all subaru engines have head gasket problems always have i'm doing heads on a 06 outback with 90000kms on it leaking oil on exhaust will be the thrid 06 thiss year for headgaskets all under 100000kms as far as i know they still havent fixed the problem the cars just arn't old enuff yet to see how long the headgaskets hold up check the lower ds head seam for oil leaks

hole is erelavent no problem is just a casting mark the problem is the seal behind the drive gear it gets hardend and will pull air past it and alow air to get in oil the seal should be replaced with a subaru one the old ones where black and new ones are brown carfull not to break the oil pump shaft retainer nut is a bitt weak i clamp the oil pump shaft in vice between two pices of wood to undo the retainer nut the oilpump gears are relativly cheap from subaru i whould change them while your in there the last set i got were like 50 $ change the micky mouse oring and the oil pump houseing oring and brown seal and tick should be gone. If not check the oil pump relef valves located in top of cly heads above the cams is a 14 mm nut with sping and valve in it the springs loose tention so stretch it a bitt and reinstall theese valves control how mutch preshure is regulated in engine

sti update the berrings are worn to copper ruined the crank rods block pistons ect cams are badly worn and heads lots of meatal whent into it. Found no cracked pickup and was no blueing on crank had not been run out of oil or overheated just failed rod berrings. Have one coming today 05 forester same deal rattleing rod berrings low miles just worn out thiss will be the 6 one in row all failed rod berrings i think thiss is just the tip of iceberg i cant get bottom ends biult fast enuff

mabee for ac syestem use the stock ground switch to turn on a groud side of a relay that turns on the fan or ecu signal to turn on relay i use a subaru headlight realy they are strong and easy to find

wow the parts look like the inside of a justy trany exactly scary the problem is that the one side of the drum gets super loaded and will take out the berring eventualy in the justys they put a 12 ball berring on the one side to help it but is just to mutch side load to hold up a'm very sceptical about the longgevity of thiss trans and the rebiuld cost whould be hudge

the turbo screen is part of the problem but the bigger pictrure is there is a valving to hold the oil preshure in the cams for the vanos so it will not send enuff oil to turbo if its a bitt low on preshure i think the vanos and hydrolic cam gears take to mutch oil away from turbo and it starves i have one here from 2010 turbo legacy has only 500 kms on it toast dealer put new turbo on car and it failed imedatly on further inspection tech found oil preshure valve jamed and not flowing the tech said he only gets paid for r@r not for diagnoseing problem so he dident care just put a new one on and kick it out the door anyway the new turbo engines are the ea82 T all over agian I dont like the setup for turbo oil prushure line to mutch to go wrong

nope not easaly if heads are off finish the job and do the bottom end its a lot more work but you will be happyer with the results you could rock the crank back and forth see if any play but is very hard to tell i listen when i start them any noise on startup knocking that go's away after a few seconds if any nosie i put in berrings if its a 2.5 d and it has more than 200000kms needs berrings even if it ran good have seen many engines die right after head job then its trashed if you do it now it will give you many years of good service. it takes me about 2;45 min to pull engine and strip it to crank good luck with it
-
should have a pin to center it on cam make shure you put cam gears back on the cams they came off of they are all clearly marked if its a 4 cam if its single cam not maked but only go one way warning the bottom ends of theese engines are weak so i do berrings now every time i do headgaskets or at least check oil preshure first sucks to do headgaskets just to throw a rod

check the wire harness on the brown realy on top of colloum its the efi realy has a habbit of coming partaly unpluged or going bad it makes the conection to keep car runing after startup or feul pump realy and make shure coil grounds are clean and distributor has to be grounded to engine and check the fuses just for fun
