I also would need some advance to get the day off...and that should be planty of time to get my wagon lifted and done. I'd also like to throw out that this should be a swap meet as well for those intrested. I know both Rick and I will bring things... I'll fill my wagon with stuff to sell cheap, so bring some cash:brow:

What do people think of your engine bay?
kingbobdole replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My three engines... I've also added the black line to the bottom of the name plate on the six and swapped the coolant tank for a new one, cuz this one was sooo discolored. The wagons spare is still dirty cuz I forgot to wash it after the last time I went muddin. -
I don't want to copy The Austin, but...

Throttle Body Fuel Injection
kingbobdole replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I disagree with this. Firstly the SPFI can cut fuel completely and would do so, but I think you might get the "dueling banjos" effect where the two fuel systems would try and overtake each other for which was running the show. It does seem complicated, but would result in a more managabe fuel correction instead of just dumping "A" amount of fuel into the engine at "This" time. -
Dude,,,, look at the under side of your hood.... 20 degrees...

Throttle Body Fuel Injection
kingbobdole replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've been to lazy to look at my parts... I was thinking of doing this (since Rick actually brought it up) to my soon to be turbo XT6.... I would think you could add the injector to the existing TB and then wire up the SPFI computer to share all the output of the stock computers sensors then it would also be self correcting.... I just wired up the SPFI for my wagon... I could do it again.. just gotta go dig in the backyard for my parts and glue them togather:drunk: -
My bud in auto class had a early (like 83...85?) TDI jetta... well... it was just a Diesel Turbo at the time it was made. At 250k he hadn't done anything at all to it other then change the oil. We called him Mr.Turtle due to his shiney head and thick glasses, but his car was pimp!
-
Holy cow Forrester_Ranger.... The wiring job in there reminds me of my Christmas tree... any heat/melty/battery drian issues?
-
Your talking about cars that have parts support.... Thats sounds rather custom AND you'd have to make it fit AND find some sort of really wide two piece air filter AND get the MAF to work......AND AND AND... not that I'm shooting you down.. that would look and sound sweet... just seems like more money... well then I PAID for my car.

Crankshaft Pully MADNESS!! 87 EA82T
kingbobdole replied to NuclearBacon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've had more then one on my xt6 fall apart on me... the rubber ring seperates. Right now I have a proecm pulley on it which is one piece and instead of 10 LBs 6 oz like the stock pulley... its 6 ozs!... The only benefit of the rubber ring that I can see is a damper effect for the main bearings from like the A/C switching on and off things like that. Probably the reason you dont see them on all the cars is probably what accessories it has... like A/C.. ALL xt-6s have A/C... ALL Xt-6s have the rubber dampner... Just a theory:drunk: -
No Crank No Start unless I jump from solenoid?
kingbobdole replied to sregor13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My xt6 has had this issue and for me its an easy fix. Basically I'd have to either just hold the ignition in the start spot, or click it a few times to get it to start. Jumping the start solenoid always worked. Anyhoo the fix is a white connector(at least on the six) under the dash above your feet. Mine had gotten burned lightly annd I was able to clean it out, that was about a year ago... more currently its been giving me a hesitation to crank and I'm sure its the same issue. Basically just look under the dash with some contact cleaner and pull apart the connectors one by one and check them, then plug um back in. I recommend getting a "Power Booster Pen" made by CRAG and just coating all the connectors... it works good. Good luck -

What do people think of your engine bay?
kingbobdole replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I usually get the comments on how clean my engines are... I'm kinda a neat freak and point out/complain when I get dirty doing light work on other peoples cars... Then I show them my engine and how I can run my finger over the block and not get it dirty..... -
Ohhh... If anyone needs like turbo engine parts... random XT6 thingies, air induction or carb system for an ea82.... or maybe an EJ22T... gimmie a PM and I'll cart it to this meet for ya.

well... boo for that.... What about output of the sensors? They both do the same thing just in different ways right... what kinda voltage ranges are on both... maybe its time for me to buy a factory manual for an older XT or something.......
-
Hey. I was just wonderin if one could swap the older style flapper maf for the newer hot wire. Whats all involved? What about the ER27 hot wire, is it the same? I did a search, but came up short... thanks guys and gals.

I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
kingbobdole replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can also check the fusalbe link box under the hood... Its easier and if the box is full of links... its a feedback carb and should have an O2.... If theres a spot for one thats gone... its a regular O2 free carb.... Usually its the green one in the front of the box thats gone for the ECU free version, but dont quote me on that -
