Heat riser must be in working order ea81s bad for crab iceing -
The buggy I had a 3800 stall converter made 1000$ hurt a bitt but what a kick in the pants made a massive difference. I also used the forward drum and clutchpack from a 98 outback trans in my 91 legacy trans this gives you two wide clutchs VS 3 thin clutchs giving it more surface area and holding power. Was deff worth it can hold the power now And my line preshure soil is held in the full line preshure position firming it up on the shifts

can't find the right exhaust manifold gasket
ivans imports replied to odie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
try getting one for 75-79 1.6 ea71 as it had no intermeadate exhaust air suction valve thingy in the way the gasket they give you is the one for that piece Have been up against this wall before dumbass parts books -
Never ever ever seen a cracked sleeve dosent happen heads don't crack [ Unless has been frozen ] I call bull on dealer they are just scared to take on the 2.5D happens lots this engine is a shop burner and very difficult to fix right. Run fast and far and find someone who has many Subaru headgaskets under there belt. For ex I have done over 100 headgaskets thiss year. and they keep coming On every single one customer was in headgasket denial Think I need a thermostat or rad { no you need headgaskets } over and over is always the last thing customer wants to hear but always the problem no point wasting money on anthing but. Anyway dealers are for servicing cars not fixing motors above there heads and abillitys.

EJ22 Swap to GL trannmisson question.
ivans imports replied to Suba_GL_87's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I run a 2.5 twin cam turbo in 79 wagom with 235-75 15s and 86 gl high low with stock 86 gl clutch no problems unless I'm dragracing it then clutch has hard time with the 6500rpm neutral drops -
change headgaskets as long as it runs ok And do a oil preshure check min 10 psi hot at idle The engines I see are all high kms 300000-400000kms Most headgaskets I do are at about 200000-300000kms

hair strait back ! I ruined two very pricy motors before I figured out that the con rod was snaping in the center put in Manly H beams and no more problems. I did notice a fair power diference with the colt cams VS stock ones exact engine setup one with cams one without. Mind you I had full dragrace cams built for my phase 2 2.51 turbo. Was about 20 % percent more power and snap than its stock cam clone
