  1. You are right about it being the shifter bushings, but I would NOT go with brass ones, that would hurt your hand. I need to do this to my car as well, while in gear you can swing it where ever. Be in 1st and have it look like your in 5th when you turn left, now thats bad:drunk:
  2. I went Saturday before the CO meet that killed Ricks Turbo XT. Actually me and Rick went to Pull n Save where We found an 1987.5 FT4wd Turbo XT I got the intake manifold off of... SWEET!
  3. My XT6 did the same. Put new bosch plugs in to go do some 1/4 miles runs... about the second run out one of them was so foul, it was running on 5 cylinders. NGK all the way.
  4. HAHAHAHAHA The randomness of that second picture is priceless!!!
  5. Hey, Anyone got a rear mount for the XT6 5MT? The whole black thing that mounts to the tranny, and the rod thingy? I need one and could pay you at the meet... I too will be buying cool decals for my wagon
  6. I might be crazy, but that looks like a tercel wagon..... Hey whats an RX 2? post 91 Rx?
  7. Hey, me a bud pulled an ER27 out of a parts car with no problems. Moved it about 50 feet or so into the garage, it wasnt very heavy, I'm a big dude and I could lift it my self, just not out of the car.
  8. *raises hand* I have a question, and some ideas that could make this maunal slightly better. Firstly, number the pages so that one might refer back to them easier. I also personally used the Zip tie technique to bind my little manual as well. Ok, now for the question. I'm gonna try this a little stupider way then the maunal suggests. My plan is to get a Dodge neon style heat box and thorw the computer under the hood, for fun. On the 22nd page of the manual, the one that is actually a scan of section 2-7 page 32 in the FSM, theres a picture of the connectors for the ECU and what they hook up to. I'm thinking that I need to hook up EVERYTHING on this page, is that correct? Also, when I got right into the manual the first thing I discovered is that you should buy the ECU with the same tranny as your car has... DOH! I found this prime Auto and didnt think about the tranny hookups it has and I have a D/R 5 speed. Anyhoo, accroding to the same page as above, there are only two things that differ between the auto and 5 speed and thats pin 13 and 15, the inhibitor sw and the parking sw... What do I need to do with those? Thanks a ton for all the responces, and I would like to say that this manual is really well written! Thanks for all your hard work!
  9. I'm doing this too. Yeah, my carb does get like 30ish MPG in 2wd..... and yes, its slow, very very slow. I just went to a yard and picked up all the parts I needed execpt the two relays(had no clue where they are) and I got out for..... $75 Ba-Zing and I got the gaskets so I'm pretty much ready to roll.
  10. Ohh thats easy.... They didn t need to... and its cheaper not to. 3 reasons for this. A. Subaru didnt go for the "sports car fan" as much as they went for the thrifty guy and fuel ecno dude... I dont know if you noticed, but these things are not fast stock. 2. They were popular, extremely popular, come to Boulder and see.. Just no one really noticed them in the racing scene, see fact A. C. The newer soobs tend to get pricier and pricer when compaired to other "rice" or weeked race cars. The cheapest Soob is like 17-18K for a 2.5 imp... focuses are like 6 grand. or you can buy a ranger and get a free Focus.
  11. I know theres a rotary XT out there too. Its got a hole cut in the hood for the air cleaner, and its running a 12A. I would agree that old rotaries are EXTREMELY hard to get through E-tests. They are gross polluters, and dont get the best milage and they have no torque. I'd be unique but thats about it.
  12. Thanks for that info, My old 87.5 XT turbo would sometimes overboost to 15 psi... wonder if it was the maf..... Good read,
  13. You can just get a transmission from a 2wd turbo XT as well.
  14. Ok, my mistake. Rereading the book tells me 20 MPH or less to shift into Lo. Also pushbutton 4wd is on the fly, no clutch needed. Actually the book states: Maximum Speed Limits Never drive with the tachometer needle in the critical engine speed range except for breif acceleration in an emergency. And thats right in the 4wd section!
  15. Does it crank? Does it run but stall? Do the engine lights not come on?
  16. First thing to get is the repair history on the rear wheel bearings and the auto tranny. Those are the two biggest things for the SVX to break. First thing to know about SVXes, it may be $1k for the car, which is a steal by the way, but the parts are NOT cheap. SVXes are expensive to repair and maintain. As far as the shuddering when braking goes, the rotors in the front are warped, easy fix, just do a front brake job. What does dropping a cylinder mean? is it missing? Probably ign related, replace all wires cap rotor and plugs, that might clear it up. Check the tranny fluid for color, listen for any strange noises, play with the throttle and make sure it shifts good. Just be advised if it breaks, which it will at around 200k, its not goona be cheap to fix. Also, on the last bit of milage, SVX engines are very good, 200K sounds like its just broke in:drunk:
  17. I'm intrested on where exactly you plan to place side drafts in the small confines of the ru. 2 things of note. First on the stock air box, usually they use a style of built in velocity stacks, do your best to keep those around, they help. Secondly, from my experances with old Datsun 240Zs, dont worry about that coolant line. In the Z the lines run through the intake manifold to heat it, but its not a very efficent way of doing things, so it really doesnt seems to matter if you use it or not. Also check old 240s intake air boxes for those velocity stacks, they have them too. Good luck and keep us up to date
  18. DOH! It was under Misc, I looked under transmissions. Thanks skip
  19. I followed a link somewhere and got to a really good write up for what to look for when pulling a transmission in a yard. It might have been a members site, I'mpretty sure it was, but now I cannot find it. It deals with signs to follow for whats a good tranny AT mind you and whats to avoid. Thanks a ton
  20. actually you can shift in and out of 4wd lo when moving. The book says 35 mph and below and clutch is a must. I also use the clutch when even I shift it, where ever I shift it, no noise no problems.
