  4. had two unhappy customers in ten years both when i sold a car for somone else have been fixing subarus for 15 years and have done thousands of them my shop only works on subarus and 90 % of my work is cleaning up other shops mess but its buyer beware if you dont know what the shop is doing or replacing it you fault know what you are buying expecting the shop to know is a bad mistake leting them throw parts at your car and gessing is unactcepible most of the substandard work i c is from the dealer becuse they get piad by the job and rush evrything so they get paid the qauality suffers because of thiss and the dealer like to take short cuts to save money on waranty eg not surfacing heads orbital grinders and ignoreing commen problems the best is when the customer complains and they say well we fixed that problem we fired that guy so problems fixed dosent help the car any sorry rant rant rant
  5. ive done my share of heads who cares what the book says i go by what the robot in japan do's have you tried to take those bolts off when there factory touqed garentie you not 15 lbs iv'e never broke any and never had any come loose and i threw my torque wrench away cause it was a liar all my engines are personaly hand toruqed with a strait bar
  6. dont mes with heads its hard to change giudes and have them stay in place just sevice valves and leave rest alone upgrade the rods to ea82 rod and berrings as they are stronger and wider berrings i whould put in ea82 pistons or ej2.0 pistons as the ea81 pistons were prone to breaking between rings check the lifters make shure bottoms are not hammerd have seen valve trains go 400000kms no problem oh and it helps to hili coil the head bolts that hold the valve train on
  7. ending up with a pile of dead 2.0 l engines seem to be a bitt weak have heads botom ends colecting cores but i dont use the 2.0 moters just two small what should i do with them ?

  15. distributor gos in on o mark on flywheel at #one spot on distributor if backfires turn distributor 180 and reinstall try agian commen to have it 180 out can go in two ways one is exhaust stroke one is compreshion stroke
  16. when they came loose the lifters pumped up to max hight when you titend them up they held the valves open till they beld down takes a bitt the lifter has a one way check valve in it so the pump up very easy and bleed down very slowly shouldent hurt anything torque those bolts to 35lbs
  17. the rod berings are to small and very weak replacing them whould be a very good idea i do a oil preshure check must be above 10 psi hot at idle or it gets berrings normal is 30-20 psi ten is absulute lowest and yes this moter is a problem moter
  18. mainshaft rear berring if noise gos away when clutch is pushed in [ berring is weak ]
  19. check grounds grounds grounds they like to ground trouhg the pump bushings and have a main ground on top righthand intake manifold have never seen a bad solinoid in over a 100 trans ever the electroinics are very good and rare to fail i see more broke wire harness had on was broke about an inch from conector on trans is a week point the wires are set in pairs and one wire was work hardened and just barly vissable break when car is not runinng key on you should hear the solinoids buzz when you push the gas peadal indacating there working dont know if thiss helps but be carfull could make a can of worms ps i do have a bunch of theese tranys apart here if you whant me to meshure a solinoid to see what the ohms should be

  21. reverse or 4wd light hook it up and c what light comes on think the oring is about 15 mm gess is a thin oring if the pump sticks dont force it can brake easy the pump never wheres out just leaks there is anuther oring inbetween the pump halfs could change to theese halfs have to be glued together when done with tiny bitt of grey sillacon
  22. i have the exact brat i put tbi on mine and toyata 4x4 truck 15 in rims the stock crome ones are the best the tbi fixed all the carb problems instantly and has been running problem free for years now the problem with your carb could be fixed or i have put the carb from a ea82 engine on theese older cars it takes some enginering have to move the holddown bolts but is bigger carb and works realy good i have one on a 77 1.6 ea71 works realy good could get some pics of it if you like boy i love my 81 gen one brat ea81 and high low best year ever 12 years of reliabilaty
  23. do so many 10/1.25 hili coils the parts guys cant keep them in stock part of my headgasket jobs i heli coil them all i have found that a tap on size bigger fits i use a 11/1.25 tap for 10/1.25 hili coil make shure you buy the kitt with meatal insert tool the plastic ones are crapy i end up hili coiling alot of head bolts to mostly 2.5 d s and ea 81 /ea82 they are 11/1.25 insert also put a bitt of antisize on the coil when you install will save greif sometimes there a bitt tight to put in
