  1. A sign that it may be original...? "1982 PBA Booster"
  2. Yes it is a Gen 2. 82 Brat DL. The only other one I've ever seen was also on an 82. I can't find the restoration thread, but I'll try and get some pictures up later today.
  3. I just successfully removed a rear window out of a brat with a very supple and pliable seal. Only thing is it's a single piece window. Will it interchange with the sliding one? Need to be sure before I put it up for sale. Thanks.
  4. Picked up this forlorn thing that was sunk down to the rims in dirt... 82 DL hard top 77k on the clock. Judging by the shifter - I believe it! Sat forever. Rusted pretty bad. Has the jump seats, frame, headrests and seat belts. Plus I'm gonna use the 4speed in the Turbo. 5 speed D/R are non existent down here. Had to rob the wheels of the turbo for the time being to be able to get the orange one home Stripping/pulling the motor - Everything is out except the pedal box Currently working on finding a vacuum advance for the Turbo Brat. May have to buy a new distributor. Got a rebuild kit ordered for the turbo. Boost gauge stays pegged. Few more little things and I'll have it on the road. Gonna remove the "lift" that is has and throw the 2wd struts I have on there with a coil or two cut, as well. Progress is slow, but it's happening. Hope to finish up the one with the green tailgate this year. Making the one with a camper into a trailer. Weekend the turbo, and scrap the remains of the orange thing. Lots to do between work and school!
  5. Inlet screen on the pump was clogged pretty hardcore. Compressed air and some carb cleaner seemed to clean it up pretty well. Tank needs a good cleaning. Car runs much better, now. If someone could tell me how to set base timing that'd be great. I cant seem to find it in the FSM. Found a cardone reman distributor for just shy of $200. I tried to contact Philbin, but I've yet to receive a response. Still waiting to pull the trigger on that. Progress is progress. Some better than none.
  6. Saw this thing on Instagram. One of my favorite original 1st gens. Has the cool (IMO) camper, too! Enjoy it. Sounds like you already are. Welcome to the forum!
  7. Fuel pump is making death noises. Works when it wants. Stalls sometimes when fuel pump whines bad. Have not done compression test. I hooked up a smoke tester when I was putting the motor back together and the only leak was at the inlet with the brittle hose on the maf to turbo. But I fixed that. Are there connectors for setting base timing like EA82? I just set it to TDC and adjusted it till it sounded happy. Injectors ohmd out fine. I need to get a DSO and see if the driver is grounding them properly. They all have 12v Vacuum advance is toast... Go figure. Guess I need one of those, too. What's the chances of sourcing one of those? Called all my local dealers. "our database goes back to 85"
  8. I'm just looking to probe the minds of Gurus... I'm finding it difficult to find much information on these beasts. What are some good things to check/verify on my Brat. I know fuel pressure is a big deal. I put a new O2 in it. There's no ECS light on. It idles a little rough and bogs pretty hard. I'm pretty sure that's fuel related. Will an SPFI pump work? Or should I go the F-series approach? There's only 90k on the clock. I want to be able to take this thing out on the weekend. Spring is coming! Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  9. I've seen one pre 90 Subaru in the junk yard in the past 4 years.
  10. Alright, guys... I appreciate it. Guess ill be in the market for a EA82 turbo soon. Thanks again.
  11. Does anyone know were I can source a rebuild kit for the turbo on my Brat? I'm seeing some stuff on ebay but I cant make any sense out of it. If I could get a link or definite answer on whether or not it can be rebuilt, that'd be great. I couldn't find anything from searching, other than the type of turbo. Thanks, again...
