  1. the best 2.5 is the 95-96 with big pistons the aluminum is cast like the 2.2 b bitt different quality of casting and the biger pistons are not as prone to slap

Hey at least you know your injectors are moving feul but mabee there not stoping had one when i did the heads the injectors kept driping feul after engine was shut off intake was still atached to car and it just sat there driping feul the injectors were faulty a problem like thiss whould make for bad malaige would use gas just sitting you can get bad milage not even driving
  3. Low / reverse clutch pack is very last part in trans at very bottom of case if the reverse pack is gone will have no reverse and low wont work properly tourque converters only fail when installed inproperly but the orings that seal tourque converter fail alot and are easaly damaged
  4. I modifyed a stock 2.5 headgasket to acomadate the 2.2 heads had to drill 13 holes in very specific spots but will work fine i agree with gd cometic headgasket is smoke and miriors the block and head surface is ten times more inportant than the headgasket fancy headgaskets whont take up clearance any better than stock one. All the blocks i plane have low barrels by a cupple thow the planer misses the top of barrel first two- three passes i think the blocks get warped and damaged more than anyone thinks
  5. I have to pull exhaust studs and intake pins then i just jig it up and plane them takes about 1/2 hour each valves in needs to be clean and dry. The block halfs are a bitt harder to plane takes some difacult jiging up but they come out very good and gasket sealing is not a problem when both head and block are planed. Oh that post about engines thats 3 different engines not one

Carefull we had a jdm twin cam engine here had vvt on it and was not even close to a north american one different heads had the variable cam gears and different efi on it we used it but had to make custom wire harness and get matched ecu we also could not find any wire diagrams for it was pain but alsome engine 190 hp na its in a 91 loyale now just rips. Make shure you know what you are buying cheers.

Check tire preshures i run 35 front and 32 rear also check feul fillter a pluged one will drop milage i c thiss alot causes the feul preshure to run to high when you dont demand and not enuff under demand. All the ej subarus i c get 300km on 30$ consistantly at 135-140 a Liter. Check filler spout is not leaking likes to leak above half tank if bad.
  9. i rebiuld a few is diffacult to reinstall the piston i bet its rusty if you remove it a wire wheel or 600 gt sandpaper cleanup piston and reinstall. I just bought rebiuld kitts for my 80 brat and i think the subaru dealers can get you a rebiuld kitt was easy to do and the newer ones dont have park brake atached. The only hard part is seating the lip seal for piston i found that is i lube it well with brake lube and gentaly twist the piston in thiss works best do not force piston should slide in with little resistance

Deck the heads and block both i like the 2.5 with 2.2 crank and rods and 2.5 turbo pistons makes a 2.3 destroker plane the block plane the heads put a turbo on it watch out the 2.2 we use a 2.2 b with 2.5 single cam heads and turbo it gives a good comp ratio and big volume heads or the 2.2 with 2.5 dohc heads works good to turbo or na the 1.8 we put the 2.2 turbo heads on it to lower comp and increase the flow then turbo it. The best one yet is the 09 sti short block with 98 2.5 dohc heads on it 10 psi of boost in my 79 wagon with high low thiss engine is fast. The race buggy uses a .50 over phase 2 2.5 with forged wiscos and 2.5 single cam ported and polished heads with 10 psi boost and 50 hp nitrios 2800 high stall and 4.44 gears thiss moter works very well comp tests out at 145 psi.
  12. filler spouts here in canada they are 145-275 $ depending on app some have soiliniods atached and more lines they have to be looked up by vin # at dealer. The roads here are very salty and realy atacks them lately its been 96-98 outbacks and 00-03 foresters they legacys seem to holdup better less offroad i fugure.

Feul return line i drill out the return spigot and use the spigot of of a carb tap the tank to match spigot i put about ten inch of meatal feul line sodered to the spigot thread it into tank making shure the meatal feul line is close to bottom of tank thiss makes a good return line and dosent airate the feul have done many thiss way needs to have at least a 5/16 return line or cant move enuff feul.

  15. Have at least 6 good 1600 and 3 for parts just ended up with lots for some reson have a realy good 79 one with ea82 carb on it runs very good still in 77 wagon the 80 brat i just bought had 3 engines in back heater cores thats a chalenge
  16. Shop air in cyl cheap head gasket tester works evrytime is your water pump turning properly mabee sliping ? but probly headgaskets i put 120 psi in cly at tdc and watch for bubbles in rad if bubbles headgasket if not somthing else
  17. not around here evry 2.2 i c has 250000kms or better on it driven through the mountains and baged i havenet even seen a 2.2 under 200000kms i whould rather rebiuld them and know its good the one i just did rebiult short block go's for 1250 cost me 350 to biuld and i sell evry one as fast as i can biuld them total bill to put 2.2 into 04 impreza head set water pump timing belt clutch surface heads ect 3044.63 with one year unconditional waranty i cant biuld them fast enuff. My short blocks are gold even the dealers buy them. Theres a pile of them out there and none have come back yet. If somone was to ask me the single most important part on subaru moter to change it whuold be the rod berring leave everything else if you like but change the rod berrings single most commen engine killer that ruins the engine. I'm not saying used engines are bad but i cant sell them with waranty and they are scarce round here

Dont waste your time at dealer go to the bigest trans shop u can find and ask them to let you pick trough there oring and seal pile one trans gasket set has alot of the same orings dealer gos on the trans are not repairabble policy useless i have five or six of theese tranny kits here if you stuck to find it.
  20. Make shure the small oring on input shaft is good very commen to be overlooked and very important and stake the front seal in check the front pump bushing while your there likes to walk out of its bore.
  21. Plane the pump houseing down a bitt move it closer to block might help take up clearance they can be realy bad and still no problems have seen a 1/4 inch of where and no problems the pumps going to work regardless if was a ej engine whould be worried but ea82 it will be fine
  22. Had a pile with pin holes in filler spout one tiny hole will set check engine light the filler has a plastic cover that holds gravel and rubs trough the filler any gas smell ? or a spark plug has burned off the tip or feul preshure. There may also be a idle kicker for headlights may not like your hids

Mabee carb leaking feul prehsue down or iceing my 77 brat and 80 brat both were haveing a problem with pickup in tank pluging had to blowout the lines into the tank i think there is somkind of sock in there gos bad. Both will drain back into tank when sitting i can here the pump go fast then slowdown when it gets feul takes 30 seconds only after sat more than 2 hours
