Strange leaking from my 1980 Brat
ivans imports replied to O.C.D.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
they leak from where the oil pump joins the block has a paper gasket and a small orig yo can make the gasket from a paper gasket materal and a generic oring will do make shure you use a sealer on paper gasket tip if you lossen the front engine block bolts a bitt the pump comes out easier if need parts i have 8 of theese engines all good -

get this problem when i plane the blocks gets to close to the heads its only the 96-98 twin cam 2.5s that have potruding pistons i take the factory 2.5 headgasket apart to get indavidual shims to set head hight to compansate for planing carfull have bent rods from piston to close to head if its a 2.5 d core save some greif and put rod berrings in it before you start they were to small for app some they are always bad even low miles takes abit of work but will last way better

ground ground ground check them all there was probly one atached to the soiliniod you changed there is one on top right side of intake check them all sounds like your electroincs are trying to ground thorgh the shaft bushings or the forward clutch pack has to mutch clearance anting that very inconsistant is caused by electronics not being grounded proper

1/2 inch snapon inpact as tight as you can get theese nuts can not be overtightend by desigin the tighter the better
-
you need to know ratios yours should be 4.44 and have a screwon oil fillter on side if you take the # off the trany and give it to the dealer they can tell you the ratio thats the only differance ive seen some are 3.90 and 4.11 but you could change the rear diff to match but the electronics are all the same 99-03

otc axle puller you can buy it from tool supplier snapon or some one like that or take the whole knuckle off and put upside down in rim and drift it through with a dead blow hammer this only works good if the knuckle is off car you can put hub in the lug holes to hold it for you
-
the larger nut actually tightens up to the center hub and not to the axle which is tappered and eventually works loose and ruins the hub where the bearing sits

not just the heads the block to i do alot of reheadgaskting i fix all the other shops mess most have been orbital grinderd cokie cutter whatever you call the dam things out here the dealership uses those to do there head gaskets cause planing is not coverd under waranty so they do a crap job and a few months later i'm doing the heads agian 95 % of my head jobs are shop damage 5% is natural causes the last dealer head job was 16 bent valves two broke cam pullys suface the heads the owner only got 600000 kms out of it after spending 4000$ on head job gaskets where leaking the day it left dealer as they had rounded all the sealing edges off with grinder over 3 thow
