The difference in fenders
kingbobdole replied to kingbobdole's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
HAHAHAHA! -
I'm gonna show up and agree on two counts... first, my XT6 reads about the same as yours...the dash gauge. Its just the sending unit being old. Second, that gauge smells... it barely moves... I got these at walmart, for like $25, but you can go to autozone and get full size gauges for about $30.. complete, no reason not to... My oil pressure gauge moves with the engine RPMs... not all slowly like the dash gauge... Actually I still have the stock one hooked up, and its not anywhere near right... if you are concerned about oil pressures... get a good gauge first...

The difference in fenders
kingbobdole replied to kingbobdole's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's not bent that much, the hit was a bit higher... plus the wing is about a full inch away... I donno. Maybe... but I know for sure that the lower pan is different on the Rx vs the wagon and everything else.... -
Just since I didnt know... and a few other don't know... Wagon fenders will NOT fit a 3 door Rx:mad: First, there are no holes for the air dam... which I was expecting, holes are easy to drill so I got one. But the lower skid plate doesnt even begin to line up at all. Not even the same shape really My car is a bit beat up here, but you can see the fenders front two are wat too far forward.

Brat & XT6 CarbonFiber Hoods
kingbobdole replied to Gravityman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I did I did! Rick posted on the next to last page! He wanted a hood for his xt. -
I'd go ffor a 87.5 xt turbo hood with the stock scoop... and maybe some light covers too.... I might go for an ea82 hood... depending on price..... and affordable is relative here, most of us paid less then $1k for the car, so.... yeah
-
I'm intrested... I "might" be getting one from the korean.... if he decideds not to horde it for himself (since its his:grin: ) I'll go on my 88 RX for now since computers are plentiful for it if I toast it

how bout this everyone.... is there a car out there from the early 90s that uses the same or a similar MAF? Maybe like an MR2 or a nissian or something?
-
changing it from the Maf to the safc would be cake... getting it back on the other had.......:-\

an old Apexi Super Fuel Air converter on an old Ru? It says its vehicle specific, but its such a simple device... maybe some rigging could be done?
-
Well that was quick:brow:

Retorquing is sometimes required during headgasket break in. When metal is heated it expands and contracts when it cools.. When you put new HGs in an engine they will expand and contract the first few hundred miles or so possibably causing the bolts that hold the head to the block to become loose. Retorquing is required on some desingns of HGs so that the bolts do not become looser causing HG failure.

saab intercooler question
kingbobdole replied to 76mgb88rx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have no idea what you are asking, but I'll tell you how to hook it up. There are 3(basically) tubes coming off the recirc valve(which is what I think you are taking about). Theres an input, an out put and a vac line which is the "control". The input should be somewhere after the turbo and before the throttle body, usually best between the IC and the throttle body. The vac line goes to the vac system on the intake manny... I used a T on the area right on the right side of the intake where it has a few existing vac lines. Now the output of the recirc valve needs to go between the MAF and the turbo.. I put mine in the end of the round cylinder thing on the side of the intake... The waste gate is the thing in the exhaust side of the turbo that bypasses the exhaust impeller. There is a big vac actuator on the side of the turbo thats hooked from the act, to thhe fender solenoid and then back to the intake side of the turbo. -

drilled/slotted rotors worth it??
kingbobdole replied to BlindSight's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I use slotteds on my XT6 with ceramic pads... stops 100% better then stock with less heat issues.... but I can still heat them up if I try real hard:banana: -
Can anyone tell me what happened?
kingbobdole replied to jssubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
look and see where the motor is covvered with oil.... maybe check the valve cover vent, then pop the front timing cover off and see if theres oil in there... find where the oil came from and thats the win... is the hose on the valve cover cracked? -
HELP ea82 TBI Problems
kingbobdole replied to mellow65's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So the pump is getting fuel to the injector, but the injector is not firing?... but its getting signal? -
Shawn... cool, I'll take you up on that... I am actually doing a EA82T, but not mine.... we put OEM gaskets into Mikeshoups XT Turbo and it just needs a retorque, but I'd still like to find the tool.... The snap-on guy told Noss he could get one, and they are only about $40 or so.....

Kinda sounds like you poped the cam seal out of it... ... oil was coming from the right front... loss of power... that all adds up... but then it fixes its self? Strange. -
I vote exhaust leak.. make sure you have OEM gaskets in there... the aftermarket ones go south quick!

part number 499987200? Its that special tool to retorque the headgaskets without pulling the cam carriers. Subaru says its discontinued :-\ Or I can make one, I have a welder, I just need to know what lenght extension to use so its not too long.... a basic writeup might be helpful;) Thanks!
