagon and it gave me a 5... just get your voltmeter out and check at the ecu that it gets power to those ports that it needs.
  19. So we have two cars. First is a 86 turbo wagon with a high comp block... NO crank fan, and the electric is on a switch... Noss claims to not have to turn the fan on much. Second is my 88 Rx. Stock, intercooled, hoodscoop'd... with the crank fan it ran about 1/4-1/2 on the temp. ditched the crank fan and am running the electric on ALL THE TIME and it gets up to about 1/2-3/4. Thoughts? Is my car odd, or is Noss's car special? Any other fan solutions?
