  1. I talked to the guy who owned these brats, you definitely bought the better one. I cant imagine the whole car would have to be rewired either
  2. Your brat has a solid lifter block EA81, unless someone changed the engine. You can be positive that your engine is ea81 by checking the stamp on the engine block to the left of the distributor.
  3. Same here. Used it yesterday. They are out there still. The ones I had been using have all been patched. Anything that says "motorweb" in the URL is a no go, from my experiences.
  4. Small hijack: Is that a legacy scoop on that GL coupe? looks really good on there.
  5. Twin carb? Jealous Definitely is in the top ranks for my favorite hatch now. Superb job.
  6. Ea81? if it is... Well, I just did my cylinder a few months back and this is how I did it: Remove the plastic cover around steering column, steering wheel, combination switch, unbolt the steering column then remove the two spring actuators that attach to the bracket that pivots. As you will be able to see, there are 4 bolts on the lock cylinder (10 mm if I remember correctly) and not much clearance to get them out. I took them out with a regular combo wrench, and a lot of patience. After those are out, a little tappy and it should slide right off the shaft. I'll bet some other board members have done other things, but this has worked just fine for me! Hope this helps T.J
  7. Dude... Your brat changes genders? Hah!
  8. Always nice to see another Texan join. Welcome. I think someone on here has built a Subaru trike. Try doing some searching and see if you find it
  9. The extendable 3/8 1/4 ratchet... I have done SOO much cheater-baring on this thing. Still strong. Had for a year and a half The Chicago Electric 1/2" impact gun. Done things the dewalt couldn't. Although the brushes did come out one time :-p then superglue happened Their colored sockets aren't too bad either. Only broke a single 12 point 3/8 while using a stepdown with a cheater bar. Cant weld with the sticks they sell, complete garbage. Makes me cherish the Lincolns. Overall, they have made my father & I money. So that's good

    Datsaru

The decoding of "datsaru" dats a ru. Otherwise known as "Thats A Roo" I like your thinking my friend
  11. My recommendation https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php No sanding, just pre-dip spray. or just alcohol Check the DYC forum for pics. there is a whole sub-forum for wheels. And 50+ videos of dipping on youtube
  12. Mine was cracked, and it leaked oil. My temporary solution was electrical tape. I see you had the EGR off. Really must have sucked getting that thing off, putting the new valve in, only to break the hose.
  13. Wow, 8 months later. I would have written this off. Nice to see youre still on the case
  14. Nice go with the plasti dip. I'll be doing that to my entire brat next couple of months, until I have enough $$ to lay some good paint on it.
  15. No compression at all? Could be stuck rings. Low compression? Head gasket. You say the motor was seized, thats pretty indicative of frozen rings in my experiences. Judging by what I have read: If youre not worried about keeping it "original" youre much better off with an EA81. I know I love mine Just my two cents though. T.J

    Snow!

Heres some texas snow for ya! I know, its almost an oxymoron
  19. A very late update: The timing advance i purchased from O'reillys was from a 1982 civic (The one in the link on the first page) Everything checked out, so i brought it home and swapped the sleeve and spring from the old advance. Once bolted up to the Brat it started up, as usual. Upon depressing the accelerator, there seemed to be a sweet spot at which the engine would rev, and only to about 5K. When you would floor it: bogging and backfire. This was due to the arm being longer on the new advance. So, I redrilled the advance tabs to compensate for the difference in length, and volla! Perfect running rubber-burnin' Brat once more. It has been two weeks since the new advance has been on and i have yet to experience an issue. Very happy with the results, no missing at all now. Thanks to everyone who helped out on this issue T.J
