  1. the 2.0 turbo pistons are weaker than ea81 pistons doubt that i have sets of both out will look agian. Sory to tell you but i just put the 2.0 piston in the ea block to confirm and its a exact fitt to tight if anything. I a'm wrong somtimes thats why i check with the actual parts this do's not lie better check your specs agian.

  3. posibly damaged the tourque converter on reinstall the lockup is in tourque and is very easaly damaged if not all the way in on install has orings on shat that seal lockup mabee oring got damaged or was forced together when tourque was not all way in did it work good before ? have seen two that were ruined thiss way it cracked the pump housing and damaged the tourque splines had to change the center support in trans and tourque converter. Is the speedo working properly ? and check trans and engine main grounds on engine are not loose
  4. moog ball joints suck i will never use them ever more money and dont fitt and boots are crapy and dont fitt ball joint and let dirt in yuk get a beck arndly or a made in japan one moog just sub lets there part manufactureing out to cheapest bidder no i do like them ivan i a'm sorry to mutch dr zuese
  5. why whould you use 1600 pistons as they are very weak and break easly when a ej 2.0 piston go's right in the 1600 piston has two thick rings and fails between the comp rings the ej 2.0 piston has pin rings and better aluminum or at least a ea 82 piston has better ring spacing the 1600 ones are just to weak to be reliable have broke many in stock 1600 cars is the only problem ive seen in the 1600
  6. test for coil pull wires off one at time about a inch from coil spark should be able to jump gap when running make shure use gloves and insalated plyers if has good spark is ok. Have only seen coil fail by tracing to ground bolt or burning a trace inside the coil outputs. but just losing spark never have seen the odd ig mod loose one side of coil but makes two dead cly at same time ether 2/4 or1/3. I whoud still gess valve damage have seen the valves get just touched barly but enuff that will still run but valves are not strait but still seal was commen on the later roler train 2.2
  7. retouquing whouldent hurt but i whould gess that the head or block surface could be bad i have seen up to 6 thow warp on tops of cly so no mater how good the gasket is it just cant seal. We are going to try for fun surfacing a whole short block asembled and see how that works. I tourque the head bolts 90-90 but then i check and recheck the bolts about 3 times each bolt to make shure that they are all the same have had some that once all the bolts are tight i find that others are slightly backed off mabee cause the gasket compresing

  9. A justy alt might be lighter and have shaved the intakes before have had to do alot to try and cut wheight on the mud dragster to make it less front heavy. Cut off all the extra ears brackets ect whent to header instead of cast. Opps not the buggy where working on. The other option is to get more out of the ea81 was just below the hp spec needed thought that mabee tbi on it could bring up the hp i have it on my 81 brat engine works well and makes good power but have no idea what hp its actualy making any one know 81 ea81 with loyale TBI makes ? hp there are no specs for thiss setup

Heres the real problem its not mine so every mod has to be aproved by owner he has spent lots of time and money trying to cut wheight and reposition wheight my job is as the engine builder to get the engine to the exact wheight specifyed. I'm not working on the machine just the engine witch makes it difacult to solve.Its up to me to reduce the engine wheight not craft wheight. Is a bitt frustrating but i like the chalenge keep up the good ideas.
  12. sound just fine its normal to have low oil preshure at idle with ea82 if you whant more stretch the oil relieve valve springs in the top of heads to bring it up as theese control the oil preshure in the ea82 engine. If its not ticken then no problems when oil preshure is to low they tick like crazy.
  13. the eraly legacys had the false headgasket problem the red oring were the two halfs of the block go toghther had ishsues with leaking coolant into pan and making milky oil very hard to pinpoint and was temp related and whole engine had to be torn down have seen it about 3 times when pan was off with preshure on rad you could see the coolant drips coming from block.
  14. this type of problem solving is hard thiss is good to get other peoples ideas. There is a flywheel so we could start there it dosent need to be the same wheight as a ea81 because it makes more power. But it needs to be lighter the engine cant be moved and more hp whould not help as prop is setup for max 120 hp. It uses two engines a small rotax for lift and a ej1.8 for thrust. 50 lbs is alot to remove but i think it could be done. The benifits to having the ej in place of the ea have to be wheighed the ej makes more hp and tourque and has efi witch gives it relability but the ea is lighter but carbed.Thanks for the ideas will keep you guys posted on the end results.
  15. the heater core may be partaly pluged will slow coolant and make gurling sound shouldent realy matter make shure you recheck level after its cooled down may have to be topped off

  16. the tunnel is to small has to be hammerd out a bitt there is no drive shaft mounting holes have to plate it or cut mounts off old car and weld them in new car shifter hole mods but rest should just bolt up use eveything from the doner car
  17. the 1.8 heads are small valves whould use the 2.2 heads the washer whould be pickapart item mind you i have dozens of those heads i'm triping over dayly clevite berrings are top notch no problems ive seen sent out dozens of motors with clevite berrings make shure you only use subaru seals and orings on bottom end very important to get a good sealing
  18. what model is kinda erelavent its ether 2.2 or 2.5 the only thing that whould matter is if it had egr on it or not the rest is same i put a 92 legacy 2.2 in 98 outback other day and other than egr worked fine had to use the outback wire haness on legacy engine and tb and idle motor.
  19. its a exhaust recycle valve is not used with your carb setup plug it off and deleate
  20. Have a customer that has a hovercraft has a ea81 engine we put in a ej18 to up the power but was a bitt heavyer so he was having trubble getting the back end up. So the problem to solve is how do we take 50 lbs of of a ej 1.8 any ideas? have thought of trimming off edges and ears brackets and drilling holes in bell housing lighter crank pully mabee even titaium bolts lighter timing components.He has even whent from wood prop to carbon fiber prop but still have to lighten engine give me some ideas boys
  21. flush with bevel I like to put a film of ultra grey around seal to garentie will not come loose as seal should be instaled when the block halfs are asembeld the halfs of the block actualy clamp the seal in place so when you try to push it in after the fact it can be very tight and dosent always seal where the block seam is.
