ivans imports replied to ABawm 88 GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hill holer if disconected Must be in the relaxed position if alowed to move can change the braking ability the netral position is where the spring is in the non tention position lock it there do not alow it to float -
ok here it is under the valve cover u will see a tube with holes the holdown for thiss tube is the oil pump relive valve has a plunger with a spring that regulates how muth preshure go's to lifters take out that 14 mm retaier bolt stretch the spring about 1/2 to 3/4 longer and reinstall try that has worked for me many times

0.20 mm intake 0.25mm exhaust you can check the clearance by putting cam in place hold it down and meshure clearance the cam do's not need to be bolted down just held down it will take some time and trial and error but at least you know to check it will save mutch greif i mark them all ps or dsin 1 exds1 like that and use a egg carton to keep them seperated always back where they came from but still meshure them and i find lots that aren't right even from factory u can addjust the clearance by takeing a slight bitt off the end of valve with valve grinder takes time pacenice

way better to use efi i get the syestems down to a very small harness then the engine runs like its ment to and the computer has way better control of af ratios timing ect run the efi if you can -
turbo one look like same ones little bitt different but same thing the turbo blocks are stronger so that helps still a weak gasket just a stronger block less prone to warp or cly walk[ yes cly walk ] witch is the main headgasket problem the barrels move and tear the headgasket back and fourth till it fails turbo ones have 4 added block supports to prevent thiss

mabee thiss got missed the rad can only be filled properly when car is not running with bleeder plug open fill rad till comes out bleeder and wait for last of bubbles to get out the fill takes about a 1/2 hour to 45 is a slow fill i think people lose patencie and dont fill it enuff or run engine and airate the coolant always fill subarus not running

if you can show me some pictures i may have some ideas stock air box ? wire harness. The tps when it go's bad will give you dead spots in one place on throttle but should get better when you go below or above that it whould act up every time at same place in throttle. check main engine grounds and power distribution do you have a tach ? stock or aftermarket feul pump configuration and probly most important the elavation sensor and baro senser the cars know how thin the air is so should your plane.

drill holes and plate it or run it have seen them run with one bell huseing bolt as long as is not broke where dowells are should be ok make sure broke pices are still in place could probly do some small welds without hurting block find a good aluimminum fabracator to look at it have seen some impresive welding on broken blocks as long as its kept cool in right places shouldent be problem to weld

Sticking valves Spider 82T engine .
ivans imports replied to discopotato03's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the hydrolic lifter cups come out of heads a bitt and will not alow the valves to close they can be pressed back with lifters removed and can be easly checked with valve cover off make shure all are about 1/2 a mm above the deck of head or flush is ok any higher need to be pushed back or you have a guide thats sliped down and holding valve up or you washed it down and trashed rings -
linkage sticking or ran at one rpm to long or iceing up Tb remember not ment to be in cold enviroment is uhasly under warm hood i think iceing up is limited heating on Tb mabee needs a extra coolant heater in air intake i see it in carbed vehicles all the time mostly on high humidity days have seen the whole carb blocked with ice and many planes crash cause of thiss on a car you just stop and let it warm up on a plane ummm how long can you glide for ? have been helping some airplane subaru guys here and there the 2.5 scares me is not known as a good engine in subaru world why 2.5 ? and not a 2.2 ?

rare to see a bad rad cause it to overheat fast rad is uhasaly on hills or after a bitt of driveing sounds like air lock and not proper bleed procedure but probly wreaked headgaskets from low coolant level most likly water pump was leaking level got low and engine overheated use shop air in cly to identify whitch cly has blown headgasket put 120 psi in cly and check for bubbles in rad if so needs headgasket thiss works evry time and dose not lie cly must be at tdc and will have to hold crank with bar i use a gutted comp tester with blow gun with high preshure hoses to join them
-
i agree i think the timing belt would outlast the headgaskets in most cases what your missing is how mutch damage the block and head surfaces get from running with a blow headgasket the last block i planed took 4 thow just to remove the burn away from around the cly and most take anywhere from 2-6 thow to get a clean surface the longer its gone the more damage and when you do gaskets the block surface is uhasly to bad to get a prefect seal so repeat headgasket failure is commen i do headgaskets rods mains rings and block and head surface now on everyone thats over 150000kms or been runing with blown head gasket just to cover my butt they work good and very few combacks

feul lines on backwards ? or pinched wire harness or no ground check where the main engine harness plugs together mabee dident plug in properly sometimes the pins get bent and miss the conector
