t3h hawt interior pics thread
kingbobdole replied to nicky nighteyes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 6... Thats frost BTW No pic of my subs or stereo:-\ The wags new gauges: -
I'm putting on into my XT-6 and I'll tell you... if I had know how much of a PITA it is.. I'd never have done it... I did what was said first.. cut the mounts off the old rails bolted them to the new ones... and it worked... I woulda kept it that way if I had a sun roof, but the seat was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too high,... so now I'm about 50% done modding my frame rail where the seat sits... what a PITA....

Just an update... I havent touched it... BUT! Broomfield, being the gay city it is, can and will tow the BRAT off my property on the 17th since it has no visable plate on it(its on the back) so I'm gonna solder the like 10 wires to it and weld the dizzy and roll it out before the 17th.

New gauge install with pics and questions.
kingbobdole replied to kingbobdole's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
IIRC the oil pressure is controlled mechanically... the indicator is ONLY for the light on the dash... My wagon didnt come with one since I had a guage stock... so you are safe to unplug it... need a plug? just go to a yard and find a car with a gauge... theres on in there... I have a few of them if you like too -
New gauge install with pics and questions.
kingbobdole replied to kingbobdole's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I knew the AMp gauge was kinda dangreous, so I've been thinking about not hooking it up... Thanks everyone else that had suggestions on my car, it really helps... Kinda, I think I understand what you are asking... but basically on the pic, where I mounted the cap. tube for the new gauge is where the indicator for the light is on turbo cars or cars with out gauges... Mine had a plug... the big round thing below it is the original sender still in place running the gauge on my dash. Thanks.... just wait till June... I'll be vicious:dead: -

Thanks... I love the way my wagon looks too, even matte.. The best time is right after I've washed it and the white letters on the tires are really white again. I always appreciate comments on it... As far as the amp gauge goes, you are right it need to be hooked up "in line" but I'm not sure wheres the best place... I actually ran the wires through the firewall and was corn-fues on what to disconnect to run these through, so I stopped and decided to ask the best of all places..... Jeff... I'm EXTREMELY BUSY at the moment trying to find time to prep the 6 for the trek to The Dragon... but we could probably find some time to break some things. Ok, So I let Noss borrow my wagon and he told me that it puked up some coolant and was generally over heating but the gauge was still showing cold... so I thought he was nuts but went to wally land and baught some cheesy gauges and put them in anyway... It came with a oil pressure, coolant temp and Amp gauge, 2 of which I have hooked up.. the old pressure I sneaked into the turbo light port and retained the stock gauge. Then to hook up the coolant temp I actually pulled the stock sender and replaced it with the new sender... All in all the install went good, except when I forgot to tighten the gauge end of the oil pressure gauge:eek: Ok, now for the questions.. on the temp gauge it barely gets to 190... but Ronis XT Turbo rides at about 210 all the time... is 190 about par for my 87 SPFI? Two... My oil pressure when its cold and being revved will shoot off the gauge to like over 100 psi... but then when its warm it'll go to 80 and then gerk down to 60 (which I'm sure its supposed to do) and trouble with this high oil pressure... Lastly.. Wheres a good place to hook up the AMP gauge? Thanks! Intermittent Wiper control?
kingbobdole replied to mbrickell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I disagree... Mine on my 87 is on the removable panel directly below the steering column... when you take the covers off, theres that little box screwed to one that you have to unplug... sometimes I forget to plug it in... -------------------------------- ~Phil Only lowered FWD 5-speed XT-6 evAR 1987 Lifted "outback" Wagon 84 lifted BRAT kinda for sale Gen 1:32 "and on the end of the sixth day, God created signatures. Uhhhh. no... I was checking her PMs in another window.... anyhoo... NO PROGRESS! I keep having regular work change my schedule and make me work more, then I also keep helping out Don on his 6 and working on Ronis Turbo and putting gauges in the wagoand seats in my 6 and and and and and and and and hopefully I'll finish the 3 things to do on the BRAT and get it running again... The wagons only so fun for so long:-\

I donno... I just put in 3 more gauge in my wagon! lets race up hill on ICE.... I'll take ya:rolleyes:

