The headgasket denial runs deep no one wants to blame them BUT ME lol but is always the headgasket most times is because the rad failed or was overheated on a coolant fill at some point in its life

6 broken awds in five speeds in one month sounds like got a bad trans unit the rear berrings go and tears the awd apart check for meatal in the oil or any tiny bitts. the ujionts are replacabble. pn 1-0430 neapco ujiont. Anyway of the 6 i dd 5 were 01-04 outbacks all bad awd seems more commen on outbacks as they are heavyer cars. Also i put 4.5 L of oil in them keeps the awd in oil all the time and makes trans less likly to fail. Have determined that they die from long downhills all the oil ends up in front of trans and backend runs dry overheating the awd unit untill it pops the snapring and eats itself

Headgaskets always the headgaskets were heads planed ? I a'm constantly redooing headgasket jobs that people/ shops did poorly or got wrong of the 20 ej2.5ds i did this year 15 had had heads done less than 50000kms previosly they are so picky on the surfaces is very hard to get a good seal. This is why i bought my own head surfacer so i can get the best surface posibble when doing heads. And 90 % have burns on lower fire ring surface more than 2 thow deep

Down hill yes start up mabee slightly for a few seconds but lots of oil and not stoping smoking rings. Ex get alot of damaged valve engines 3 or more bent valves even runing on 2-3 cly valves bent guides seals damged no smoke just pop pop pop out the ex yes a bad valve seal or guide / valve could cause oil burning but not alot just minor oil burning. When they sitt over night if rings are bad at all the oil slips past the lower part of oil ring and gets on top of piston so when you start in morning puff o smoke.