  12. Got it running. I was surprised that everything was/is still in the car to throw the motor back together. It runs decently smooth. I dont know how old this gas is. Lol I think it's gonna need a turbo or a rebuild if that's possible on a vf1. It's blowing oil out the exhaust :/ I'll get some more pics and a video up later
  13. For those who like a story: This thing came up for sale in November. I was 3 days late to the CL posting. The ad read "1984 Subaru Brat - $600" I glanced at the ad. Horrendous choice in colors. Back to the future inspired maybe... I looked at the interior pictures. I saw an automatic shifter. "Ew" I thought. The next picture was of the fun tops. It probably took me a solid minute to figure out that something was weird. The only auto brats I've seen have ALL been either hardtop or turbo. My pulse started to rise and when I clicked on the picture of the engine bay I nearly lost it. Of all Subarus to pop up in DFW - a Turbo Brat. It was all hands on deck at that point. I shot him a text and got an address. I went and pulled the money out of the bank. And went on my way. The guy was DESPERATE to get rid of it. Claimed everyone had been flaking out. The thing looked like it hadn't been touched in ages. Someone had started tearing it apart it looks like. All the accessories were inside the car and bolts strewn about all over. Nice. But everything looked like it was there. Has a 2" lift. ODO read 90k. Guy said he bought it to STI swap and lost interest. I was in my S13 so I couldn't exactly tow it. He wouldn't accept money unless it came off his driveway. I was too stubborn to call a flatbed, so I walked away. My Grandpa was out of town so I couldn't use his truck. Ultimately it sold before I could arrange transport. I was pretty bummed, but it was my own fault. I searched everyday too see if the new owner would pop up on here. And they never did. Then one day I'm on CL doing a sweep for a decent car to flip and I see the same Brat listed. I nearly lost it. I Had another chance. I offered the guy my S13 as trade and he was stoked about the deal. Who wouldn't be? Running and driving 240sx for a non running Brat that he had no comprehension of the mechanics of. I got a trailer, and I set forth to pick up my blue lobster and bring it home where it would be cared for. For those who got a headache from the amount of pointless text: have some pictures I tore the top end apart today... And found bank 2 full of coolant. Stripped intake bolt. Coolant looked fresh. Guess the guy who bought it tried to get it going somewhat. The gasket was TOAST. Hopefully that's all that kept this thing from running normal. Slowly replacing rubber hoses and things I see that want attention. This is a new learning experience for me and Im looking forward to the challenge.
  14. This is what I currently have. If someone could provide me with a picture/colors of what the knock sensor wires hook up to on the female end I would appreciate it. Right now I have Red-Red; White-black; shielding-black That was my best guess. Also... WTF is this I can't find where it's supposed to go.
  15. So... long story short - I ended up with a 1984 Turbo Brat. Looks like a previous owner went to town on the wiring. The distributor is the only thing that raises a red flag right now. I have a 1984 FSM but the last hundred pages or so are missing which means next to NO wiring diagrams. Being that there is so little info (that I can find) on specifics regarding the EA81T I'm looking for some guidance until/if I get another FSM. I can tell from AllData that there is supposed to be a main connector that the wires connect to. There is also a crude diagram which seems to suggest where some of the wires go. But there are no colors, etc. From what I've read so far these motors seem to be pretty particular on what goes where (duh ), so id like to get this right the first time before I fry a piece of rare circuitry that I may not be able to replace. Assuming that the PO hasn't taken care of that for me already. As usual - any, and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'll have pictures of the Brat up as soon as I'm home when there's still daylight.
  16. Man... That thing rocks my socks. Ball park on what you'll ask for it? I need to start saving , seeing as how I'm right around the corner from you (Carrollton) and dont have a 1st Gen.
  17. The one I changed on my buddy's was a 1980 Courier. Bleeder on front. Remote reservoir. Like I said... Pretty much identical. Not sure what the dimensions were.
  18. Identical to a late model Ford Courier/Mazda B2000... Interesting mistake, for sure...
  19. Thanks for the input, everyone. Think I'm going to pick them up this weekend, depending on the mfg. date. Will post pictures when I get then.
  20. There's a guy local to me that has a set of 4 raised white letter 205/60/13 Cooper Cobra Radial GT. Brand new never seen pavement. Still with the blue protective coating on the letters. He's asking $360 for the set! Can anyone provide some insight as to whether this is a good price or not? I know these are pure unobtanium, but id still like some input. Thanks guys.
  21. Such a great deal for someone who could get out there. The winch bumper is probably worth half of the asking price. If I could sell the 84 fast enough I'd be on this so quick. An 81 quad with a roll bar and winch bumper. That's just a dream.