Kinda.... I've got everything on... I just need to finish up soldering some wires to the fuse box and such, and I'm gonna relay up the ignition wire and such... ohh and the fuel pump... I came down with something and ATM its -10 degrees outside, makes it hard to work on... As far as the dizzys go, I just cut the shaft shorter, but the pin hole is in a different place and at shawns recommendation I'm just gonna weld it:-p I do how ever have a few pics: Home made harness: Dizzy difference.. loyale is on the left, brat on the right: This was what I got done on the first 4 hours of working on it... its muchfarther along now: -------------------------------- ~Phil Only lowered FWD 5-speed XT-6 evAR 1987 Lifted "outback" Wagon 84 lifted BRAT kinda for sale Gen 1:32 "and on the end of the sixth day, God created signatures. uhhh..... 1st thing... your 6 doesnt have a frame. 2nd thing here is a short list of things you will have to do/deal with: 1. Tranny will not match... either change out for a legacy tranny, or get an adapter plate. Personally I'd go leg tranny... that way you can get the clutch/fly hop-ups from imps.... 2. Lower engine mounts will not match up... you can either make custom motor mounts or try using a crossmember from a legacy. 3. engine management... you can either go stock, and pull the harness or be like me and build a harness... or you can go MS... or perfect power... gonna need something.... theres probably more, but this is no small project....

My N/T SPFI wagon has 29's on it and gets up to 80 on the spedo.... last time I was stopped in it the cop said I was going 71 when I thought I was doing 55ish. My fwd XT6 maxxes out at 140:burnout: -------------------------------- ~Phil Only lowered FWD 5-speed XT-6 evAR 1987 Lifted "outback" Wagon 84 lifted BRAT kinda for sale Gen 1:32 "and on the end of the sixth day, God created signatures. I have a 3-4ish lift on my EA82 SPFI wagon and I have 15" rims with 29"s... wal-terrains as Rick has dubbed them... I think power wise it does fine, in fact its pretty quick... I had to do quite a bit of late night fender bashing to make it go though... Trimming? trimming is for people with small hammers! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~Phil Only lowered FWD 5-speed XT-6 evAR 1987 Lifted "outback" Wagon 84 lifted BRAT kinda for sale Gen 1:32 "and on the end of the sixth day, God created signatures. I second the plugs first then o2... o2 sensors are very important to the operation of the EFI system... I'm more familiar with the EA series that you can run with out one... which I did on my SPFI wagon for a while... it got about 22 MPG and smoked going down hill due to being too rich... with it gets about 32 or so... o2s just get old sometimes as well and need replacing... check the owners manual for service intervals, since I dont have any clue about how often it should be done on newer cars

Its like an old ASE question! A:Technician A says its the tranny cooler B:Technician B says Technician A is an idiot. C:Both are correct D:Neither are correct. What'd I'd do is check by taste test... tast the oil and the tranny fluid... have a pepsi handy.. which ever one tastes sweet is the one containing the coolant... you might also run the car(after cold) with the rad cap off of it and lookie for bubbles... usually though if its the HG I'd say the coolant would go into the engine leaving the rsv clean... but if its the tranny cooler, the ATF would end up in the coolant... so my bets on Tech A.... That tech B guy is the idiot... (why wont my smilies work?)

87 carbed to spfi lifted D/R 4wd lsd'd SW with 29's... gets about 28 without exhaust leak, or 22 with... city only.. not much HW 89 2wd XT6 very modded lots light weight spinny things:brow: 22 with lead foot in the city, 26ish highway at about 80 mph... less at 135:rolleyes: 84 carbby stock BRAT d/r 4 speed 12... or less... becoming SPFI;) -
or... you could just go to harbor freight and buy a $15 gauge.....

Very stupid opinion???!!!!!......or truth
kingbobdole replied to bella's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
they also stole engines from VWs... You really cant say anyone "stole" anything from anyone else, they can copy, but its not 100%... usually its updated and made better as it goes, but as far as someone pioneering the first 4wd system.... -
This is with 2 months of use, but I'm pretty sure that they went this way in about 3 days..... this was very loud... Now with OEM, its quite again... and I really didnt save anything going NAPA either:banghead:

uhhhhh...... I have to change the dizzy gear? I didnt know that... Why? And as far as tabs go, just shave it off right? also as far as the fuel pump goes, I'll just do what I did in my wagon, pull the carb pump and replace it with the efi pump, then I have the relays to wire in and I'll just run a new power wire to the back and reatin the stock wire... no sense trying to make the efi pump suck fuel through the stocker... I'm also using the later loyale hot wire maf so the dizzy replacement is a must... Now that I know I have to change the gear, I will probably do it my self, I have a puller

Hey peeps, I did a quick search but couldnt find what I was looking for.... I'm SPFI'n my BRAT and I ran into a few issues. Firstly, I have an idea on the coolant intake to the manifold on the right side, but what did everyone else do? The stock piece will not work off the spfi so I was gonna use the carbbed piece... second is the dizzy... do I just dremel the one arm off and open the adjuster hole or is there a better way? Thats all for now that I remember having an issue with... I got it about half done... oh hey.. I plan to put the ECU on the spare tire "shelf"... plan on using a *gasp* Neon comp box to keep it safe... any better ideas?
